How about Arcanine learning Sacred Fire? The Pokemon is a legendary in a sense, it says so in its Pokedex enteries. "Gold: This legendary Chinese Pokemon is considered magnificent. Many people are enchanted by its grand mane." And Sacred Fire, sounds like a move that would be learnt by a Pokemon such as this? I'm sure the no recoil damage is a bonus, and the 50% burn chance. Anyone agree?
It seems that would be far too similar to Entei to really make a difference. Also, send your ideas to alexwolf, don't post them here. This is supposed to be for discussion of Gourgeist.

Flash fire gougerist gives charizard Y a reason to use air slash, now that it's immune to fire. While charizard X can still hit hard using dragon STAB. Just realized it's almost a full stop to infernape

Char-Y still really shouldn't use Air Slash; it doesn't offer enough coverage over other moves and it's not that hard to deal with Gourgeist through other means. Gourgeist still has Dark, Ghost and Ice weaknesses.

Being a full-stop to Infernape isn't really a reason to use it so much as a bonus. Again, lots of Pokemon can do that.

I hate to be an ass, but it seems like we over estimated this theorymon, its disappointingly lackluster.

Flash fire fails to actually help gourgeist do anything to the Pokemon it can now switch in on.

It can KO or really threaten with anything besides rock slide... Because no fire type will stay in on leech seed.

This ability is literally only useful as a safety cushion against fire coverage moves on things it already can seed stall.

You can also now beat blissey with flamethrower in a stalling match.

Can't we move on to a voting round?

It was never really meant to cause shockwaves (as is any choice with this thread). It simply gives a rather decent Pokémon an ability that suits its flavor and may push it to moderate usage in OU.

Gourgeist was never bad, even without Flash Fire. Flash Fire just gives it a little more oomph, especially considering it makes Gourgeist the only SubSeeder that's immune to Fire-type attacks (and I think the only one that takes less than neutral damage, too!). Entirely walling most Rotom-A (which means those that lack Trick or Toxic) and handling most standard Charizard sets is a pretty useful niche which could definitely warrant its place in a FWG core. Pair this guy with (Mega) Gyarados and specially defensive or offensive Heatran and you've got a pretty solid core on your hands. Earthquake and Sludge Bomb Mega Venusaur is the only thing that comes to mind that can handle this core, and slapping a Shuca Berry or Balloon on Heatran in combination with some Speed EVs to creep up on Venusaur can really help with that. If you run SubDisable Gourgeist, even better!

Let's go to our next slate:
  • Fur Coat Mega Ampharos (Punchshroom)
  • Regenerator Registeel (U-Ralph)
  • Slack Off Krookodile (alexwolf)
  • Water / Fairy Milotic (Sevifar)
You have 24 hours to vote. Only vote for one theorymon, and the theorymon with the most votes wins. Don't forget to bold your votes, otherwise they won't count. In the case of a tie, we will vote again for the two theorymon that tied, with another day time limit. Start voting!

And here is the competitive merit behind each theorymon:

Fur Coat Mega Ampharos: Mega Ampharos becomes able to wall most physical attackers without STAB Ground, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy moves. Furthermore, it is now free to focus on special bulk, checking common and dangerous special attackers such as Thundurus, Mega Charizard Y, and Keldeo. And while this may seem a bit too much with Mega Ampharos's already great physical bulk, don't forget that physical attackers with those STABs are very common and some of the best sweepers in OU, such as Mega Charizard X, Dragonite, Garchomp, Azumarill, and Mega Mawile. Also, Mega Ampharos lacks reliable recovery, so it definitely won't become unkillable.

Regenerator Registeel: The two biggest problems of Registeel have always been lack of reliable recovery and lack of offensive presence. Regenerator fixes one of those two, and provides a good check to a plethora of common offensive Pokemon.

Slack Off Krookodile: Krookodile is facing big competition with Landorus-T. Slack Off gives it a big advantage over Landorus-T, which in addition to countering Aegislash, checking Bisharp, and access to Taunt, could make Krookodile a solid choice in OU.

Water / Fairy Milotic: Not much to say here other than a single list of what Milotic checks or counters with this new typing: Mega Charizard X, Keldeo, Latios, Latias, Greninja, Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Terrakion, Conkeldurr.

Regenerator Registeel

Fur Coat Ampharos is too ridiculous, Water / Fairy Milotic is yet another Fairy retype, Slack Off Krookodile is kinda cool but I prefer the Registeel idea.

Water / Fairy Milotic

Incidentally, the suggestion I sent in was Water/Dragon Milotic, and it was really hard to choose between that and this.

Water/Fairy Milotic

Would like to see its awesome new ability in Competitive actually see a little use. Plus, I feel a bit sad to see the era of bulky waters ending. Milotic would have a ton of defensive uses with the simple type change.

Regenerator Registeel came to a close second for me, but I really don't see the flavor making sense.

Slack Off Krookodile

To be honest I'm a bit disappointed with this round. It seems that we are going backwards a bit as we are covering both Ampharos and Regenerator again, and then just whacking fairing typing on yet another pokemon. Hence I voted for Krookodile as it is unique to a lot of other theorymons but I'm still not sure I feel the flavor. "Moxie = Force of character, determination, or nerve" (Dictionary). Generally those who are determined don't "Slack Off".

Sorry for being so negative but this is how I feel :(

Regenerator Registeel would be very interesting and somewhat unpredictable in whether it is Physically or Specially defensive.

Regenerator Registeel
This was a toss-up between this and Krook. Water/Fairy Milotic is pretty bland. Fairy retypings are boring and Milotic doesn't even learn any Fairy-type moves as another STAB, though I know Milotic will use the retyping more defensively. I want to give other Pokemon a chance, and M-Ampharos has already been explored with Regenerator. Fur Coat doesn't really address M-Ampharos' main problem, which is a lack of recovery.
