Doki's art: critics are welcome~ (trad. art only for the time being :c)

Hi I'm Doki and I've been drawing seriously since I was about 9 uwu
You see... my issue is that I really want to pursue art
but my parents don't agree saying that I'll never be great enough :/
So all I ask is if maybe you could tell me what you guys think and maybe critique my art?

Aww, I'm very sorry to hear that. You might consider contacting resident artist chameleonskyes as I think you would relate to her. I also hope she won't mind the tag, eheh.

On your deviantART gallery, your characters and your colourwork look good. You're still pretty young, so you've got time to buff up your skills before you apply for a post-secondary art program. By "pursuing art", do you mean you want to be a cartoonist/illustrator/animator? Try to seek out professionals in the fields you're interested in and see what they'd say.

My advice is that it helps to have a solid foundation. Study art theory. Look at topics such as composition, e.g., "rule of thirds", and colour temperature. In particular, I'd strongly suggest practice with figure drawings to help develop a greater understanding of anatomy and proportions. Experiment with different mediums and extend your versatility. I attended an art program in high school and had the chance to speak with one professional animator, who looked at my work and recommended I should become more flexible and learn to draw in a wider variety of styles because I was drawing everything the same way. That's all I've got... I don't think I've covered much, so I hope others will pitch in. Good luck!!

Yeah, my parents just want the best for me and they don't like the side of an art career where it can be hit or miss for you :c Cuz part of it can be luck based in a way but not always
By pursuing I mean I want to make maybe half a living out of it with the other portion probably being from music/being a flute teacher. :3 I can't imagine doing much while working under someone honestly so I'd mostly be self employed I guess. However, I am still young so that could all change.~ Ideally I want to do a lot of stuff like sell prints, do commissions, probably try for a children's picture book too. :3
Heehe, I love trying new stuff all the time. I like to keep a consistent style but from time to time in my sketch book or on digital I try a bunch of new stuff. c: Though, I haven't really looked too much into theory, maybe a bit but not much into depth. I still have my music side to worry about too. That AP music theory class at school isn't going to take itself lawl.~
