I don't think I've ever seen a positive reaction to how high ASB players' post counts are; that's from both the outside Smogon community and from the players itself. As a result, I went into the ACP and prevented posts from this forum counting towards total post count. This doesn't delete the number of posts any of you have currently, but it will prevent any future posts from counting towards overall number of posts. You all should have the same post count as you did yesterday, but it won't go up anymore.

I thought this was an improvement, but let me know if this is an issue. Unsticky or delete this when you see fit. Cheers~
 
However, note that it will show up under the Forum Presence option on any given users' profile that you are still making posts here. This only has an effect on the total number of messages listed in a postbit. Let me know if I've missed something here.

IIRC this came up before the old host crashed, and I said I had no problem with ASB posts not counting towards post count. I think they did something similar back then, but with the move there was already a thousand other things that were more important than "OMG ASB gives too much PC++" so I never brought it up.

People looking at postbits for an indication of poster quality is foolish in general anyway, but hey, it's the internet. Gotta stroke people's egos.
 
I didn't think I said anything negative about it ;_; I said it didn't matter if the user's postcount was a lot.

Now how am I supposed to get more posts than skylight

Agreed. Anything to make my postcount look normal again. I am serious.

That said, this issue is literally a mountain out of a molehill. It does not really matter to me if it counts towards postcount or not; all postcount is is a number that does not bear much relevance on this forum (take a look at bmelts).

I am probably being a bit contradictory here but I would still prefer a "normal" postcount.

Also, I believe the consensus is to have ASB posts retroactively removed from counting towards total post count. I've found out that we have the technology (squeal), but we're gonna need someone with a lot of site access to run the script. I'll see if Joim is capable of doing it. Otherwise, just sit tight.
 
tbh I don't like that reffing is now worth less than shitty firebot one liners but I don't feel to strong against this anyway

As one of my smart super moderator friends pointed out, I have the ability to manually edit anyone's post count (my power knows no bounds). I can use this feature to change ASB member's post count upon request to effectively remove inflated postcounts. I'd use this thread to have them tell me how many posts they've made in ASB (can be found under "Posting History" on user profiles) AND how many posts they've made since I disabled posts on Tuesday. I'd take that number and subtract the necessary amount of posts.

This is obviously time sensitive; the longer we wait on this, the more posts people will have to look up from the forum. So if we could please get a move on this today, that would be ideal. IAR is indifferent. Once I have your approval / indifference, I'll make this an option.

I don't see why we should even bother with removing post count. All I'm seeing here is, frankly, a political stunt to make ASB seem more "Smogon Friendly". In all likelyhood, nobody inside or outside the forum gives a crap about post count. If it affected something forum wise (such as a "Most Posts in a Year Award" thing) then I could see the point, but even then I don't think removing ASB effectively from the whole forum is the way to go about it.
 
I have no problem with disabling future post counts because it removes all the ammo those that hate us have but please don't touch my post count as is.

?_? Take a seat, bucko. You're not the only one posting in ASB. I know for a fact there's tons of people who do not like their postcount inflated so much (just ask Pwnemon). We're not removing it from the forum; just because posts don't count doesn't mean that ASB isn't important. If anything, it means that it's used more than any other forum out there.

I should have 374 posts, please change it as I need to be reminded that there are other things that qualify as "activity" other than "bide-hold-release".

Also, more than 5000 posts on ASB makes me realise I have no life haha.
