WARNING: No kids actually cried during the production of this warstory

I swept my tournament in Delran, NJ. There were 10 people total, 8 kids in the 10-12 range, me(19) and some 24 year old guy who I think went to Serebii, he knew what EV training was but didn't do it.

The guy who ran it goes to Serebii, apparently, although I'm not sure if he posts on their forums or just reads. He knew what EV/IVs were, although he wasn't a horribly competitive player. He didn't battle, though, so I can't be sure. Rules for mine were no ubers(Printed list that matched the standard list of ubers 100%, I think) single battle 4v4. had a team of ubers I borrowed from Skarm for the occasion, but they decided to ban ubers without telling everyone beforehand.

My team: SpecsGar w/ HP Ice 66, ScarfCross, Curselax w/ Lum(Didn't have a Chesto >_>), and Gyarados(One of Roy's karps, beefy EVing with Waterfall/Stone Edge/DD/Twave). My other two that I never used were my Bold RestTalking Cresselia and Smogon.com, my freshly hatched level 1 Koffing.

My first round was VS a kid with a Garchomp, a Sheer Cold Walrein and some other junk. I led with Gengar and OHKOed Garchomp with HP Ice. Walrein came out and I switched to Gyarados, who got OHKOed by Sheer Cold. Heracross came out after that and Close Combatted everything else to death, iirc.

Second round was VS the 24 year old guy, he had a Toxic Spiking Roselia, a Swampert w/ Hammer Arm, a Gallade and something else. I led with Snorlax and cursed while he toxic spiked. After that I cursed again while he Petal Danced me, socking poor Luffy(My Lax) in the nuts. That became a running theme with this battle. He socked me in the nuts again with Petal Dance and then got OHKOed by Body Slam. Swampert came out, Hammer Armed me and died immediately to Body Slam. He sent out an Infernape that CCed my Snorlax to death. I then sent out Gengar and Shadow Balled everything else to death in one shot each.

R3 was vs another of the kids, who if memory serves I had to beat twice(Fucked up brackets since there were only 10 people, there was a semi-losers bracket that only certain people were eligible for). He was packing Empoleon, Ludicolo, Moltres and Dragonite. First time he led with Dragonite vs my Heracross, I Stone Edged as he Fire Punched(no burn =[). He switched to Empoleon on the next Stone Edge, and I switched to Gyarados as he Hydro Cannoned. Dragon Danced once while he recharged, and then waterfalled him to death. Ludicolo came out and I guess killed Gyara with giga drain barely, since I remember his Moltres using Sunny Day and then Sky Attack during my first battle on my Snorlax, who must've been sent out after Gyara died.

Second time around with the kid I beat in R3 was for the finals. I led with Gengar vs his Dragonite, HP Iced it to death. Out came Empoleon, I sent out Gyarados again to eat another Hydro Cannon. Dragon Danced once as he recharged, waterfalled and flinched, leaving it with enough HP so another waterfall wouldn't kill it. I Dragon Danced again as he Ice Beamed me to like 40%, and then Waterfalled him to death. Ludicolo managed to not kill Gyara, guess Giga Drain didn't do enough damage. Gyara proceeded to Stone Edge and then Waterfall Ludi, killing it in the process. Moltres came out after that and ate a CH(ow.. overkill) waterfall, giving me the win.

I found it humorous that midway through this one kid's round 2 battle he let slip he had ARed on his team. When the guy running it asked him if he had used AR.. "Well.. kinda..". He got disqualified, although he claimed he didn't use it on anything he was using - although the masterballs they were caught with disagreed. I attached my few cloned masterballs to stuff in my boxes, in case the guy running it was a dick.

I went decked out in my JAA medal and my Pokemon Staff jacket, although it was a BIT warm in there. The geek points were worth it, though. The parents of the kids I beat didn't have anything against me competing, one of them even stated it was good that their kids knew there will always be someone out there better than them.

After winning I brought the game to Wal-Mart and returned it for $53.88. Their sale price + tax. Nifty.

All in all I had fun. Fun way to make $50. I'll probably get an R4 for my DS with the money.

Haha, I lol'd at that kid getting DQ'd. I'm surprised there was only 10 people there since all of the other ones I've been told about have had a lot more people. Also, the R4 DS wasn't made that well imo. I had to return my first one and buy a second one because of the problems the first one had and my new one still freezes on occasions.

WHAT

You can return it to Wal-mart? I'm so doing that tomorrow.

The guy running my tounament was a nice guy, he didn't mind reasonable amount of Masterballs, like the 6 I had. He wasn't too nitpicky. Didn't even check my Pokedex.

Congrats on the money.

Few approached me asking if I really needed the t-shirt. My reply: Well I have a nephew whom would be so thrilled to receive one.

I'm in essentially Bumblefuck, NJ. I was surprised at 10, tbh.

And as far as returning to Wal-Mart, if it's sealed(Mine was, wasn't the one we used for the tourney obviously..) you can, although they'll want photo-ID.

I did a "practice" battle with I think the kid that got DQed before the tourney started, although it was local and thus no level balance. I used the ubers I wasn't going to be able to use in the actual tourney and Kyogre took out 3 of the 4(we did 4v4 single) the kid had with Water Spout, those being Deoxys, Onix, and a level 50 Dialga. I forget what the last thing was, although the dual pressures from Deoxys and Dialga killed his PP so I struggled to death on him bringing him down to 25% thanks to a CH and then sent out Mewtwo for the win.

I think Nintendo gave every store 1 shirt, instead of 2. My store only had 1, as did Surgo's. The kid I beat got pissed off enough that I beat him quite badly twice in a row that he gave me his shirt and left, however.

My store only gave me the game, I too wanted the T-shirt.

It's hideous so there was no way the fashion whore in me would wear it, but it would've been a nice memento.

And there's a place in NJ called Bumblefuck? Wow, that's amazing. I must mapquest this place asap.

Heh. I've never actually opened either of my Pokemon shirts. I got the one today, and I've got one from JAA last year that I never wore. I had an awesome shirt I wore to JAA that I made.

The quotes on the left are "Calm Mind Suicune has no weak" and "Explode into double protect!!1", the second being inspired by Skarm's exploits in JAA Chicago.

The quotes on the right side are "Mike Papagianis(Skarm) is my hero!" and "Un-DQ Skarm! Canadians are people too!". In case you don't get that, Skarm got DQed after winning Chicago because he is Canadian.

Er! Damn...I shoulda brought mine to Wal-Mart instead of taking the immediate 20 bucks from Gamestop..*curses*

The worst thing about today probably was the fact they had 15 Wiis they sold today since they got enough PBR orders that Nintendo sent them extras. I didn't get there until there were like 5 left, and didn't realize they had Wiis until there were like 3 left. I didn't have enough money on me and they wouldn't hold one until my mom came back to pick me up, and the last one walked out about 5 minutes after the tourney was over.

Bring it to the return counter, "I got this as a gift, already have one, no receipt". They ask for ID, you sign a receipt, that's about that.

I already mentioned mine was sealed. They elected not to give me the opened copy and gave me a new one from their stocks instead, I guess.

Some walmarts will write your name down so that you can only do this once every six months (mine does) but you can just get someone else to do it for you, haha...

I enjoy seeing Snorlax in so many posts.

Wal-marts a good idea but mine wasn't sealed :( Also They only had one t-shirt as well, but the guy gave me a ninja gaiden t shirt and gave the 2nd place the pokemon t shirt, All i wanted was the t shirt but the employee felt bad for the 5 year old mush...

Man you got lucky, they gave me the one used in the tourney, so I could only return it for like $15 or less as part of store credit. I think I'll just sell mine to a friend for about $30-40, since I had the game already.

"Mike Papagianis(Skarm) is my hero!" and "Un-DQ Skarm! Canadians are people too!". In case you don't get that, Skarm got DQed after winning Chicago because he is Canadian.
I remembered Mike Papagianis' name from somewhere, and lo and behold he was in an issue of nintendo power (v193). they were talking about some tournament in seattle where some chris darling kid beat him in the finals.
mike was using groudon, blissey and exeggutor, and chris was using rayquaza (w/ hyper beam and fly wtf), groudon, and mewtwo
