Sticky X/Y Sprite Project

Quoted it cuz it was too big. Anyways, Legitimate Username , here, you can see the legs of the megavoir. You can take that as a reference

Figured I'd drop in to state what I'm currently working on, as I decided to deviate from my original schedule. I'm currently doing QC work on Legitimate Username 's Mega Scizor sprite. I noticed an issue with the original's claws, which are currently displayed as more of a saw-like object, and from there I've been doing color corrections and touchups on parts/proportions as needed. I'll probably have a finished front by sometime later tonight, so yeah.

vaderdarkside There are a couple of issues I have with the animation as of now, coming from someone who knows literally nothing of how to animate. Currently, it seems that the animation is aliased in its subsequent frames, or at the very least suffers from some sort of image de-rezzing. This would need to be fixed in order to have the animation move onwards. In addition, the movements are kindof jerky and extreme, especially when compared to how Mega Banette moves in-game. If you were to improve the animation, I'd recommend looking at its in-game animation for inspiration on how it stands around, as it's pretty characterful. Lastly, the right spike on the legs/dress area is cut short, as it was being blocked by the hand originally. This would need to be extended so as to not be cut short in order to make the animation consistent with M-Banette's design. Just my two cents.

While pondering how to make the dress lighter, I ran into some colour errors that I've fixed. In addition to fixing the minor stuff, I also made the shiny dress a lot better. You're welcome princessofmusic (and congrats as well)!

Since it seems like Sylveon is done, I guess I'll work on that animation while I redo Mega Mawile, since redoing stuff can be frustrating and I don't want to be my only thing to work on. I'll soon have Gardevoir's animation recoloured as well.

Ok I'll do this all in one post.

Oh I'm sorry pom D: I just picked those 2 since I thought I could do them while Im on this road trip but good thing I got a chance to see this before getting far in boo boo keys. But for binky I did make a front sprite animation but I'll just hold on to it (or pm it to you if you want) so you can make it yourself.
MegaMewtwoshiny_zps85da44ad.png
Ok mega mew X and Y are now fully complete and now i want to try to make the animated sprite sheet shiny as well if the mega mew's have animations yet. :v4:
Hold on! I already made an animation for mewtwo Y. Just never made the rare animation yet since I was having trouble with it (although I do inted to getting back to it eventually). Btw, I think layell posted a program that makes recoloring easier if you want to make it easier for yourself.

Not sure if I should be flattered or offended :U (thank you :) )

Anyway...gave the colours for Mega Charizard X a go.

View attachment 5719

Having looked at the spreadsheet, I personally think both X and Y variants of Mega Charizard need new backs - given how much we've been crying for backsprites to fit the front ones, neither fit (seeing as how one appears to be a recolour of the other).

You have no idea how much I've been wanting charizard X to edited by someone! Been wanting to animate that guy for some time now :D Can someone take a look at mega amphy and heliolisk too?

Guess I'll do mega venusaur and gourgeist (<--- does the sizes for it matter?) then. sure Im packing a lot on my list but I gots time to kill haha

All right important announcement

With receiving the artist badge princessofmusic now holds the animation veto alongside myself, what this means is that before any sprite is animated the two of us must sign off on it. If you've been following the thread for a while you might notice the two of us have high standards but some differing opinions on what needs to be improved. So when we are both happy with a sprite the possibility of anything wrong with it is close to zero.

I've kept any that Wyverii said yes to on the chart, but it's up to princessofmusic now on when to sign off the rest of them. I have also updated a number of my own approvals. Hopefully with our mass improvements we can get around to many more sprites ready to be animated in the near future, and allowing the shiny colouring team to get cracking on more stuff.

Part of this deal was the signing of a blood contract to bind her to the project, instead I got this:

oh well.

Layell and I have very different leadership styles, and that's fine. As a leader, it's important for me to understand my colleagues. If I were in charge of a project like this from the beginning, I would've tried to do some icebreakers at the start - something to encourage community spirit! Needless to say, it's too late for that, but I've done my best, and I've designed a quick questionnaire that everyone should fill out and post to this thread - whoever's been involved in the project. The questions do not ask for real-life information, and most relate to Smogon and/or Pokémon. There are ten questions; seven are "mandatory" and should take you ten minutes to fill in at most. There are three optional questions. I can't wait to read your responses!

Name: ____________ (write it or I'll take off marks like in elementary school)

1. How did you choose your Smogon username?

2. What is your favourite colour? (you may pick more than one, limit 3)

3. Approximately how long have you been spriting?

4. Why did you join the sprite project? (write as little as one sentence, or as much as a paragraph)

5. a) What are your favourite Pokemon? Pick three.
1.
2.
3.

5. b) What is your favourite gen. 6 Pokemon?

6. If you were a Pokemon, what would you be, and why?

7. Describe your competitive Pokemon experience, e.g., favourite tier(s).

OPTIONAL QUESTIONS:

8. Cool/random facts about yourself? What do you like to do outside of art/spriting?

9. Which sprites have been your favourite to work on?/Which do you think turned out the best?

10. Any shout-outs to your fellow spriters?

1. How did you choose your Smogon username?
- It's a reference to the song "Angel of Music" from ALW's The Phantom of the Opera
- This was my Minecraft username before it was my Showdown/Smogon username
- I have perfect pitch

2. What is your favourite colour? (you may pick more than one, limit 3)
Pink, but I also like white and red.

3. Approximately how long have you been spriting?
Almost six years on and off or one year collectively.

4. Why did you join the sprite project? (write as little as one sentence, or as much as a paragraph)
General answer: For the good of Showdown.
Specific answer: Because I didn't like Wyv's Talonflame.

5. a) What are your favourite Pokemon? Pick three.
1. Larvesta
2. Altaria
3. Lapras

5. b) What is your favourite gen. 6 Pokemon?
It's a tie between Talonflame and Binky.

6. If you were a Pokemon, what would you be, and why?
Altaria

7. Describe your competitive Pokemon experience, e.g., favourite tier(s).
I'm an intermediate LC player. I want to try other tiers, but I only started using Showdown in September, and after that, the sprite project ate all of my plans.

OPTIONAL QUESTIONS:

8. Cool/random facts about yourself? What do you like to do outside of art/spriting?
I've beaten Metroid: Zero Mission 13 times. My best time is 1:12:24.

I'm fluent in French (or I was, I haven't practiced in super long).

9. Which sprites have been your favourite to work on?/Which do you think turned out the best?
At this point, I'm so tired that I'm like "everything was hard and it sucked". I think that Talonflame has been my best QC. I don't know what to think about my originals.

10. Any shout-outs to your fellow spriters?
There are so many wonderful things I could say to each of you individually, but I'm tired of typing and pressed for time, so I'll just say: I love you and thank you for everything.

List of people whom I expect to fill this out, but others can do it too:
Layell (yeah, you too)
Quanyails
Legitimate Username
aXl
ito
viperdk1
S0L1D G0LD
Siiilver
(lol, we have a Gold and a Silver in the sprite project)

EDIT: DO NOT PM ME WITH YOUR RESPONSES. POST THEM TO THE THREAD. (in hide tags to prevent clutter) I prefer a non-flooded inbox, and your fellow spriters should know about you, too!

The long semester has finally come to an end and I can now resume spriting at a painfully slow pace again :)

mampharos-3.png

I whipped up a new back sprite for mega ampharos. It'll need a few touch-ups but it's almost ready for use. I don't necessarily consider the previous back sprite unsatisfactory, but it didn't match my front sprite and I was planning on finishing this anyway.

All right to that edit. I've been editing stuff on the spreadsheet, to put it simply. Just a few comments first about recent observations in this thread before responding to the questionnaire:

I've been seeing a dearth in posting comparisons of user-created sprites with in-game sprites--I last recall pom posting comparisons of Gen. VI pokemon and some comparisons of Mega-evolutions to their original sprites, yet other people forge on ahead. Comparisons, whether that be for size, shading, style, or animation, is all but necessary for Gen. VI sprites to integrate into PS!. I notice little issues when I spectate various metagames that have in-game sprites alongside our custom sprites, and I literally take note of those. Layell's notes and my notes (and anyone else's notes, if he's/she's got criticism) are on one of the other tabs on the spreadsheet, in case anyone wants to work on those.

One small thing I noticed is that PS! sprites's dimensions are cropped to the size of the sprite/animation, yet Gen. VI sprites use 96x96 for the static sprites. This subsequently results in Delphox being five pixel lowers than the other pokemon on the before-battle screen. When people get to animating sprites, just make sure to crop the GIF to its boundary.

One other bother I've had as a pixel artist is other spriters' literal definitions of using pixels. Just because we're making sprites does not mean pixels must be evident in outlines absolutely everywhere (I emphasize the word 'absolutely'). On the other hand, we don't want jagged sprites that look like scaled-down regular digital art. A smudge of anti-aliasing on the outlines is very useful for keeping them look smooth, and pixel accuracy does not amount to regular-size accuracy: if you take a look at how computer programs render pixelized circles, you see that they look more jagged than ones made by hand, yet they are mathematically more accurate. Likewise, a sprite must appeal to a viewer when viewed from 100% despite techniques that appear accurate at 800%. I use the thumbnail feature and Ctrl + F probably more than my zoomed view on MS Paint, and that should be what other spriters are doing to check that a sprite looks fine at standard size as well. (I hope you're all doing that or its parallel in other programs as frequently as I am!)

N-Kin, nice work with those back sprites! I'd want to use the Froakie, Sylveon (D:) and Pancham, and I would say Greninja as well, but it's a tad too large for my tastes. Could the size of that be reduced? I'd say both Mega Charizards need some revamping (X moreso), if you'd like to work on those. Edit: Animated backsprites for your Pancham, Froakie, and Fennekin would be helpful, too! I love Froakie's rare animation in particular.

Say, The Artist Of Today, what program are you using for your recolors/animations? If you hop on synIRC and head to #xysprites, I may be there to help you. :)

Onto the questionnaire!
Name: Quanyails (but it's relatively easy to find my real name)

1. How did you choose your Smogon username?
This username has been my internet moniker since I joined the internet. It's meant to be a fantasy-esque name that flows yet eschews traditional naming conventions partially. I've subsequently made the name a backronym for the character seen in my avatar and on my dA page; I had a Ninetales character (it being my favorite pokemon), created this username, then changed my Ninetales to be more 'specialized' toward that username.

2. What is your favourite colour? (you may pick more than one, limit 3)
Orange. Purple is a close second. No, I won't go into specific names/RGB values of them.

3. Approximately how long have you been spriting?
I'd assume 2005, but those sprites from way back then are lost on a fossil of a computer. My earliest sprites that are on the internet currently are from 2007.

4. Why did you join the sprite project? (write as little as one sentence, or as much as a paragraph)
I'm a spriter, and I prepared for it slightly in anticipation for it, seeing as there wasn't a big movement for PS! to go 3-D.

5. a) What are your favourite Pokemon? Pick three.
1. Ninetales
2. Espeon
3. Absol (although Braixen is challenging that position)

5. b) What is your favourite gen. 6 Pokemon?
Braixen. <3 I like a lot of stuff from Gen. VI. Noibat, Sliggoo, Dedenne, Skiddo, and Pumpkaboo, going from my memory.

6. If you were a Pokemon, what would you be, and why?
This is a bit of a boring answer, but Ninetales would be nice for the telepathy, Psychic- and Fire-type powers, cursing others, and living for 1000 years. I could say one of the space-time legendaries if I wanted power/ease of life, but I find less appeal in that. :U

7. Describe your competitive Pokemon experience, e.g., favourite tier(s).
I'm involved in the CAP process, which is where I post probably 70% of the time (I just checked: currently, it's 83.63%). I play on the consoles competitively as best as my game allows me to, participating in the occasional real-life (non-VGC) tournament. I spectate frequently on PS!, both for the gameplay and to see how Gen. VI sprites look on there. I play on PS! very infrequently.

OPTIONAL QUESTIONS:

8. Cool/random facts about yourself? What do you like to do outside of art/spriting?
Mathematics, going on TV Tropes, playing various indie games (currently awaiting Terraria's Christmas update).

9. Which sprites have been your favourite to work on?/Which do you think turned out the best?
If we're limiting sprites to just this project: Well, out of the ones I have left (since I've opted for haste, not initial quality), Swirlix's revamp came out quite nice. Mega Abomasnow's back is also shiny, although I have to give credit to Layell. It's also always a pleasure to QC a work and get it look just right (and then subsequent QCers alter my foolish perceptions).

10. Any shout-outs to your fellow spriters?
eclep, N-Kin, Wyverii, paintseagull, Arkeis, Legitimate_Username, sleet, viperdk1, CoolStoryBrobat, and princessofmusic, of course. Layell's a nice guy, although I don't give him a shout-out as a spriter foremost--moreso as a project leader.

Mega Scizor QC can wait, this is more important.

Name: aXl/Falgaia/jadeVelocity (write it or I'll take off marks like in elementary school)

1. How did you choose your Smogon username?

- I’m a huge Megaman fan, and during the registration process for Smogon some 4-5 odd years ago I had been freaking out over Axl, as he only appeared in the two Megaman X games I had no access to being born and raised on pure Nintendo. He was also my favorite character out of the Command Mission cast, and the transforming aspect felt awesome to say the least. aXl is a combination between his name and Megaman X.
- Falgaia/Falgaea/Falgæa are all based off of a combination of the Falcon and Gaea armors from the Megaman X games, and I use these names for most of my gaming needs.
- jadeVelocity is pulled from the song “Word Disassociation” by Lemon Demon, and I have grown to using it as a third alias as of late on sites such as Serebii.

2. What is your favourite colour? (you may pick more than one, limit 3)

Red, specifically Crimson. I’m also a big fan of that one orange color you see on cars every now and then, you know the one, all shiny and near bronze tone. Third would probably be a darker shade of Cyan/Turquoise.

3. Approximately how long have you been spriting?

Approximately five years. I began spriting not long after joining Smogon during Spring Break while I was in middle school. It quickly became a hobby of mine that I engaged in while waiting to be picked up at school. I had a brief two-year stint where I practiced other mediums, before I decided to turn to my roots over the summer. Spriting was the first art form I came to know, barring painting miniatures.

Also, whoever runs the Cave of Dragonflies webpage is directly responsible for me learning how to sprite, as I'd still have no idea how to had their guide not told me to use MS Paint.

4. Why did you join the sprite project?

Honestly I joined the Sprite project because it gave me inspiration to do some work, something I desperately lack. I first caught word of it on Facebook through Smogon’s page, and realized that I needed to contribute since I had skills that could prove useful and I had lost the drive to go through with weekly spriting competitions. Additionally, the heavens opened up and I managed to have access to a paint program on my school computer, something I haven’t had access to for nearly 3 years. This gave me the time I needed to actively pursue spriting, as my previous schedule only gave me access to paint programs on the weekends or for a measly hour on weekdays.

5. a) What are your favourite Pokemon? Pick three.

1. Gallade (Like seriously tho)
2. Gallade Virizion
3. Gallade Clefable (Gen IV Gravity Team FTW)

5. b) What is your favourite gen. 6 Pokemon?

-Clawitzer

6. If you were a Pokemon, what would you be, and why?

-Answered this question before, and I felt that Shaymin was a fairly good representation of me as a person. Really weird little creature with a lot of potential, although I’m too shy and reserved to use it half of the time.

7. Describe your competitive Pokemon experience, e.g., favourite tier(s).

I first got started way back when Shoddy Battle was a thing in Gen IV, which is probably why I like so many Gen IV pokemon even though Diamond and Pearl are my least favorite Pokemon games. I tend to stick to OU/UU tiers and enjoy breaking the meta with weird tactics like Gravity and Singles Trick Room teams. I recently got into Pokemon Showdown after a several-year hiatus, again because it was a program I could actually access from school. I love being able to use pokemon and tactics that no one else uses, and to this day I still think Gallade is viable in OU.

OPTIONAL QUESTIONS:

8. Cool/random facts about yourself? What do you like to do outside of art/spriting?

-I’m a huge fan of music. I tend to buy music by the album, and was known for buying an album a week off of iTunes for a solid year. Some of my favorite artists include Faded Paper Figures, Goldfish, Dresses, Morning Teleportation, and Coheed and Cambria, just to demonstrate a few of my varied interests. Artist names link to some of my favorite tracks from each.
-I used to be addicted to Orbit White chewing gum, but ever since I got my braces, my addiction moved over to Icebreakers Frost, also known as the crack cocaine of the Wal-Mart mints shelves. (spearmint in both cases)
-I’m a huge Mega man fan, and have at the very least played all Mega Man games that have come to Nintendo consoles barring Legends. Although I’m not much for speed-runs, I have beaten Megaman 9 in under one hour. Me and my brother tend to tag-team the games, swapping the controller with every in-game death.
-I’m also a big fan of RPGs, and currently have SMT4 and Fire Emblem Awakening on backlog.
-I’ve played League of Legends profusely for the past two years. My favorite character is Anivia.
-Similarly, phoenixes are my favorite mythical animal.
-I also ran two RP Tumblrs for different characters from League of Legends over the past year.
-I’ve played numerous pen-and-paper RPGs in my short time, although I have never played Dungeons and Dragons, the one that started it all.
-I also have a history of playing tabletop games such as Warmachine and (soon to be) Warhammer Fantasy. Essentially hyper-tactical boardgames that make Chess look like Tic-Tac-Toe that utilize different factions of miniatures typically averaging 1-2 inches tall arranged in various armies. Painting these miniatures was technically my first real exposure to art.
-On a similar note, I have placed in national-level events for the game Monsterpocalypse, a game similar to Heroclix in that it is a collectable miniatures game, but varies in that it is essentially a board game of Pacific Rim-style giant monster fights. National level meaning all 20 people who play the game. I still curse Privateer Press for abandoning the game.

-I switched schools going into high school, and it was the best decision of my life.

9. Which sprites have been your favourite to work on?/Which do you think turned out the best?
Noivern. Even though that thing took some serious hours, it paid off and gave me new found respect for wyverns.

10. Any shout-outs to your fellow spriters?

princessofmusic for coming up with this brilliant idea and giving me excellent QC consistently. Also, congrats of the Artist Badge! You deserve it!
viperdk1, for giving me color correction QC!
Layell, for hosting this project and generally being a cool dude.
Siiilver, for being awesome and having a number of I’s in your name that I always forget.
Legitimate Username, for never ceasing to amaze me with your animation skills.
Quanyails, because I never replied to your PM and now I feel horrible because i never had the spare time to do it and I’m too socially awkward to get over myself and shoot you a reply. Sorry about that. I have been taking your comments to heart though, and I apologize if I come off as being rude.
To everyone new that’s been joining in, because you’re all as awesome as any of us and I hope your art brings you places. +)
To everyone here in general for being friendly enough to put up with my overly-paranoid self and taking the time out of your day to give me helpful advice. I’m keeping any and all comments in mind, and if I ever sound like I’m trying to bash your opinions, I’m usually just trying to explain my reasoning and failing miserably. I suck at communication.

And to you, the awesome person who actually read this far. You’re awesome, and just redeemed the past hour of me typing into Google Docs. +)

Might I point out you didn't write your own name on yours princess... ;)

Never did like questionnaires...-sees he's expected to do it- oh alright then. xD

Name: Dean

1. How did you choose your Smogon username?
I'm sure I've had this username (and variants) for a good few years...not sure whether it was around 2003 when I first graced the interwebs as a teen or around 2007 when I first joined Xbox Live (either way, I feel old xD). Either way, if I recall correctly I was quite car mad at the time - of which my preferred car of choice was a Dodge Viper (rather than the Ford Fiesta I currently drive lol). DK is simply my initials - though at first it was simply viperk1. The 1 is there for fun (either that or my liking for Formula 1, never quite sure.). Probably because viperk on it's own looked weird.

2. What is your favourite colour? (you may pick more than one, limit 3)
Blue.

3. Approximately how long have you been spriting?
September 2012. Probably had done the odd recolour before then but that was when I first really started, having decided (as a new mod) I wanted to do sprites for the player characters everyone had come up with on Alternia (Shameless Plug further down xD). Surprised myself how far I've come in such a short space of time really:
Sept 2012
HkmubHL.png
UdESxrm.png
6ZLprjt.png

Nov/Dec 2013
D2ISdgd.png
KeACq0T.png
gbJQ166.png

(No, not showing off before you say anything)

4. Why did you join the sprite project?
The whole reason I joined the project (and smogon in general really) was because the Pokémon RPG site I was on required sprites for Generation 6. (Shameless plug: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Alternia/index/ ). After asking Layell's permission for usage, I had a look at the sprites and thought...I want to help with this. After all, what's the point in just leeching off the work of others when you can just as easily help and support it? I'll admit it was a shaky start but hell, it's been worth it :)

5. a) What are your favourite Pokemon? Pick three.
1. Luxray (Badass electric lion - what's not to love?)
2. Cyndaquil (Was my favourite back in the days of Gold and Silver, cute little guy - when PokéBank comes out I am requesting for one of these little guys ASAP.)
3. Pikachu. Just cos.

(You could probably guess my favourite type from this list too xD)

5. b) What is your favourite gen. 6 Pokemon?
Greninja has grown on me (hated the design at first) - but given I spent my entire X adventure with this little cutie, it has to be Fennekin.

6. If you were a Pokemon, what would you be, and why?
Uh....Luxray. For the same reasons why I like it xD

7. Describe your competitive Pokemon experience, e.g., favourite tier(s).
Honestly? None. Had never experienced the competitive side of Pokémon.

8. Cool/random facts about yourself? What do you like to do outside of art/spriting?
All my facts are random, lol.
- Finished university with a First Class BA (Hons) in Accountancy and Finance.
- Massive football fan (support the mighty Blue and White, Huddersfield Town).
- Admin (as of about a week ago) of Alternia Pokémon RPG.
- So many RPGs...the Tales series are big hits, as is Final Fantasy (not the MMOs though, never).
- Love music, singing in particular. Never had any singing lessons of sorts, but I'd like to think I'm alright at it (example here - sung this morning just for you guys xD http://www.4shared.com/mp3/IcwlFb3y/Mad_World.html )

9. Which sprites have been your favourite to work on?/Which do you think turned out the best?
For personal reasons, Vivillion (such fun trying to do all those patterns...). In terms of the actual project, would say Doublade or Klefki - probably because they're the only ones that weren't recolourings on my part...D:

10. Any shout-outs to your fellow spriters?
Layell - massive thanks for putting this whole together (and on a selfish note, thanks for letting Alternia use the sprites)
princessofmusic - congratulations on the Artist badge! Also, really appreciate the support you've given me in the month or so I've been here. :)
aXl - don't you dare give up on spriting. Ever. Seriously dude, you are awesome at spriting and don't let anyone say otherwise.
Quanyails - stop beating me up on Pokémon X and Y. In seriousness, another great spriter - keep it going :)
To everyone else - keep at it. Don't be too obnoxious and just enjoy the time here. Whilst it's serious business to do these sprites, have a little fun too. :)

Name: Brad. Call me Silver though. (I prefer Silver over Siiilver tbh, but if there is already a Silver, go with Siiilver. Or SilverTactic)

1. How did you choose your Smogon username?
I have 2 PS names. SilverTactic and Siiilver. I chose Siiilver as my name on the forum as I liked it better.

2. What is your favourite colour? (you may pick more than one, limit 3)
Blue, Green, Red

3. Approximately how long have you been spriting?
Since this October.

4. Why did you join the sprite project? (write as little as one sentence, or as much as a paragraph)
I love art. I don't care what kind of art, I just like doing it. I wanted to try spriting one fine day and see how the experience is.... (you can guess the answer)
Anyways, I wanted to try and contribute to showdown, when I heard that they were gonna do spriting business. I wanted to do the best I could.

5. a) What are your favourite Pokemon? Pick three.
I like all these pokemon the same. No best, no worst (btw I like a lot more, just mentioning few for now)
1. Latios
2. Snorlax
3. Togekiss

5. b) What is your favourite gen. 6 Pokemon?
Coolness wise, Aegislash, Cuteness wise, Skiddo

6. If you were a Pokemon, what would you be, and why?
I...really haven't decided yet. I will edit this post and let you guys know soon! =)

7. Describe your competitive Pokemon experience, e.g., favourite tier(s).
I joined PS this April. I really liked it, as I was a battle fanatic. My fav tiers are OU Monotype, and OU. And uhh, if this includes Showdown's unofficial leagues, I had one before I disbanded it around last month.

OPTIONAL QUESTIONS:

8. Cool/random facts about yourself? What do you like to do outside of art/spriting?
I like playing soccer/badminton/basketball, playing PS, playing DragonFable (an online RPG. You may know it, you may not), and participating in forums. Not to mention that I like coding stuff into my Pokemon Showdown server too.

9. Which sprites have been your favourite to work on?/Which do you think turned out the best?
Definitely Skiddo. It was really fun to work with. And it was easy to tell when I messed up, because all you have to do to check is to see if its cute enough ;)
And Skiddo turned out the best. Probably gogoat too.

10. Any shout-outs to your fellow spriters?
Nope. ;)

Heya, couldn't resist dropping by. I mean, I've broken quite a lot of promises on Smogon and I've come back to redeem myself

So I hope a QC of Megazard X can be entertained? A page or two back, Shiruba made what I think was a fairly valid point - the current Megazard X (left) was a little small in the head.
After a quick comparison, I realized it wasn't just the head, but the whole body. So I sort of....edited the sprite. (center.) DPP Charizard on the right for comparison (size, style etc).

Changes:
- Resized and cleaned up the entire thing.
- Touched up lineart here and there.
- Redid the shading here and there.
- Replaced the head with the DPP Charizard head, with minor edits. (lazy, I know. But hey it kinda works!)
- Redid the mouth flames.

Hope it's okay! Tell me any qualms about the sprite.

Also, sincere congratulations to princessofmusic for earning the artist badge. You may not know me but I've seen you since your first post on this thread, and I've been thoroughly impressed by your work. Your sprites are the closest to official quality I have ever laid eyes on.

EDIT: Oh nuts Quanyails, I didn't see your message to N-kin. Errr....awkward.

It looks much better, imo. The bigger head was just what it needed, and the details are much easier to see, much more Charizard-like, and definitely look a lot more like a Pokemon style. The fixing of the horns was great and necessary, the flames look much better, and the subtle QC elsewhere is good, too. At first, the neck looked a touch fragile or thin to me, but that might be just because I'm used to Charizard being hunched over. Either way, fantastic job.

Username: legitimate. Quite legitimate indeed.

1. How did you choose your Smogon username?
Yeah, I feel like that question kind of answers itself. When I first picked it maybe four years ago, I think my subconscious may have been thinking of the title page here (LEGITIMATE MENU PAGE).

2. What is your favourite colour?
Brellow.

3. Approximately how long have you been spriting?
Remember when I first posted that Mega Mawile sprite way back on page 2? That's actually the first real spriting thing I've ever done. Before that, it was just a few custom trainer sprites and putting Scizor's arms and legs on a Steelix. My previous animation experience was equally minimal.

4. Why did you join the sprite project?
It just seemed like a good opportunity to really participate in the Smogon community.

5. a) What are your favourite Pokemon? Pick three.
1. Rotom
2. Meloetta
3. Hitmontop (although it's at moderate risk of being replaced by Aegislash)

5. b) What is your favourite gen. 6 Pokemon?
Aegislash. Mawile also deserves a mention as my favourite Mega.

6. If you were a Pokemon, what would you be, and why?
Rotom. Go watch the anime episode Get Your Rotom Running and you'll see that I don't need a reason why.

7. Describe your competitive Pokemon experience, e.g., favourite tier(s).
I actually first started with DPP OU on Shoddy Battle, back in 2009 around Platinum's release. I was pretty bad and played up until BW. I revisited Smogon around when BW2 came out and got better. I play OverUsed, Ubers, and Little Cup, and I've managed to qualify for a grand total of one suspect tests in BW.

8. Cool/random facts about yourself? What do you like to do outside of art/spriting?
I'm definitely a math/programming/physics guy. I'm decent with other art stuff, last year I made myself a collection of duct tape hats.

9. Which sprites have been your favourite to work on?/Which do you think turned out the best?
Mega Mawile for both. It's by far my favourite Mega, it's first one I worked on, and I'll always be especially attached to it. I wasn't planning on sharing this yet, but part of the reason I'm redoing it is so it can be the subject of an animation tutorial that I will write soon. Those things need screenshots for example-providing.

10. Any shout-outs to your fellow spriters?
Just this.

I KNOW YOUR THERE SIIILVER!

Well, I can finally say I have something to show for my long hours of Mega Scizor QC. This thing was a pain in the arse, and I have yet to even complete the backsprite yet. Well anyway, here we go.

Original's on the left, my QC changes are on the right.

Primary differences:
-Changed the positioning of the left leg to be more forward-facing.
-Changed the right claw to be more visibly a claw, rather than its current scythes.
-Back is now 44% straighter, as Mega Scizor does not stand as hunched over as it's non-mega brethren.
-Wings were likewise edited to account for the posture fix. Also, Mega Scizor's wings are slightly different, so that has been accounted for as well.
-Numerous edits to the shoulder/thigh pads to make them more like Mega Scizor's.
-Head now 21% pointier. (According to Sugomori art, I believe this is a legit change, although I'm not certain. If you guys disagree, I can change it back to non-mega head spikes, but I feel this helps to differentiate it from normal Scizor.)
-Eye is 37% more focused on brutal murder.
-Changed the black highlight tone to be darker, as the contrast was too high on a sprite that has this much black.

Going to be a bit delayed in posting the backsprite, as I have yet to encounter one in game yet. I have a friend who agreed to trade me his Scizor, so I'll start work on that as soon as I get it entered into my Pokedex, so as I can have a reference on the wings and etc.

So yeah, I had fun with this. Be sure to drop off any CC you guys have and I'll be sure to tack some more fixes onto this beasty.

gonna send an update in of the stuff I have at the moment

hey Typhlito how possible would it be to have the Mewtwo Y front be in this colour scheme:
LyTuloW.png
I am having difficulty doing the colour swap since some outline colours were changed.

The back as well, I also wouldn't mind seeing the mid section of the back tail be more fluid as well, if that is at all possible.

I worked in a theme park.

9. Which sprites have been your favourite to work on?/Which do you think turned out the best?

Vivillon is the best because of how well the wings turned out, really happy with how Sylveon has been done, speaks to the nature of the project that it improved so much.

I shout at everyone enough do they need to have me shout some more? O_0;
