Hey i've been lurking this thread for a while since I love football. I'm Dutch though and no one cares about the Dutch league. Only thing I'm going to say about it is that this weekend my favorite club (Vitesse) took the lead position :)
Also, since I'm Dutch, I'm rooting for United (great goal by van Persie today), though Arsenal and Chelsea have a great squad this season as well. I'm rooting for Swansea as well cause of the Dutch players there, and they bought the Dutch league's top scorer from last season, Wilfried Bony, from Vitesse.

If there's any other Dutch footbal fans out here, feel free to contact me so we can talk about the (awesome) dutch league.

To others: What's your opinion about Dutch players in the Premier league? IMO, there's quite a few, including van Persie, Krul, Vorm, de Guzman, van Wolfswinkel, Stekelenburg, Fer, and a bunch of others.

I bet you can't say Dutch again.

Lol that GK.

well krul did play amazingly, but most of the time spurs probelm isnt the opposing keeper, its the fact they dont get good quality shots because they might as well be playing 10v11 with no striker

Arsenal was pretty impressive yesterday, given it was a loss, but it was still 'contained' in a manner of speaking. 1-0 is not a bad result, though no doubt they'll face ladder trouble with Liverpool down the line. But I must still say this, bringing on Bendtner when you're 1-0 down to Man Utd is like throwing a toaster in the bath whilst you're drowning. Thank God they got away with it.

VAN GINKEL

speaking of dutch does anyone remember poster Altaria? Used to be a huge ajax fan and he rated Suarez as the best striker in the world about 3-4 years ago. we all laughed

There was that Dutch invasion a couple of years back: Vorm, Krul, Van der Vaart, Van Persie finally back from injury and killing it, De Jong and all the rest. But now it's all about the Belgians!

Also Wenger has done an amazing job with Giroud, I mean anybody watching will know he is not a top player. How Wenger got Giroud to work in this system is unbelievable, but we need another striker in January or else it's gonna be a battle for 4th again cos he looks so tired right now. Also lol @ City, called that shit Sunderland OP!

Also I'm still sad about Wenger not buying Suarez, I got so excited for that over the summer... If only he stumped up the £55m or whatever it was. Possibly the only thing missing from Suarez's game in the last couple of years was really clinical finishing and when you look at RVP who became a machine under Wenger, you think about the possibilities... I know I probably said this before but I repeat myself sometimes.

I was one of his biggest critics before this season. I felt like he missed too many chances and he lost the ball too easily trying to do stupid shit when an easy option is on and thus always leaving us open on the counter attack. Honestly, I wondered whether we were better off without him because of that. Not to mention we had a better winning % without him. I put Aguero, Rooney and RVP ahead of him in the top EPL strikers list in this thread as well. Not sure about that right now.

He's missed the first 5 games but he's already the top scorer...

Jol's gonna get it probably. New owner always = new manager and players. Only thing stopping it is if Fulham win every game, and they haven't been doing that.

edit: Also Wenger just held a Q&A session on Twitter lol! Here's a little video http://www.arsenal.com/askarsene the most interesting question for us was probably what is Wilshere's best position and Wenger said deep lying midfielder. This is a huge contrast to what he was saying last year and for years that Wilshere's position is the no. 10 as a goal-scoring midfielder. That season when Wilshere played beside Song, Wenger said he was only playing there to learn the game and that he's gonna be moved up to Fabregas' position in time because he sees him as an attacking creative midfielder, now he's completely reversed! Unbelievable!

I always thought wilshire would strive in the role of box to box midfielder like Ramsey played against Tottenham. Anyway, Arsenal use a system where midfielders have to be able to play in every role, that is the presumption of Total Football, and people often forget this when trying to analyze arsenal players. Song was perfectly passable in attack as well as in defense, look at how Sagna has been hugely important in the attacking 3rd in the absence of traditional wingers (due in part to injuries). Just because Wenger says Wilshire is best in the deep lying midfield role doesn't mean wilshire isn't also an important attacking player.

I'm just a little sad cos I always saw Wilshere as a more tenacious Fabregas, he has amazing close control and vision, a more natural captain than Cesc, and I was looking forward to Wilshere growing into the no. 10 role. Even last season Wenger shifted Caz out wide to accommodate Wilshere at no. 10, it's such a dramatic change of tack from the manager!

Also another thing I am a little sad about, RIP Juan:

I don't care how many midfielders we have, it's less than Chelsea and I would take Mata any day of the week. I actually think he does more defensive work than Silva and Cazorla put together! Mourinho has lost his mind. If I was him I'd play Oscar in the Lampard role with a defensive player like Luiz or Mikel or some shit, and play Mata either out left or behind the striker.

1000x yes

What Chelsea needed was someone to move the ball quickly so i hope mata starts in the upcoming games. With oscar playing lampard's role.

On wilshere i think he will flourish in that deep midfield role. Like the pirlo's and schweinsteiger's of the world where they play that deep midfield role but are really playmakers, where they benefit from more time on the ball and with their passing ability able to distribute the ball all over the field. Also if wilshere was to play in that deeper midfield role flamini will become even more important to that midfield than he already is! Wilshere needs to make it his position this season.

Arsenal are also going for Benzema and Ba. They need a decent striker.

Italy vs Germany and Sweden vs Portugal are the pick of the international games for me.

Another funny thing: Brendan Rogers starts the season playing Coutinho on the left of midfield. Coutinho gets injured and he says coutinho's best position is behind Suarez and Studge and specifically sets up a 3-4-1-2 system to get the best of him, even playing Moses (fucking Mosed lol!) in there and asking him to sacrifice himself to fill in for the injured Coutinho as a central midfielder. So when Coutinho is back, Rogers starts the game with 3-4-1-2, and as soon as he brings his prized man on at half time he ditches his 3 man backline and switches to a 4-4-2. The next game he plays Coutinho in a 4-4-2... Wtf lol!

I was raging when he switched it during half time because cazorla scored a flukey goal.

I'm raging even more now that he's ditched it for good without giving the front 3 a chance. It makes so much sense to me since we have a lot of quality CBs in the form of Skrtel, Toure, Agger, Sakho, Kelly, maybe Ilori and two quality wing backs in Glen and Jose Enrique (who were unfortunately missing against Arsenal - really missed them). We also have possibly the worse wingers in the league. Just Moses with Sterling and some kid called Jordon Ibe. Makes no sense playing them or Henderson out wide. It just seems like a waste of space to me.

The important thing is that we're getting some good results but in the long term, I just see the 3-5-2 as a formation that suits our squad and key players. Brendan needs to choose one formation and stick with it so that the players get used to playing that system. If he keeps changing it around, I don't see it ending well

Concerning Wilshere's best position, I think his best is deep lying playmaker purely for his ability to glide past players. He can put himself in good positions to receive the ball from the CBs and transition from defence to attack. His strengths would be best exploited in this deep midfield position, not in attacking midfield where his final ball is sometimes found wanting. Not sure you'd even play him there when you have the best player in the world in that position in Ozil as well as quality AMs like Cazorla and Ramsey, hell even Rosicky is good there.

i think brendan rodgers likes the extra security henderson offers in the center of the park. gerrard and lucas don't really have the legs anymore and can often get overwhelmed. there is a massive focus on the midfielders requiring a lot of stamina, however there's even more emphasis on the wing backs. and when you are playing flanagan and cissohko (lol maybe the worst fullback pairing in the league), you're not gonna get much out of the system. plus there was no need for three cbs vs fulham especially when their striker likes to drop deep to receive the ball

i'd expect rodgers to try a 3-4-1-2 again when enrique returns, since he offers a lot going forward and i can see him using it against city's two striker system.

do u drop hendo though??

Is it too early to start to say that henderson should takeover gerards role in the team? I mean he doesn't have the same quality that Gerard possess but Gerard isn't getting any younger and rodger seems to fancy Henderson.

Play with Henderson and Lucas in the middle with Coutinho in front of them. Along with the two wingbacks.

...or go into the market in January for some needed quality in depth.

it sounded like henderson did a good job subbing in for lucas when he was out. its unlikely there's a better pairing than gerrard and lucas and there's no way rodgers will drop gerrard anyway. wasn't last week the first time rodgers actually subbed off gerrard?
