Hi! If you wish to have advice for competitive battling, you can sign up for Battling 101 and be paired with a tutor depending on your signup time. If you feel you might not be able to commit to that, the Miscellanous Info thread contains a list of mentors; ask them (I happen to be one of them) if you have any doubts! Feel free to call me Amb. cx My girlfriend only just got me into pokemon recently and she's been battling competitively for a while. After a few playthroughs of ORAS on my 3DS I figured I'd try it out. As such, I'm a complete and utter noob. xD I am come to learn, and since I noticed the handy little tutoring function on this site, I figured it would be a nice place to start. I go by Amberblaze on PS, if any of you would like to battle. I've got a long way to go, though, lol

Nice that you decided to join! Since you already know your way around, all I'll say is just find some sections of the forums you like and get involved. In addition, visit some of the rooms in Showdown, such as the "OverUsed", "NeverUsed", and "UnderUsed" rooms, if you would like to learn more about them or just chat with other players. If you need help, PM a mentor; otherwise, have a good time!

Welp, been lurking around for a while. Decided it was time to stop. Been playing Pokemon for years, but stopped for a while and missed Gens IV and V. Bought my first game in many years with Y, and recently acquired Alpha Sapphire. Got introduced to competitive battling in Gen VI completely by accident, but I really enjoy the challenge it brings. I'm pretty busy with uni and such, but I do enjoy playing a game or two occasionally. Hope to be around more often, so hi to everyone :)

Welcome! Good to see Briyella's bringing people to Smogon :) What areas of Smogon are you interested in? Or has Briyella told you all about everything? If not, have a look at our stickies to find out a bit more about the community! Have fun here anyways and don't be afraid to give feedback on Smogon in the feedback forum on the side of this forum!
Hey welcome! You should go back and play BW it's pretty good (and one of my fav games, but gen 4 sux don't bother with that imo). c: What ares of the forum are you interested in? If there's something in specific you haven't seen while you've lurked definitely take a look at the help form we have so Smogon is... easier to fit into other than just what you see when lurking! Don't forget to give feedback on Smogon in the community feedback after you've been here for a while too, we desire feedback! Welcome anyways. :) Have fun here~
Hi everybody ! I'm Mamba and I am a 14 - year - old student living in India. I played pokemon since Emerald released (I think) and played it ever since. I got into Competitive Battling recently and discovered Smogon while finding pokemon movesets through google :P. I play PS! frequently (mainly OU and Ubers) and am looking to improve. I also like anime like Naruto and DBZ, and I also like food :P

Hi all, I'm new to the forums but been playing competitive for a few years now. I still remember playing against some really good players like Fakes and Kevin Garrett on PO during DPP OU hahaha :) Mostly active on Showdown nowadays with a few alts. Smogon is probably the best Pokemon community out there so I figured it was time to hop in!

Well, I guess now is a better of time than never. I'm Travis. I used to be into pokemon when I was 10-14ish. I'm now of the age of 17 turning 18 in November. My favorite Pokemon has to be Latias, inspired from the movie Pokemon Heroes.

Hello lovely people of Smogon! My name is Patrick, I'm 15 and I am interested in getting into Pokemon competitive battling! This post is long (maybe too long) so if you have time please give this post a look!
I got into Pokemon through Platinum back in 2009. The pokemon I can remember being on my team were Infernape, Garchomp, Bronzong and Crobat. The rest is kind of a blur. It was around this time that I started watching the competitive wifi battles. I only really watched them for fun though. Then I got a copy of Soul Silver the following year or so later. This one really piqued my interest. After I beat Red, however, I just dropped the idea of playing Pokemon continuously. Forgot why. But around two months ago I thought about getting back in the habit and picked up my Heart Gold and Platinum copies. I was so excited to play, I planned my teams for both games! Once I got to the Battle Frontier in Platinum I felt I would do so well with just my ingame, non-EV trained and all that team of Electivire, Magmortar, Rhyperior, Togekiss, Empoleon and Dusknoir. Wishful thinking, right? I love my Electivire but I couldn't even get past the 2nd batch of seven matches with him (and my Magmortar and Togekiss I think) That's when I thought about going to the Battle Factory to train and heading on over there. I'm still playing there too! But the thing is I suck SO BAD. NO KIDDING. ITS DIFFICULT FOR ME TO EVEN GET PAST THE FIRST MATCH AGAINST FACTORY HEAD THORTON. Even with fuckin rental Salamence and Garchomp I get stomped into the ground constantly. My strategies are shit, even if I have type coverage. Every time there is always an obvious counter to my team I can never predict. Why get into competitive battling in the first place I ask myself. Well, honestly, the competitive scene looks like one hell of a good time to me. I recognize that it will take a long time for me to build up my skills, possibly even with assistance, and become a legitimate competitive battler but I'm just really interested about diving into the competitive scene. The ingame part of Pokemon gets boring after a while anyway. You may have noticed that I am only talking about 4th gen games. Before I get XYORAS, I hope to be able to conquer all parts of the 4th gen battle frontier first and what better way to try to achieve that is with help from experts! Now I must warn you that I have never Ev-trained or bred pokemon for perfect stats and natures and all that so I literally am new to competitive battling. But enough about me. Any offers to help me get started or give any suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yeah, out of Generation 4, Soul Silver was my favorite. :) I never EV train or breed competitive Pokemon ingame; I prefer to just "go with the flow", I guess. You can get assistance with improving your competitive skills by PMing a mentor here on Smogon or visit the "Competitive Tutoring" room in Showdown. If you need any other help, go here. Have fun!
