Eggs have their own value, you find the eggs value. You ask a hobo with the matching value to hatch it for you, boom shiny. ESV = egg shiny value, TSV = trainer shiny value; both match = shiny.

More or less. Egg has a value, and if it matches the trainer's value, it hatches shiny. There are 4096 such values, so there's a 1/4096 chance of an egg hatching shiny.

You're kinda on the right path. Yes, each person has their own shiny value. But each egg has their own shiny value as well. If that egg shiny value matches with the trainer shiny value then the egg will hatch into a shiny. There's programs that can tell what values each eggs has and stuff. :D
 
Question about the Heracross/Pinsir event: is the gender set, or is it set when you receive the wonder card (like I heard was the deal with the Pokeball Vivillon), or no?

Gender locked, female only. Pokeball Vivillon, male only. Fancy Vivillon, male/female; gender locked upon receiving Wondercard.
 
Do the Pinsir/Heracross come with any IVs guaranteed? The combination of adamant and at few good egg moves at least makes the Heracross a good breeding start point for me, even with no Rock Blast.

if you are talking about the event no they only have the nature locked the IVS are totally random

Breedable events never come with guaranteed IV's. Legendaries come with 3, 31 IV's (or in the case of shiny Genesect last gen, two static 31's in ATK and SPE).

Edit: The only exception to this is Christmas Scyther and Christmas Haunter that came with two random 31 IV's.

Thanks all you guys! Makes much more sense now :) just one last question: how would I find my TSV? I'm aware of the KeyBV program for finding ESVs, but I don't think it finds TSV's.

There has been an updated version of KeyBV, namely KeySAV2. Using this one can set the output mode to TSV, which will show the TSV in place of the ESV for already hatched Pokémon (note, it's possible that KeyBV also has this setting, but if you haven't set up yet, you might as well use the newer version).

What is the highest possible IV spread for Hidden Power Ice on a mixed attacker? Psypoke says it would be 31/31/31/31/31/30

Well, let's see how long it takes Dream Radar to turn up a seed of that for Thundurus.

Use 30/31/30/31/31/31 if youre going mixed for thundurus...speed tier man. Especially of youre goin naive or any other +spd nature
