This is a kind of gimmick, I guess. I personally think it counts more as creative, though, so I'm gonna post it.
Smeargle Leftovers or focus sash or binding band
Timid 252 spe 252 hp
-infestation
-will o wisp
-leech seed
-spore
Pretty simple and similar to a set I posted before. This king of stall can take out many threats in a couple if turns. Spore allows you time to set up the other moves except wow. Once they wake, use wow. And spam infestation. Surprisingly effective. Btw, the vivillon set I posted has worked surprisingly well In ubers.
Not to sound too harsh, but I feel this moveset is extremely flawed. For one, Sleep cause might still be around. Two, once you Spore something, the opponent is just going to switch to something else. Sure you could Spore again, but there's always something in a higher speed tier/with priority. Not only that, but having two status moves on the same set doesn't really work most of the time. Other Pokemon probably have better hopes of setting up a trap and stall set.

I was thinking of remedying Charizard-Y's speed problem with Agility so he can go sweeper instead of wallbreaker.

252 sp.atk/252 spd/4 hp
Timid
-Fire blast
-Solarbeam
-Air Slash/Focus Blast
-Agility

Any thoughts?

Well, I've been having tons of fun using my favorite Gen 4 mon while testing this set on Showdown. Dragonite is the only "reliable" user of Weakness Policy, but there's something unique I thought of for this set. I figured it was time to share it with everyone:

426.png

You just activated my trap card!
Drifblim @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Unburden
Nature: Timid, 0 Atk IV
EVs: 8 HP / 220 Def / 104 SpD / 176 Spe
- Baton Pass
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
- Calm Mind / Stockpile

Drifblim has always been a unique Pokemon, and it's the only Pokemon in the game that can pull this set off. Why? Because Drifblim has the perfect combination of Unburden and Baton Pass. Drifblim also has solid bulk, and its typing gives it many common weaknesses yet none of them are x4, so Drifblim can be relied on to survive even powerful super-effective moves with defensive investment. After taking a super-effective blow, Drifblim's Weakness Policy will double its attacking stats, while Unburden doubles its speed, giving it an effective Shell Smash boost! Then, simply Baton Pass out to the sweeper of your choice and let the mayhem commence!

The speed allows Drifblim to outspeed most defensive Pokemon, and it outspeeds everything up to Scarf Latios after Unburden's boost. Combined with the fact that my favorite balloon is immune to Extremespeed and Mach Punch, that means it's easily able to get the Baton Pass off.

Obviously, the set isn't reliable since you can't guarantee that Drifblim will take a super-effective move, and it despises SR. However, Drifblim can still spinblock very effectively for your team, and it easily baits a Rock Slide from the likes of Excadrill or Donphan. Drifblim also makes great use WoW to cripple physical Pokemon. If Drifblim gets a chance, it can also pass along a Calm Mind or Stockpile boost, pick whichever you want depending on your team's composition. Passing a stockpile boost makes your sweeper incredibly difficult to take down with priority!

That's actually a very nice idea.
But can unburden by baton passed? Forgive my ignorance, I've never actually used a pokemon with it.

Anyway, yeah, Kudos. I might considering using that.

Sadly Unburden's boost isn't passable (otherwise there would have been plenty more Baton Pass Drifblims last gen!) but it's still incredibly useful for getting your pass off successfully. A more offensive set can be used with Drifblim once the lower tiers get set up, because Weakness Policy + Unburden + STAB Acrobatics is a terrifying combination. Unfortunately in the incredibly powerful OU meta, Drifblim can't invest into Attack if it actually wants to survive super-effective attacks! Drifblim needs to focus on passing to a stronger sweeper (Mega Kangaskahn is my personal favorite) and it can also pass defense boosts as well. I've passed Megakahn +2/+1/+2/+1/+0 before, and it is incredible when it works!

Weakness Policy will never be a reliable strategy but Drifblim makes the most of it!

This is not a really a creative set, but an underrated one:

059.png

Arcanine @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpDef
Impish Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Extreme Speed
- Will-O-Wisp
- Morning Sun

Fire types not really known for their defenses aside from Heatran, but when you factor in the fact that Arcanine gets Intimidate, it's defenses are greater than that of max HP/Def Impish Hippowdon. Calcs for reference:

252+ Atk Life Orb Lucario Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Hippowdon: 160-188 (38.09 - 44.76%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
-1 252+ Atk Life Orb Lucario Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Arcanine: 138-164 (36.03 - 42.81%) -- 96.41% chance to 3HKO

There are a few things that really make this Arcanine more effective in this gen than gen 5.
1. Because of the Weather Nerf, Morning Sun is a much more reliable form of recovery.
2. Fire types now have an extra resistance to Fairy making this Arcanine as a excellent counter and check to Mega Mawile as it resists Play Rough and Iron Head, threatens to cripple with Will-o-wisp, or downright outright attack it with super effective STAB Flare Blitz.
3. With defog buff, hazards are a lot easier to remove so Fire types have a much easier time switching-in.
4. Will-O-Wisp now has a boosted accuracy from 75% to 85% and is a bit easier to rely on and a beautiful move against King's Shield Aegislash.
5. Talonflame's +1 Brave Bird and +1 Roost are difficult to handle, luckily this Arcanine has +2 Extreme Speed and enough bulk to survive a 3HKO from Sharp Beak Brave Bird with intimidate taken into account.

Calcs:
-1 252+ Atk Sharp Beak Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Arcanine: 105-124 (27.41 - 32.37%) -- possible 4HKO

Arcanine makes a really nice pivot pokemon as it resist's both of Scizor's STABS and doesn't really care if it has Swords Dance or Choice Band. It is one of the best counters and checks to Mega Mawile as mentioned. Intimidate is always a fantastic ability to have on a pivot pokemon like Arcanine and really helps ease the tension of offensive Juggernaughts like Mega Kangaskhan. Will-o-wisp is the icing on the cake as it can cripple any physical attacker both on the field or on the switch and then proceed to recover the lost HP with morning sun. It has utility in Will-o-wisp, recovery in Morning Sun, +2 Priority in Extreme Speed and a strong STAB in Flare Blitz.

EDIT: 248 HP EVs so it's not divisible by 4 or 8 for stealth rock/spikes. Thanks to McGrrr for pointing this out.

A Hawlucha set I thought of, probably wasn't the first and won't be the last, that's about the best I can think of to set him up to sweep, if being both the most situational, as well as requiring the most predictive ability and knowledge about what your opponent is running.

Hawlucha @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Unburden
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SpA)/Careful (+SpD, -SpA)
EVs: Impish: HP 252 / Def(Impish)/(Careful)SpD 252 / 4 Atk
-High Jump Kick
-Acrobatics
-Poison Jab
-X-Scissor/U-turn

Pretty much, the set focuses on making Hawlucha as bulky as he can get in HP and a defensive stat, and then either switches in manually, or an a Volt Switch/U-turn, into a predicted move that will hit for super-effective damage, but not OHKO. Then, Weakness Policy activates and is consumed, doubling the Atk and SpA stats, and Atk becomes 440, and then Unburden activates, doubling Hawlucha's Spd stat, which becomes 544. While this set can make Hawlucha a powerful sweeper, Aegislash resists his entire movepool and can wall him entirely, forcing a switch and rendering this set useless for it's intended purposes, make sure to kill those off before bringing him out to take a 2x Ice Shard or something.

Ive been having a bit of luck running

Snorlax@ Leftovers
thick fat
252 HP/ 252 Atk+
-rest
-talk
-earthquake
-crunch

he is my fire switch in for both skarmory and scizor.
i feel he works quite decently with skarmory.

Not a Pokemon, but a strategy:

Choice item + Sleep Talk (obviously without rest)

Most Choice item Pokemon have a filler slot, so why not consider Sleep Talk? Sleep inducers are super obvious, so you can switch in to absorb e.g. Breloom's Spore. Fast Choice users are preferable; so you get to attack before being put to sleep (and then switching out), and it's not the end of the world if you wake up when using Sleep Talk. Sleep Talk also serendipitously solves the problem of locking yourself in to one attack (it even avoids multi-turn Outrage!).

I've been using it on Noivern and Garchomp to great effect. It's also pretty funny. Smeargle leads are easy game.

OK, I don't believe this is a shitty gimmick, as it is really potent, although it is still sort of a gimmick.
637.png

Volcarona @ Coba Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 Spd / 180 SAtk / 76 HP
Modest Nature
- Bug Buzz
- Fiery Dance
- Hidden Power [Rock]
- Quiver Dance
Basically it lures Talonflame in and prevents it from ruining Volcarona's sweep. If you are to send in your Volcarona, the opponent will often switch into Talonflame to immediately KO it. You can use the free turn to Quiver Dance. You then take the Brave Bird from Talonflame and OHKO in return. You then have +1 speed and special attack, and can follow up to sweep. This set does need support to make sure Stealth Rocks aren't up, but then again almost every Volcarona does.
Sorry if this is a shitty gimmick, but using the OP's instruction it isn't:
What are some things that constitute a shitty gimmick?
  • Using a Pokemon that has no business being used in OU, for the sake of using it in OU.
  • Movesets that are inferior and ineffective compared to existing movesets, or use an obscure move for the sake of hitting an even more obscure check or counter.
  • Movesets that are utterly impractacle or are horribly outclassed by another Pokemon.
  • This is an OU thread. Don't post some Lugia set.

The only criteria that this might fall into is the second one, and I don't believe Talonflame is an obscure counter, as it was #3 in the (dodgy) usage stats and a very strong pokemon.

252 HP / 252+ Def Arcanine: 138-164 (35.93 - 42.7%) -- 94.34% chance to 3HKO

252 HP / 252+ Def Arcanine: 105-124 (27.34 - 32.29%) -- possible 4HKO

This is definitely very good, but a small improvement would be 248 HP EVs. It's true that 384 HP is a Leftovers threshold (also a Hail/Sandstream threshold!), but it's also divisible by 4 (Stealth Rock) and 8 (Spikes/poison). Therefore, the cost/benefit is pretty much a wash. However, 384 is inferior to 383 when you consider toxic:

384 HP v 383 HP

Turn 2: 48 v 46
Turn 3: 72 v 69
Turn 4: 96 v 92

Etc.

This has been used in tiers other than OU in Gen 5 actually. In RU, CB Entei would run Sleep Talk in the last slot to beat sleep inducers like Lilligant and Smeargle. I think Choice scarf Heracross and Terrakion used Sleep Talk to act as an effective Darkrai counter in Ubers (a lot of choiced mons ran Sleep talk during the sleep clause suspect test in Ubers really)

Sleep inducers aren't as common in OU, even in Gen 6, so I doubt it will see much use. And then there's the issue of being locked into sleep talk even after waking up.

Arcanine @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Extreme Speed
- Will-O-Wisp
- Morning Sun

Great set! I doubt many people would have thought of using Arcanine this way. Kind of reminds me of Bulky pivot Ponyta in LC.

I SWEAR I thought of almost the exact same moveset this weekend but didn't post it yet lol. My idea was virtually identical only using him as a lead with Mirror Coat over WoW. The benefit being common leads can try to through up hazards or Taunt, which Mirror Coat prevents. This gives you a lot more time to Stockpile and more likely to get a BP boost if they have to switch to something with Ice Beam or Thunderbolt.

A very good point. I'll edit the OP. Thanks.

I have independently been considering using Arcanine as a tank on my own team for the very reasons you mention. With Sun support you can also boost morning sun and negate one of Arcanine's weaknesses, so it fits nicely on a CharY team. Arcanine handles physical threats and special walls that counter Zard while still having flare blitz in the sun. I like this new age of defensive fire-types. Maybe Torkoal will have its chance to shine after all too.

Great set! I doubt many people would have thought of using Arcanine this way. Kind of reminds me of Bulky pivot Ponyta in LC.

Lots of people towards the end of gen 5 ran Latios choice specs with sleep talk, and quite a few ran choice specs tornadus with just hurricane, u-turn and sleep talk

I use this pokemon to counter rotom-w + genesect + talonflame core. And to taunt things. Substitute is great for scouting. It also punishes choiced dragon moves. It annoys many things with subseed. It's a good pokemon.

Whimsicott
Grass/Fairy
252 HP / 152 Def / 104 SpD
Bold
0 Atk IVs
Prankster

Leech Seed
Substitute
Taunt
Endeavor/Stun Spore

The EVs are variable. At this spread a minimally invested Rotom-W only breaks subs with hydro pump half the time. 23.14 - 27.16%. However many players choose to invest in rotoms offences, and you might be better served by just going full defensive bulk. You ought to use a teammate that would appreciate Whimsicott stalling out those 8 hydro pumps, and also helps out against Scizor (CB bullet punch ohkos), Talonflame, and can also handle the rare expert belt Genesect. Heatran is the perfect teammate.

Whimsicott's defences ensure that Genesect gets the SpA boost from download, instead of boosting his u-turn, making it more inclined to flamethrower or ice beam, which is the perfect switch in time for Heatran. If it did u-turn out of heatran and go to rotom-w, then switch back to whimsicott on the volt switch. If they go to genesect use sub, if they go to talonflame then switch to heatran. By now you should have plenty of information on your opponent. At some point you can give up on the switching war and go for an endeavor. Or you could make your own double switch.

Afterwards, pick a water type to complete a FWG core.

Rotom, Genesect, and Talonflame are some of the best pokemon in OU, and whimsicott can do alright against the 3 of them if it has the right teammate. But how does Whimsicott do against other threats out there? Garchomp is only dangerous with fire blast. Aegislash is stuffed unless it has a steel move (yay substitute). Excadrill's speed is neutralised and Whimsicott can go for a stun spore or a sub. Greninja is mind games but whimsicott does get forced out by the ice beam, which is very informative to you if you scout it with sub. Dragonite is not threatening, and it's nice that you take it down or neatralize it without activating a weakness policy. Megalucario, megamawile, azzurill, and megakhangaskan are dangerous.

Adding this pokemon on your team gives you the perfect switch in to many situations, and the fast priority sub or leech seed or taunt lets you play with the opponent. The best teammate is heatran. After that, good teammates to look at are water types, heal bellers, hazard layers, and defog or spinners.

OK, I don't believe this is a shitty gimmick, as it is really potent, although it is still sort of a gimmick.

Honestly I don't think this really even can be considered a gimmick. Yeah, Rock is probably the best type for beating things that aren't affected by Bug/Fire (except possibly Electric, which hits far fewer things 4x effectively and is pretty weak), so that makes sense and is a viable coverage option for him.

Actually, the REAL set I ran might be even more gimmicky, which was to replace Bug Buzz with Giga Drain to beat bulky Waters. (Quiver Dance/Flame Dance/Giga Drain/HP Rock) Gimmick or no, running moves that beat the Pokemon's usual counters are definitely viable.

Here is a Talonflame set that for some reason is looked down upon.
Talonflame Leftovers
Gale Wings
Naive Nature
252 Att./ 4 Spatk / 252 Spe
-Brave Bird (acrobatics if flying gem is possible)
-FIRE BLAST
-Roost
-Will o Wisp

This Talonflame isn't meant to sweep, but to help out my team. It has been working so well for my team but people are shunning it. Fire blast is their biggest issue. Fire blast may be weaker, it may be less accurate, but it does not come with that recoil damage flare blitz provides. It also doesn't get lowered by intimidate so he can at least deal a bit more damage against Lando-T on the switch in. Most pokemon flare blitz preys on (Forretress, Skarmory, Ferrothorn, Scizor, even avalugg) take the same if not more damage from fire blast without the recoil damage. Roost is for showing off your longevity, but can only be useful in conjunction with WoW, which is useful for spreading extra damage as well as help sweepers set up. I don't have any videos, but if you believe me, Fire Blast OHKOed a mega scizor twice, prevented talonflame from dying to ferrothorn, and even took out a rough skin+rocky helmet garchomp when they were both at around 10% health which stopped a tie from happening (the scizor and garchomp scenario happened in the same match). Im just saying, if you want a talonflame to survive, run this set, take advantage that he is that fastest WoW bar pranksters in the game. And it was the spreading of burns that allowed my team to be successful. nature and EVs can be changed though, that was what i was currently using.

Well something i've been playing around with

Clefable @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Unaware
252 HP/252 Def

Psych Up
Cosmic Power/Calm Mind
Stored Power
Moon Blast/Flamethrower

Not incredibly reliable but with the right team this set has been pretty interesting. Many people don't really consider clefable a threat so hey why not boost against it right?

But it has a very useful niche with the ability Unaware and the move Psych up. With proper support (Screens/Passes/Etc) and the right checks to things like Aegislash, You can turn the opponents set up sweeper into your own set up fodder, and since alot of the boosting moves you'll be running into in OU involve physical attacks anyway, you can opt to go physical come pokebank when fable has Access to Move tutor moves

Well something i've been playing around with

Clefable @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Unaware
252 HP/252 Def

Psych Up
Cosmic Power
Stored Power
Moon Blast/Flamethrower

Not incredibly reliable but with the right team this set has been pretty interesting. Many people don't really consider clefable a threat so hey why not boost against it right?

But it has a very useful niche with the ability Unaware and the move Psych up. With proper support (Screens/Passes/Etc) and the right checks to things like Aegislash, You can turn the opponents set up sweeper into your own set up fodder

I use a set like this myself in wi-fi, except I use Magic Guard as the ability and instead of relying on leftovers recovery I use Wish (Also helps team mates) otherwise Softboiled is a great option too. And for the item I use weakness policy, which works great with stored power, and boosts moonblast to OHKO most of the dark type switch ins.
