ORAS General Discussion - Mark 2 - Spoilers Inside

I've been compiling a list of Pokemon unable to be caught in gen 6 and, assuming the hoenn dex won't see a change, there are still 61 Pokemon unable to be caught, following RS's availability not Emerald's. This includes starters but excludes legendary, which won't be a problem according to the leaks, and mythical Pokemon. So hopefully we will see a change so that every Pokemon can be used in VGC and of course it's just fun to catch them all!

Edit: Buneary will probably be available in ORAS, because of mega Lopunny, so this takes the amount to 59 missing Pokemon.

Edit: if you go by Emerald's availability you have 47 'missing' Pokemon.

Won't every Pokémon be usable in VGC regardless due to breeding?
... well... except Unown.
... Oh nooooo, Unown isn't usable, nooooo...
This is not quite true, as the Pokemon have to be XY dex, or in this case ORAS for them to be legal for VGC.
This however does not support my theory of them be illegible for VGC, well you can at least catch them all in gen 6.
That's something, right?

I think they're doing away with the 'dex-only' rule and keeping only the 'kalos-born only' rule if they're making this much of an effort to make EVERY legendary viable. I mean I doubt every legendary'll be in the dex, so...

Mega Beedrill confirmed

But anyway, VGC rules aren't absolute. VGC 2015 may only allow Hoenn-born Pokemon that are part of the regional dex, or have all Pokemon eligible. For all we know, they might drop the Gen VI-born rules so that previous gen tutors could be used. You never know until the ruleset is announced.

Yeah i mean what's the point of including so many legendaries if you wont be able to use them competitively

It's more the fact that they're including -every single one-. If it was just adding in some that haven't been seen in a while like they did with HGSS and BW2 then yeah I'd treat this as standard fare, but with the Kalos Born rule and the fact that they're making such an effort to make every legend obtainable before the gen is finished...

VGC '10 v2.0?

I suggest we tread lightly here and stop spitting out absolutes without any sort of backing to them. We are not GF, and only GF knows what will be in ORAS. Remember the last time someone thought something was absolute, such as "no new moves being added in the middle of a generation" - huh, Cobraroll, er... I mean, Codraroll?

Yeah, with that in mind, I'm honestly surprised to see so many people take it for granted that Beedrill and Pidgeot will only get +100 BST to work with, no more and no less (unless it's 90). You'd think that one "rule" would be the easiest one for GameFreak to break if they felt it appropriate.

Also, the main reason why I doubted the existence of new moves was compatibility with old games (XY), which so far hasn't been confirmed or even brought up officially (even though I admit it's becoming more and more likely). Either way, it baffles me that GameFreak would go to the trouble of making three new Abilities and moves, and not, say, twenty or thirty. Or why they kept a bunch of unused moves and in XY's code, if they planned to introduce more by patches later. It seems like they've gone for some sort of hybrid strategy, half-assing both the concept of patching and the one of "content on cart".

It was confirmed a while back that ORAS would be compatible with Pokemon Bank, so it's somewhat-likely the new games will be compatible with X/Y. My guess is Game Freak originally wasn't planning to use DLC/Patches, but changed their mind somewhere along the line of production.

Why is there any doubt ORAS is compatible with XY
If you REALLY want proof, there was that japanese website thing about mega slowbro a while back which showed you catching a slowpoke in XY and trading it to ORAS.

I could see them pulling a Generation II compatibility scheme, where you can trade Pokemon with X/Y as long as they don't have new moves/abilties, but can't battle between the games.

I'm curious about the possibility of a patch though. Game Freak initially said they weren't doing DLC when X/Y first came out, and so far the only extra downloads were patches to fix bugs. Besides, I can see getting such a patch for X/Y to be problematic for those who don't have stable access to wifi.

oh my god FLYING. LIKE REAL OVERWORLD FLYING. Dreams do come true! Looks so coooool. and yes at all legendaries (more or less) being available. I can finally get a Landorus for Battle Spot...

The new megas look cool. I really like Beedrill, and it seems they've just come "more stingers!". I hope it's butt stinger can be fired like a missile. Mega Pidgeot is majestic, definitely wants a SpA boost. I'm finding it difficult to think how Beedrill will make a viable mega evolution though, it's base form is just too weak unfortunately. It will end up 495 and for a mega that's nothing too special, especially if it just gets a huge boost to Atk and Spe, it will still be incredibly frail. I'd use it ingame though, Adaptability is pretty awesome.

I wouldn't be terrible surprised to see Beedrill getting Megahorn added to its move pool. That, plus Poison stab, most likely improved Atk/Spe, decent coverage moves, and Adapatability will make it usable.

God damn, this was a really cool thing to look at when I got home after school and walking on crutches all day. Glad to see Pidgeot and Beedrill getting love with those sexy megas.

Wonder what the next few days will bring us (considering something extra is always translated later and all...). Think they could also reveal movepool updates like they did with Lopunny or nah?

I know GF has broken a lot of precedents up until now, but I'm positive they're not changing the mega evolution boost just yet. After all, it's not like they're deliberately doing stuff just to defy our expectations, even though pretty much every revelation after ORAS announcement has been from slightly surprising to utterly unbelievable. They're just trying to make ORAS an amazing game and, quite honestly, they're doing it right. Also, it's not because some mechanics changed that every single one will. And I don't see why they'd change the mega evolution boost, given that it's a brand-new mechanic that has proven to be somewhat balanced, especially when it isn't accompanied by a crazy ability like in the case of the megas that ended up banned.

Well supposedly this issue came with the code from the demo so it might have some info about that. Though I doubt it'll say much being the demo is going to be released in 5 days.

And I don't think we'll know about any hinted movepool changes until the site updates with the new Mega Evolutions. However my guess is that for Mega Pidgeot they'll point out No Guard + Hurricane while for Mega Beedrill they'll probably show X-Scissor/Poison Jab or another move of the like to tell about Adaptability increasing its Power. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if they used Twineedle since it was Beedrill's Signature Move in Gen I.

I'm super all for the theory that Hoopa is the reason behind the fantasy islands that pastgen legends can be found at. I completely forgot about him until everyone started getting all analytical (also it was 5am when I saw CoroCoro and I couldn't figure out why the gen4/5 dragons were popping out of warp gates/wormholes)
Makes him less of a "gen6 legendary" and more of just a legendary that appeared in gen6 if he's integral to that bit of gameplay.

More on the islands, I'm willing to bet they have some kind of either time-of-day mechanic, randomized puzzles plus a legendary at the end, or a series of potential downloads that unlocks each legend.
And no matter what, the last legendary you get by visiting the island is always Hoopa.
Please, GF, make one of your event legends cool. I don't like just having to pick them up at the PokeCenter ;-;

Yeah, would be cool if they gave us a small adventure to go through to catch the Event Legendary. They even have places set up for it like Chamber of Emptiness and the locked Power Plant doors.

Do you guys remember how Alakazam got a +10 boost to its Special Defense in the transition from BW to XY and how it only gets a +90 BST increase upon Mega Evolving? I think the same thing will happen to Pidgeot because it got a +10 increase in Speed from BW to XY... I hope this isn't the case because Pidgeot needs every point it can get.

We already went over this a couple pages back. Mega Ampharos also gets a +10 Defense increase and it got the full 100 points with it's mega, so it was probably a mistake for Mega Alakazam.

NEW STUFF!

First off confirmation of Mega Rayquaza appearing in the Mega Evolution Special ~Act 2~. Also FINALLY some official artwork:

Second is we got the new PokeNav! It's now called the MultiNavi and has four functions: MapNavi, TVNavi, PlayNavi (which has Pokemon-Amie & GTS), & DexNavi (it helps find Pokemon in the wild. Remember when we saw Brendan sneaking up on that Pikachu? Apparently this is this function at work). Serebii has more info.

I'll give my opinions in this later.
