Hey, I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but I have a question about 5th gen battles.
On Showdown, in 5th gen battles 6th gen changes (e.g. Hydro Pump nerf to 110 BP) are shown in descriptions. However, I seem to remember that I was able to hit a Togekiss with a Dragon-type move in a randbat. So the question is, are 6th changes are implemented in 5th gen even if the descriptions are different? This affects stuff like damage calcs, etc.

No. It's just a client thing, everything should be as it should in gen 5 if you're playing a gen 5 game.

For the most part, people are pretty friendly on Pokemon Showdown. However, I'm seeing the following language become pretty common:

-redacted name-:cunt
-redacted name-:eat a sack of baby dicks nigga

Now, I'm removing this guy's name because I'm not entirely sure what policy Pokemon Showdown has on this sort of behavior. Is there a reporting policy for potty-mouths??

Mostly staff should detect behaviour such as this, but if not you can notify a staff member regarding it. It clearly isn't contributing anything positive to the chat, so it would ordinarily be dealt with.

in the event that it's in your battle / PM / a room that has no active staff, pretty much just PM any moderator / driver online at the time and they can use their discretion to decide how the user should be punished. we are generally OK with swearing so long as it isn't profuse / abusive (and what you quoted was both); just use your better judgement.

What determines how many points are gained from winning/losing matches?
It is based entirely on the rating of the two players. Anything that happens in the battle - forfeiting and hax namely - do not affect changes in rating. I don't really know the intricacies of the current rating system, although I feel like Antar or Zarel could help you out.

Okay, that helps. If anyone can explain in greater detail I'd definitely be interested.

Semi-related question: Why do ratings not reset when a new team is made on the same ladder? Or do they? Basically, I guess I'm just asking for information on what causes/can cause rating resets.

Look up Glicko2 if you are interested in details, PS uses a modified version. 4 factors go into how many points you win or lose, whether you win or lose, your rating, your opponents rating and your deviation (essentially how sure the system is your rank is the correct one, the lower the value the less points you gain/lose because the system is more sure of your rank).

The system tries to rank you and not your teams, so it doesn't reset every team. This is quite intentional for a fe reasons.

Does PS work on one of dual laptop/tablets? Does it work the same as a laptop if it does work? And if it doesn't, is there an alternative?
It works exactly the same on any device, besides scaling to fit the screen. On a smartphone/small tablet it looks different than a computer. Any computer (convertibles included) should run Pokemon Showdown with everything displayed on the screen as normal.

Occasionally when I try to play on Showdown it says "Only Guests" in the sidebar where the room's occupants are located. My name appears logged in, but i don't understand why this is occuring. I can interact with people on the chat, but it's quite frustrating not seeing who's in the room. Any fixes? I am most definitely logged in, because my name appears on the upper right. I have never been banned or have received any disciplinary actions toward me (e.g. muting, warnings). I normally play on the downloadable version for Windows. Oddly enough I can see the room's occupants in the mobile version. I can not also change my avatar for some reason and everytime I attempt to edit my personal information (e.g. password, avatar, personal settings) the server restarts. I've attempted to make a thread about this in the General Discussion forum (On PS forums and made a post on the Technical Support thread started by Antar, here) and did not receive any useful information, or replies. I've talked to several moderators about this and unfortunately they had no fixes for this issue. These glitches have been utterly detrimental to my Pokemon Showdown experience. At the suggestion of other users, I have also tried playing on the web client version using both the Google Chrome and Firefox engines, but the same problems occur there as well.

Just curious what is going to happen with the tiers now that Pokebank is released. Is pokebank going to be eliminated as a tier and just joined as XY OU? Will the ladders be reset? Or will XY OU become pre-pokebank ou and pokebank ou will just become ou? Thanks guys.

Right now, the Pokebank tiers will be removed and the regular tiers will allow Pokebank. Whether the regular tiers will be reset is presently not known. There will probably be a message in "Latest News" on what happens.

Thanks bro. Here's to hoping the tiers won't be reset lol

When will Gen 6 Randbats be available? Is there any place I can submit sets for pokemon?

The staff are actually working on deciding Randbats sets right now and are quite close to finishing, so my guess is that it'll be ready very soon.

Also, we're not looking for help at this point, since we're almost done anyway. We appreciate the offer, however :)

Shame, I just made a smogon account, I've been asking around for a while, though.
Another question: What does PS think of PO? I know PO doesn't follow smogon's sets, but other than that, do they have events together? Do they compete? Are there a lot of users that double dip?
