Any standouts live?

I would rank the performances gorguts > carcass > the black dahlia murder > noisem, tho if I liked tbdm's music as much as I liked carcasses I would probably put them over carcass. Tbdm was the surprise of the show for me, they were the band I was least looking forward to but they put on a great live show. Trevor Strnad is a great frontman with lots of energy and crowd interaction. I don't know if I would pay for a tbdm show on its own but after that performance I would not consider them a negative on the bill. Gorguts performed flawlessly, they only issue for me was that they didn't get more time. Carcass were great, lots of energy for a couple of old blokes. Noisem's set was solid, they were obviously less polished than the other bands there and the lack of experience showed in their live set. There is something to be said for their balls to the wall energy though.

Edit: forgot to mention I got to shake Luc Lemay's hand. Coolest shit ever.

I see, thanks for telling me in such detail! I actually know firsthand how good TBDM is live since I went through their whole set at Warped last summer without even knowing who they really were and boy did they deliver big time. They even brought one of their techs or merch guys on stage in a gorilla suit for Statutory Ape! So much fun.

i saw TBDM in Richmond in a sketchy basement at 1am because they got caught in traffic and missed their set time on tour with Every Time I Die/As I Lay Dying/Scarlet back in 2004.

it was sloppy as hell, but it was fun.

also dudes from Lamb of God and Swarm of the Lotus were in attendance so there's that.

So 4 days ago at Regency Ballroom in San Fran I went to the Decibel Magazine Tour, which was pretty damn awesome. I wasn't really too much into Carcass's music but they did quite well live. The Black Dahlia Murder and Gorguts were the definite highlights for me.

Then, 2 days later at the same venue I saw Animals As Leaders and After The Burial.....I thought Animals as Leaders might dumb down their songs even a little bit because of exactly how ridiculously hard their notes and drum patterns are. They didn't. Not even a single note was off, and their drummer didn't even let off for a second. Ridiculous. After the Burial were also extremely solid live. Chon and Navene K, the other 2 bands were real sick. Navene K is Animals as Leaders's old drummer playing live drums with electronic music, while Chon is really sick instrumental prog rock. Both great openers.

yeah no of course AaL was amazing live.

bands like that don't record shit they can't pull off live, and Tosin is one of the best guitarists alive, metal or otherwise.

also everyone tune in to my show Wednesday, it's my wife's birthday and we're having a party in the studio, and she's picked all the songs for the set, and it's awesome.

Happy birthday to your wife, and I'll try my best to tune in tonight.
