Pokémon Summer Day Camp Review: Warrington

Toys R Us Website with information on the Event

Hey there Pokémon fans, as most of you will know, Nintendo have decided to do an Event around the UK to celebrate the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl for the Nintendo DS. This Event allowed you to finally download the elusive Pokémon, Mew! AS well as this, you were also able to play Pokémon Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS Lites provided, and play Pokémon Battle Revolution on the Wii! Everyone also got a free Goodie Bag, which was nice. This is just a quick write up/review of what I did there and what I thought of the Event. I visited the Event at Warrington, as it was the closest one to Manchester, which was a bit dissapointing really.

I travelled there with my friend Luke. So, we got there in the car and stupidly went into the Store, only to find out that we didn't notice the great big tent in the parking lot ._.

Picture of Luke and me arriving, notice the tent that we missed at first :P

So we had a quick look around, then were told that we had to "sign in" first, which involved filling in a "Trainer Card" like so:

FillinginTrainerCard.jpg

You had to fill in your Name, Age, Trainer Name and the time at which you arrived. Inside there were also a few questions to answer, which were as follows:

"What is the name of the Pokémon Expert that you run into at Lake Verity?"
"Name a place you can find Wild Pokémon?"
"Where do you store information about your Pokémon?"
"What is the name of the new region in Pokémon Diamond & Pokémon Pearl?"
"What colour are Pokémon Centers?"
"Name something you can buy in a Pokémart?"
"What move would have the best effect on a Fire Type Pokémon?"
"What can't you do in a battle with a Pokémon Trainer?"
"Who must you defeat in battle to earn a badge?"
"How many new Pokémon in total can be captured in the Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl games?"
"Which room in the Pokémon Center can you trade and battle Pokémon with friends?"
"What points are boosted when you receive a Pokémon in trade?"

Nothing too hard at all, the answers were located in different areas of the tent, so it wasn't hard to complete the challenge. You had to collect stamps on your Trainer Card by completing tasks, answering questions etc. The cards were placed into a box when you were finished, and you recieved your Goodie Bag. I'll explain more on the Goodie Bags later though. I'm also unsure of what the prize maybe for the winner, if there is one of course. Anyway, onto Mew!

Lining up for Mew, the queue was quite long, and they only had one guy distributing Mew, which wasn't great. But as long as everyone got one, it doesn't really matter does it?

DownloadGuy.jpg

And here he is! The Download Guy! I didn't catch his name, but he was rather cool. He gave me 15 Mews in total, which was nice of him :) I didn't have to line up again either, I had more than one space left on each of my carts, in my Party. So he just added more than one at a time for me. You didn't even need to take your GBA in the end, as they had 2 there for the downloads to take place on. But I'd still advise you to take your own GBA just to be safe.

Picture of me and the Download Guy, getting my Mews, because he was so cool =] thought I'd get myself in a photo as well!

Next to the Mew download zone was the Pokémon Battle Revolution area. I was a bit dissapointed as they only had one Nintendo Wii set up, and one copy of Battle Revolution. The queue was quite long, so I didn't actually get the chance to play it. I did take a quick video though:

There was also a kid dressed up as a Regirock, so I decided to take a few pics of him too :)

His costume was awesome! He must've been hot inside there as the weather was nice, but oh well.

At this point we had to leave, as it was Lukes mothers birthday, but we still got a good haul. Here are some pictures of what you get in the Goodie Bags:

I would've liked to spent more time there, as I didn't get the chance to have any battles or make some trades, but as I already said, we had to leave rather quickly. All in all I thought the Event was awesome, all the staff were really helpful and it was very enjoyable. I got chatting to a few of the staff members there too, especially the guy providing the downloads and they were all easy to get along with. The only things that could've made the event better were more people provding Mew downloads to prevent queues, more Wii's set up with Battle Revolution and of course, getting a Celebi as well would've been nice. I'd still advise all of you to take a trip to one of these tours if you can make it, it'll be well worth it! Nintendo should do more Events like this in the future.

rofl when you showed me that Regirock kid, I thought you meant he had like a figurine he made or something, not him dressed up as one! Sounds like a pretty good day, I should be going to Croydon on the 26th for mine, but you're giving me one tomorrow anyway :D

The Regirock kid made me lol

The class schedule was sorta nice, even though I could never see myself using it in public places. Even if I would, I live in Canada =( I could probably go to some New York Pokemon Center events in the future, but I still wouldn't no matter what they give away due to it not being worth it.

The tent looks pretty cool too; I'd go camping in that!

What are you talking about, that Regirock was the best thing! D:

It seemed that you had a great time, shame you didn't get to battle or trade.

gotta wait til the 15th for mine...hope i find my emerald version, then i can get mews on all 3 versions of gba pokemon i own :)

Sounds like fun, the last Nintendo event I went to was one way back in the RBY days to get Mew. My parents got it for me in my to-be-Xmas-gift Blue. Then i restarted because i thought you couldn't restore PP and ended up losing Mew. Stupid 1st grade me :[

P.S That Regirock kid was awesome

Lmao, at first I thought that was a picture of some figure that won a craft project, and then I saw that it was a person ^_^. Too bad they didn't pass out darkrais.

I know everyone else is saying it, but it's true. That Regirock costume is awesome! Also, props to you and Luke (is he a member of Smogon?) for going to this. I would've taken one look at a huge tent with Bonsly on it, and turned straight around. Or maybe pretend to be a parent if I wanted a Mew real bad XD

Lmao, me too. I would have brought my little brother and said i was parenting. And i hope no one over the age of 8 uses that schedule.

Hah, i thought that regirock was a figurine, lol. Also, if i may ask, how did you got 15 mews? Did you brought like, 3 games and got 5 on each?

I haven't checked all the IV's yet, but I've got a Jolly with 20+ in both Speed and Attack, as well as a Modest with 30-31 HP and 30-31 SAtk, it's Speed sucks though.

I took my Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red and Emerald. I had 5 Spaces on both Ruby and Sapphire, so I got 5 on each of those. 1 on Fire Red and 4 on Emerald, I would've lined up again for more, but it would've taken far too long.

There were also just as many older people there as younger people. Meaning basically just as many late teens (16+) as the kids like 13 and under. Was rather surprised to be honest.

I'll post soon with all the good Mews IVs, and clone those for people. If you're opposed to a clone of a good one you can also have a crappy legit one, I got a Hardy and Serious and some other wank stuff as well.

I also do not have XD, so no Hypnosis I'm afraid... I may try and find it cheap and plow through it, but I don't know if I can be arsed. Hypnosis is one of Mews favourite toys though...

your a lucky bastard. Then again, with so many Mew's, i guess you had to get at least ONE good one.

>:P

So, Havak, how much did it cost to get in? Any other details I need to know? I am going to the Cardiff one, but the Ninty Service number charges high fees, which I would have to pay out of my pocket money.
