I have a question.

What do you guys think about purchasing 6 IV'd, Shiny, Egg Move Pokémon off of sites like eBay? I'm thinking of doing it because I don't have the time to invest in IV breeding.
Don't do that shit it may seem harmless but I've seen games get ruined due to pay to win. Not only is it a risk to your bank account, lots of people doing that kind of thing is unhealthy for the game. You can always play on simulator for free if you don't have the time to breed a competitive team for cart.

Couple of unburden Sceptile questions. 1), does unburden only last until the pokemon switches out, or does the doubled speed apply to the rest of the match? 2) Is Jolly or adamant the way to go? and 3) what's the best way of activating unburden pre-flying gem? Maybe normal gem quick attack, though that means less coverage, or sub+pinch berry?

1) Once it activates after he loses the item, Unburden only lasts until Sceptile switches out. 2) Sceptile is very fragile, so I'd recommend Jolly. There's always swords dance. 3) Focus sash is a popular strategy I've seen, since Sceptile is such a glass cannon. Or you could go special (so timid nature) rather than physical and do leaf storm/white herb.

How do attacks that do fixed amount of damage work with resistances/weaknesses? Examples of attacks are Gyro ball/ Foul play/Seismic toss etc.

gyro ball/ foul play are given a base power, not fixed damage so they behave normally with types, seismic toss is only affected by immunitys

Thanks for the answer. And yeah, I was planning on running swords dance and focus sash seems like a good idea, which I'll try out. The white herb strategy seems counterproductive though, to have a set that relies on being able to use a stab move twice before switching out, while unburden only lasts until then.

Sorry, you're right. But you could do e.g. a naive nature and have leaf storm and leaf blade, or something of that nature. Swords dance/Sash is probably a better idea overall though.

I have a question about breeding conventions.

For the six symbols in the marking system, I have always used ●= HP, ▲=Atk, ■=SpAtk, ♥=Def, ★=SpDef, ♦=Spd. However, pokemon I have been wonder traded have been using a marking different than mine, so is there an established convention among breeders as to which symbols are to which stats?

Also, when you all use the notation X/Y/Z/W/Q/R to talk about IV's, what order are those stats supposed to be in?

I have a question. When is RU and lower tiers in general going to get implemented on showdown? Is there going to be something like an RU beta implemented next month or something?

I've always used that same notation for IVs, so no clue if there's another established way.
Although, in older generations, I've used the symbols to represent something other than IVs, usually the heart meant "I need to breed a copy of this", and triangle was "I've used this pokemon for contests"
There's always the possibility if they're pokebank pokemon that they have two of the marks switched (I know this happened in one gen switch, but I forget which symbols and which gen)

And usually, IVs are noted HP/Atk/Def/SpA/SpD/Spe, the same order the IV judge gives them, again, I've never come across another kind of notation, but that doesn't mean there isn't one...

Was Mega Luke banned recently? I read about it in a post in the link below ("before the Mega Luke ban").

Probably someone assuming that he's going to be banned. He's probably the most powerful Mega by a decent margin now that MegaKhan and MegaGengar are gone.

UU is still barely in beta. RU and NU probably won't be created until there's a few months of UU statistics available.

I have a VGC team that got me to the upper 1600s in Special Battle Spot ladder (it's based on the one I posted here that no-one saw, but I changed something regarding moves, EV spreads and two Pokémon of it). However, as soon as I got there, I started falling down again. And it happens over and over again. I'm way better than most of players below 1520 or so, I win some and lose some against 1520~1600 and I got beaten easily by teams over that. I have two wins against 1700 and one win against 1800, the rest, I lost all of them. Is that probably a problem with the team, with my inability to read team preview or with me? I mean, I have a tourney this Saturday, but I kind of lost my confidence that I can perform well, and I know that's really bad.

there is zero guarantee that you'll even get a response from the person let alone the pokemon you "bought", and selling digital items is againt ebay's ToS anyway. If you see people selling them you really should report them.

It's also really stupid to be selling them because again, it's against ebay's ToS, and even if you do trade the legit pokemon they bought, they can just do a chargeback afterwards and there's nothing you can do about it.

Can Leavanny learn sticky web alongside knock off?
I'm not sure but i don't think thats possible. Leavanny learns Knock Off through 5th gen tutor, and Sewaddle learns Sticky Web through level up. Sewaddle can't learn knock off and Leavanny can't learn Sticky Web.. so yeah.

How does Garchomp learn stealth rocks in X/Y? Is it even possible yet? (Wasn't able to find anything confirming or denying)
Like most Pokémon, Garchomp must be taught Stealth Rock via TM in DPPt/HGSS or Tutor in BW2 and then transferred to XY. It cannot learn Stealth Rock via level/egg/TM/tutor in XY.

I say stats from top to bottom in the status screen, so HP / Atk / Def / SATk / SDef / Spe, and then left to right for the symbols.

So for me, ●= HP, ▲=Atk, ■=Def, ♥=SAtk, ★=SDef, ♦=Spe. The only difference I do from you then is switching Def from heart to square and SAtk from square to heart.

The official and the widely-known spread is HP/Atk/Def/SpA/SpD/Spe.

HP and Spe are first and last, and then offenses (with attack being 1st) with their respective defense stat right after them.

Why does Cloyster need more than ~72 EV in Speed (with neutral nature)?

I'm kind of a noob, but here's my thinking. This gives a Speed stat of 194 at Lev. 100. My assumption is that either you got the shell smash off or you're probably slower, so why try to be faster without the smash? With 72 ev and the shell smash +2 Cloyster's speed becomes 388. This out speeds the meta as, for example, 252 Jolly Talonflame has 386 speed. (am I correct that +2 doubles the stat?)
