Sticky X/Y Sprite Project

I kiiiiinnda edited the eye of the aegislash
aegislash_zps58efe88a.png

Alright, since I have minor issues with both of the two more recent sprites posted, I may as well share them.

TeraVolt, Chesnaught's left leg on the backsprite should not be that high up. I know it was based on a screenshot, but that screenshot was like taken from a much higher perspective than normal. While other parts like the arm are still fine, that left leg really needs to be moved.

RedRooster, Diggersby's left ear-arm on the backsprite has the completely wrong perspective. Since it was traced over the flipped frontsprite, the hand is lower down and bigger as if it's closer up. However it should be the opposite: higher up and smaller, due to being farther away. It may help to reduce the perspective a bit on the frontsprite as well, since it does seem a bit on the extreme side.

Hopefully those fixes won't be too much trouble. Other than that, I like the sprites a lot.

Also, I don't like the new eye for Aegislash. I originally had something similar when doing the QC, but scrapped it because it was disproportionately large. The smaller version may not be as well shaped, but whatever, getting it perfect is impossible at this scale.

Stolen Steel, I appreciate what you're doing, but I'd hang on for shinies until each sprite is confirmed as being 'ready' - you're only going to make more work for yourself if updates are made to the original sprite. (for instance, Dedenne needs work imo)

You're right, although I think that the current Dedenne sprites are fine as placeholders, and I'd rather take care of some other things first.

Saw something with clawitzer.

Looking at the sprite, you can see that compared to its claw, clawitzer is still significantly smaller,
but compared to an in-game screenshot its body is huge compared to its claw.

I myself have really no experience editing images so if anyone could take the time to resize it it should
look more accurate.

We did change to axl's recently, smogon just hasn't gotten that change yet (I prioritize PS sprites first, because I can only upload 20 at a time on smogon atm)

Fixed the Chesnaught images a bit

Fixed the left back sprite leg like Legitimate said, made the browns and fixed the chest plate part to match the artwork more.

Ok so that solves that problem, but doesn't that sprite need some resizing?
methinks clawitzer is smaller than Chesnaught up there...

Ok so compared to Chesnaught it looks fine.

But when compared to our friend Xerneas, who is 5 feet 7 inches taller than clawitzer, the sprite is too big seeing that they are about the same size spritewize, and if not clawitzer is larger.

just want to chime in that pokemon game sprites (and even the 3d models, for that matter) are scaled as such for attention to detail and various visual emphases

compare roselia's sprite (1'00", 0.3m) to wailmer (6'07", 2.0m)... despite the massive size difference, they are very close in sprite size

some pokemon are even given incorrect proportion to each other; unfezant (3'11", 1.2m) has a larger sprite than xatu (4'11", 1.5m) for one example of about a million

long story short: clawitzer is probably fine, haha

Hmmm. So does that mean we aren't going to use my Shiny sprites? Cause for now atleast giving people the option to use them is nice xD even if the original sprites aren't perfect. I would really like to have atleast had some amount of time where I know someone is using a sprite I helped with :p Because I enjoyed doing them and would like to continue even if they eventually need to be updated.

Come on, man. Any sprite. Not just yours would not be Implemented until Layell sends in the updates, and its generally agreed that shinies are less important then good animations or QC work.

I don't understand what your trying to say. I'm not complaining that "Why weren't implemented overnight #%&^%!!!" I completely understand how that works. I'm asking if they are atleast good enough for the time being to be implemented as placeholder shiny sprites along with the placeholder sprites for those Pokemon until the original sprites have been improved.

There really is no such thing as a placeholder shiny. It's either the right recoloration, or not used. Plus, if you are recolor img sprites which are not ready, they will not be used. If you check the spreadsheet, you can tell which are and which aren't.

Well can I get some constructive criticism?
Theres nothing really wrong with your shiny coloring. Its just the sprite itself that not ready. If something gets changed on the sprite, you would end up having to recolor it again. see what I mean?

Anyway, finished up mewtwo Y's front sprite. Still prob have to tweak the "tail" a bit but think it looks great!

Animating in parts really does make things easier! This whole time I was doing it the hard way but the more you know!

Gotta agree with Zrack, I tend to follow the law of relative sprite sizes where they ought to be of similar size to mons of the same height.

I've mentioned before my stance on shinies and it is reflected in rule 11 in the first post, but it's not worth my time to keep updating shinies in addition to regular versions for every small update. It's also not worth the time of the QC people to recolour each time they need to make a small sprite change. It's mostly a practical thing.

Nice stuff ito but the tail really warps, take a look at regular Mewtwo's tail and how a few others move.

Moving on from the size,

What is most noticeable to me is that when the end of the head tail thing on Mega Mewtwo Y raises, the middle part of the head-tail thins.

Otherwise it looks great!

Aww, that's a pity, as I was working on a new sprite for mega mewtwo Y. Something about the current sprite just seemed... off

TeraVolt nice sprites. Think the eyes should be fixed on both though. Other than that it looks good.

Anyway, fixed mewtwo Y's front sprite and made its back animation too! (sorry siiilver. saw it was animation ready so went ahead and animated it. Didnt know you was still working on it >.<)

If theres something off just let me know. Gonna start on its rare animation at the mean time.

I reckon on the back sprite, the left leg is too low and it comes behind the body at a weird angle. If you made it a but higher to match the front sprite and maybe not make it come back so far because also on the front sprite it comes back a tiny, tiny bit to far for me but other than that the body is fine - I especially like the arms :). But I think the other thing wrong with the sprite is the way the tail moves. Rather than animating it so it rigidly moves back and forth, I think it should flow like... A Mexican wave is the only thing I could think of. At the moment, you can clearly see the parts used to make the animation but it shouldn't look like this. I suggest making the join in the middle of the tail not so angular and smoothing it out when it bends. Also the bottom of the tail is implement straight for the nearly the whole thing so I suggest splitting that up into more parts to get smoother animations.

Hope I helped and am looking forward to your next sprite :D
