Pokemon Data Cards

Yes, I know smogon is the data base for heaps of poke-data, but just for kicks I thought I'd spruce it up a bit. I used the Wizard's of the coast pokemon card format to document a pokemon or two, and this is my most pleasing format I came up with so far.

The EV spread could be debated I suppose. For fun I checked out Smogon's Gliscor Page and saw they used a more straightforward spread, but Meh.

So tell me what you think. If possible, Explain whats wrong and what I should do to fix it. Ive created a file which allows me to manipulate everything very well (in fact, it calulates the LV 100 stats FOR ME, and i checked, it matches, at least in this case).

I like the stats at LV100 for the specific Pokemon thing at the bottom. Can be helpful to know those things when comparing speed especially for specific EV spreads.

Pokemon Power should probably be the ability (Sand Veil) with the description at the bottom being a description of the set.

Perhaps editing a current pokemon card would work better? At the moment the info is good, but the background and boarder need something more.

Ya, I definatly agree the the backround and boarder need work. I used the same color, but the texture just isnt half is good looking as the real thing. I think I'll try to pull them off a realy good picture of a card.

As to the pokemon Power... Well, Everyone knows what abilitys do, so I just figured Id use the power section for a breif MS summary. What your saying does indeed make more sense, though, because ability is similar to poke-power. I guess Id have to kill the pokedex with your way, but thats no big loss, lol.

"you're" is spelled wrong in the Rock Polish description. And I'd like it more if the move descriptions actually, you know, described the moves, instead of trying to be funny.

^_^

By Move descriptions, what do you mean?

Earthquake: 100 PWR / 100 ACC / GRD TYPE
OR
Earthquake: Powerful STAB attack used to semi-sweep if you have no one to pass to.

Ya, the last one was over the top, but theres just no much to say about the single most used physical attack...

Both, kinda... maybe if there were a little box on the right side that had power, accuracy, and type, and the text would be that sort of description... Like,

Code:
-----
|100|
-----
|100|
-----

With a light brown background to indicate the ground type.

I don't need it since I've memorized everything competitive about every Pokemon that matters, but that could definitely be a good idea to help newer players learn about competitive Pokemon in an interesting manner. I don't get the Earthquake being a coin flip thing, though.

Oh shoot. I GTG for a while. One last question for you guys.

You think Made up (often joke) pokedexs would be fine? I wouldnt mind Airing my anger about TTar in a pokedex...

I suppose in gliscors case I could do:

Gliscor's face is so frightening it can scare even the toughest of men.
Many trainers shy away from using it out of disdane.

(If you cant tell, I hate gliscors looks...)

Pokemon Power should probably be the ability (Sand Veil) with the description at the bottom being a description of the set.

I agree.

The main problem I see with actually making a pokedex filled with these besides the obvious making of each individual image is that this only allows for one moveset and one EV spread. This means any pokemon with more than one set needs more than one card. But it's a nifty/cool looking idea none the less.

Personally, I don't think that flavor text belongs on competitive stuff like this at all. They just may influence newer players to get the wrong impression about a Pokemon's competitive capabilities.

No offence, but the actual LOOK is hideous. By the way, do not enlarge sprites for the image box, if you are experiencing problems try using a sugimori art.

Try using aragornbirds drawings (www.arkeis.com) for the images - they are much better than the standard sprites.

If pokemon have two abilities you need a space to say which ones to use and the pokedex descriptions are a waste of space.

"No offence, but the actual LOOK is hideous"

Ouch... My Pride ^_^

You mean because of the boarder & backround, right? otherwise I realy like it pretty much... I tried to rip a card boarder, but I havent done well yet, and as for backrounds do you basicaly want a more textured color rather than a plain one?

Since these things are made to look neat, I have to make em look neat!

I suppose the Pokedex is out, and the description will move down their, Then Ill use better Pokemon Pictures... Hmmm... I'll re-work Charizard real quick...

I picked a happy Charizard ^_^
Erased the Dex, Added Ability discussion.

Nice job! That's a really clever way to keep track of individual Pokes and movesets, certainly a big step up from the excel spreadsheets and .txt files that make up most people's notes.

A few suggestions:
#1. List base stats, EV spread and L100 stats all on the one table (the one on the top left). That way you save space and all the data relevant to statistics are in the one spot.
#2. Might be worth including PP if you can squeeze it in. There's a bit of boilerplate you could possibly take out.
#3. In the box down the bottom, perhaps a few damage calculations for common scenarios would be helpful if these cards are to act as a quick reference.
#4. If you make cards for individual movesets, which is probably the best use for these, you can delete the "Ability 2" section and put Held Item + Nature at the top.
