So I have been playing Pokemon for years (Crystal and Ruby are tied as my two favorites), but I have never really gotten into competitive battling. So I figured why not try a little of it? I downloaded Showdown on my computer, tried some stuff, watched some videos and other battles, and this is the team I came up with. Any help would be great, but so far it is working and I am winning half to two thirds of my battles on Showdown.
Sylveon
Item: Quick Claw
Ability: Pixilate
Moves: Moonblast, Hyper Voice, Protect, Heal Bell
Stat Set: Calm nature with 216Hp/40SpAtk/252SpDef
I tried Azumarrill for a while, but it wasn't getting me the firepower I wanted out of a fairy type. Sylveon has the SpDef I wanted plus the awesome SpAtk. Quick claw lets it go first occasionally, which is really nice considering its speed is only base 60.
Thundurus
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
Moves: Volt Switch, Thunderpunch, Sky Drop, U-Turn
Stat Set: Hasty nature with 252Ak/4SpAtk/252Spe
I have never been a huge lengendary fan for use on my teams, but man Thundurus has some cool features to him. I love the ground immunity, and I have always been a big Electric type fan. Life Orb is great, but the downside is the extra damage during battle, which can come around to bite me late game and he is low on health. The move set and stat set is pretty self explanatory. The reason I have both Volt Switch and U-Turn is in case i need to switch him out, and there happens to be a ground type/bug resistant type on the field.
Machamp
Item: Coba Berry
Ability: No Guard
Moves: Dynamicpunch, Dual Chop, Protect, Bullet Punch
Stat Set: Adamant with 248Hp/252Atk/8SpDef
I have never used Machamp in the main games, but I might after learning of his No Guard ability. That with Dynamicpunch is great. I know he can be a little frail sometimes, but with the Hp EV spread, he gets some bulk. That with the Coba Berry helps with the flying types which I have notices are much more prevalent in the OU than Psychics. Dual Chop makes him a Dragon threat, while Bullet Punch gives a dual purpose Fairy threat/priority option.
Arcanine
Item: Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
Moves: Flare Blitz, Extreme Speed, Cruch, Bulldoze
Stat Set: Adamant with 252Atk/4SpDef/252Spe
I love Arcanine. He is one of my favorite Fire types. And he works pretty well I think in the OU game. Intimidate helps with the overwhelming amount of Physical Attack users. Flare blitz (duh) and Extreme Speed (also duh) are great and I use them all the time. Crunch and Bulldoze are just accessory moves. The item I still am not sold on, but I haven't thought of what would be a good replacement. The stat spread I hope is obvious.
Ferrothorn
Item: Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
Moves: Seed Bomb, Gyro Ball, Protect, Spikes
Stat Set: Relaxed with 248Hp/32Atk/228Def
This guy is cool. His typing gives him lots of resistances (except fire, which is bad). Rocky Helmet and Iron Barbs punishes physical attackers. Seed Bomb and Gyro Ball are its two attacking moves, which takes care of the water types and the rock/ground types which are my teams main weaknesses (or used to be, I've changed it a bit). Stat spread is obvious, but I did take a little away from defense and invested it in attack just to get a bit more firepower. I noticed it wasn't doing the damage I wanted to the Fairy types with Gyro Ball.
Swampert
Item: Swamperite
Ability: Torrent
Moves: Waterfall, Earthquake, Ice Punch, Hammer Arm
Stat Set: Adamant with 248Hp/252Atk/8SpDef
Swampert is my all time favorite and has been since I got my Ruby version back in...well never mind that. His typing allows him to resist/take neutral damage to many types. Grass types just suck a lot. He is also my Mega Pokemon, who gets a gigantic power boost from it. I wish he had a more useful nature, but oh well. Move Set is obvious, and covers his grass weakness just in case as well as a Dragon and Flying check and takes care of the dark types that are so often used also. Stat set takes advantage of his bulky and powerful base stats.
I really tried to create a team that could take care of major OU threats, as well as being balanced type-wise. I have a resistance to just about every type (I think) and no more than two weaknesses per type. To me, typing is and always has been extremely important. Anyway, let me know what you all think, and any advice would be so greatly appreciated. Like I said, the team is winning a majority of the time, but I always think it can be better.
Thanks!
