Hello everyone!
Attempt #2 (with some edits from previous team posted thanks to amazing members here on this site) to see if I can get some more help with my competitve team; I am always looking for as many improvements as possible. I am open to any and all constructive criticism and ideas to make this team better. Before you ask, I want to keep Jolteon in my team no matter what because it is my favorite Pokemon. I am trying to build this team to battle the PAX Pokemon League (and follow their rules- http://paxpokemonleague.net/rules/) it wouldn’t be the same trying to get Gym Badges in real life without my favorite Pokemon, you know? :p
Here is my team and a brief description (plus questions for some in the description) below the Pokemon:
Offensive Core:
Zoe (Jolteon) (F) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 60 HP / 252 SpA / 196 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Agility
- Baton Pass
I'm trying to use Jolteon as a Special Attack Sweeper using Agility first as a guarantee that I am faster than anyone and the ability to use Baton Pass to maintain that speed when I switch into Mega-Heracross to combat any of Jolteon's counters. Thunderbolt as Jolteon's STAB and Hidden Power Ice to cover Ground (and Dragon) types like Garchomp when they come in to counter. Plus with agility I have the speed to always go first and with the Special Attack EV's and special effect boost from Expert Belt, I am able to OHKO them.) The problem I have found recently is that sometimes it is better to just attack and not even risk using agility and taking a hit just to be faster than everyone. Should I stick with Agility & Baton Pass to help out Mega-Heracross as a sweeper? Or try something else like more attack options to cover weaknesses…
Mr. Forearms (Heracross-Mega) (M) @ Heracronite
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 196 HP / 252 Atk / 60 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pin Missile
- Rock Blast
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
Mega-Heracross is my Bulky Physical Sweeper and with the Baton Pass plus Agility from Jolteon it can out speed pretty much everything just enough with the 60 speed on it and making it bulkier by giving the the 196 HP. (If I do change Jolteon’s Agility and Baton Pass should I add more speed to Heracross?) Skill link will guarantee 5 shots of pin missile and bullet seed creating some nice one move KO's and Close Combat/Earthquake are massive physical moves to help keep his move variation quite complex to cover a large amount of super effective moves against a variety of Pokes.
Heat Train (Heatran) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 12 SpD / 244 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Flamethrower
- Flash Cannon
Leaving the Physical damage to Mega-Heracross I've brought in Heatran to round out my offensive core. I'm continuing with the Speed factor here to make sure that I can get a shot off first and have Sub and Toxic to give him and my team so more maneuverability. The problem I have run into is if ground moves go off on Heatran or Jolteon it’s a big problem for my offensive core (I try to switch in Skarmory to counteract an incoming ground move) and they are even normal effective against Heracross and do a good amount of damage to him so that is another problem I've encountered. Again, open to suggestions but I love the offensive potential Heatran brings to this team. (Only issue being if I transfer this to my Gameboy it’s impossible to guarantee more than 3 or 4 perfect EV’s, any other suggestions on someone I can breed and throw in this spot would be great)
Defensive Core:
Bling Blang (Klefki) (M) @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave
I usually lead off with Klefki to set up my screens, throw a T-Wave on them first if possible and maybe even set up spikes. I’ve seen a good amount of Klefki use and this helps me set up with Jolteon to get that Agility off to be able to baton pass to Heracross when seen fit. Sometimes I have to deviate from starting up that way and have had a hard time finding a way to work that in (due to typical constant flamethrower threat on Klefki which has made me think I should even out the Def and SpD EVs) Love Klefki as my typical lead and dual screener. As always any tips are always helpful :)
Eggcelent (Chansey) (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 8 HP / 252 Def / 248 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Stealth Rock
- Wish
- Protect
Chansey instead of Blissey with the Eviolite presented a much stronger defensive Pokemon from what I have looked at/tested. The Stealth Rock was too tempting to pass up plus Wish (to use on any of my team instead of Soft-boiled for just Chansey) and Protect combo to scout out moves and health myself felt pretty good defensively in my mine. I've had trouble with Ghost types because I can’t attack them with Seismic Toss while trying to eliminate Ghost moves by sending Chansey in but I'm not sure what else would go great. I've seen Flamethrowers on other Chansey's but Heatran covers my fire type on my team. Again open to any and all suggestions.
Sky (Skarmory) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Tailwind
- Roost
- Brave Bird
- Defog
The Skarmory & Chansey Defensive combo I have heard about before when looking up combos for Jolteon (seeing and passing up the Jolteon & Gyarados combo for the physical attacker that is Mega Heracross) Tailwind helps give my entire team speed so that baton pass isn't needed to out speed someone when switching (I’ve thought about taking advice and using Taunt as well, still testing that out not sure whats better yet but with the speed needed on my team I feel I should keep it in baring any changes), roost helps recover from brave bird and defog gets rid of all traps (also having an issue figuring out if I can get Defog on Skarmory by breeding a perfect Skar in X&Y and bringing him down to D&P to teach him DeFog then bring him back up, is that possible?). I love this Skarmory/Chansey duo and haven't considered taking it out of my team but if everyone has good reasons as to why I am open to any and all suggestions that make my team around Jolteon better :)
Looking forward to hearing any and all help possible! Thanks everyone :)
