General Introduce yourself!

Hi, i'm Evan from Italy
New on Smogon forum but competitive player since DPP
My favourite tier is OU and i'm glad to be here.
Hey OSAMUK BIN LADEN!
Welcome to Smogon! Be sure to visit the "OverUsed" room in Showdown and its subforum here at Smogon to get involved. Have fun!

Hello, everyone! I am SmellyCat, an 18-year-old female from Texas. I've always loved Pokemon since I was a little munchkin, and while I'm a frequent guest on the Smogon website when I need info on a particular 'mon, today is the first day of my official Smogon account! I want to try my luck on the competitive battling side, but at this point I'm a n00b, so any advice is welcome. :)

Hi folks,

I've been playing pokemon since I saved up my allowance for a copy of Version Red (an embarrassingly long time ago). I usually lurk on Smogon threads that throw around ideas for team building, EV spreads, etc.. I know very few people IRL who are interested in the game, so it's always nice to get outside opinions on strategy. My primary interest is in playing with my actual game cartridges (e.g. Battle Spot competitions). I occasionally play on Showdown, but generally just to test ideas before I go through the trouble of breeding pokemon in-game. Typically I build teams based on aesthetics or gimmicks that I'm fond of, but these teams rarely hold their own. I'm here to sharpen my competitive skills, and possibley check out the tutoring program.

You can talk to Spydreigon to get involved as a writer with The Smog. Yes, you can choose your own topics, so long as they are within the regulations. Spydreigon can give you more information on the rest of the process. As for the "gimmick league", it's because only sometimes people use gimmicks, just for fun. Making a gimmick tier wouldn't really make it as fun as it is, I guess. Good luck with The Smog!

Hi harri2000!
I also started playing Pokemon (competitively) this generation. I started playing Pokemon in general a little while after Generation 3, though. Check out our Battling 101 (Tutoring Program) for some great advice on competitive battling. Have a good time!
Thanks for the message, and I gotta see these advices! o/

What do you do when you start to hate pokemon? It feels like every single game I get into I make plays that I am confident in but somehow my opponent comes out on top due to the rng. All the teams look the exact same and every battle is frustrating. I don't know whether to take a break or just quit altogether. I've only been on smogon for about a month but I've been playing on showdown for about a year and some change. I'd like to think I'm pretty good because I've cracked the top 50 in nu and uu, and I've been in the mid 1700s for ou.
Hi RoseColoredCampusLife!
Hate? Pokemon? D: I don't like seeing generic cliche teams, so I try to make creative sets. I feel it makes the game more interesting. Don't start to hate Pokemon just because some users are just starting to improve their skills. :o Top 50 isn't bad at all, and 1700s is way higher than I've ever gotten. :/ Check out the "Over/Under/NeverUsed" rooms have you not already, but I think you already have. It looks like you are already settled in, so just have fun!

Hello bumblebeelzebub!
Huh, I for one think almost all my friends play Pokemon. Wait a minute. Friends? What are those? I don't breed for competitive-ready Pokemon in-game. :p I just see where the game takes me, I guess. I also build gimmick teams, but I save the aesthetic teams for in-game. Have a good time, and good luck with the Tutoring Program!

Also guys, please give us your feedback sometime soon. Thank you!

I don't think that will come in 'gimmick' because gimmick means something which works exceptionally well, but only in certain scenarios, and you require certain tricks to make that work. Just for example, having a Scolipede hold a mental herb, with Iron Defense and baton pass to a Calm Mind + Stored Power Espeon. This trick works sometimes, but in most of the cases it won't. That's what we call gimmick. I clearly don't see any instance where a special Machamp will go on a sweep. That's more of a troll league than gimmick league.

Well, then troll league it is then =P.

Seriously though, I've always thought that if we reversed/banned common sets/whatever with most Pokemon it could potentially make the game much more diverse. Heck, Rose above flat-out stated the major flaw of the tiers and the Pokemon games in general. I think there's, what 50 Pokemon on the OU tier, right? Out of 719 (minus a few due to lack of legit catch methods)?! Unacceptable, and I can't be the only one who feels that way. My solution to this; ban all Pokemon from the common sets/Niches and watch as the OU tier of this league grows. Who's with me?

hi guys,

i am sand1234 from india and have been playing pokemon on emulators form abt 6 years back.i started playing on the competitive platform only in gen 6 after aegis ban;late xy.i play mostly on ps and my fav tiers are ou,ubers and smogon doubles.i also take part in many tours held in the tours room.so thats abt me

Hi all, I'm Sixpence and hopefully I'm here to stay. I've been lurking Smogon for a few years and my friend got me back into the competitive world. I adore the first two generations of Pokemon and had a harder time adjusting to designs after those two. After playing every game except BW, I'm enjoying the changes in XY. Skipping ORAS as I'll wait for the next Pokemon. I will most likely be attending to the RMT forum to learn and give advice. Still getting a few Pokemon's typing down like Mandibuzz.

Aside from Pokemon I'm catching up on Orphan Black and usually reading a book.

Hey there, good to see more people getting more active. And whoa, #100 on the OU ladder is prettttty rad. I might ask you to RMT sometime. Maybe we could also battle sometime. See you around :)

Hello! I'm Donye!

I have been playing Pokemon since R/B/Y and I have finally decided I'm going to give the Pokedex a damned good go. (I'm not one to 100% something in life, ever lol) I've been able to almost complete my ORAS Pokedex which I'm pretty happy about and have an arsenal of prior Gen games to help me out. I have finally conquered the brain busting EV and IVs and even bred a few 5IV Pokes of my own which is a HUGEEEE achievement for a noob like me! I enjoy watching TwitchPlaysPokemon, playing the games on my 3DS, watching competitive Pokemon Battles and generally talking and reading about Pokemon, hence why I am here :) I want to learn more about Pokemon at Smogon and aim to watch more (and occasionally) participate in Pokemon Showdown!

Thanks for reading!

Hello! Brand new smogonite here.

Spoiled myself and bought pokemon AS for Christmas, and I've been addicted ever since. I'm looking to start building a competitive team, then start breaking into the online competitive scene (traveling for tournaments sadly isn't an option for me).

I'm looking for people to play with, to train with, and to trade with! :D

my Friend Code is: 2337 - 5855 - 1326 add me!

Also, if I were say, looking for someone to loan/trade me a Speed Boost Torchic/Blaziken, where would I go to post about that?

Hi Grownmanproblems!
Becoming a Pokemon master is one of my side-goals of being the very best! Where would you like to start contributing? If you have any questions, ask here for now or check out the Questions threads. Have fun!
I actually do have one, where would I find the explanation for the tier structure of XY tiers?

Hey guys, my name is Lee and I'm new here. I'm a senior at Mississippi State University and will graduate in the spring. I love Adventure Time, Regular Show, and tabletop games (Munchkin ftw).

I have played Pokemon since RBY and played casually through BW1. I'm trying to start playing again (waiting until my local GameStop gets more New 3DS XL systems in, which should be by this Thursday) and am planning to buy both Pokemon Y and Alpha Sapphire. After I play through both story modes casually (this will probably take ~2 months for me), I want to delve into the world of competitive battling. I have a lot to learn but I'm optimistic about it and hope to eventually join the tutoring program you guys offer.

Through Smogon, I'm hoping to make a few friends, learn a lot, and become successful in the world of competitive battling.

Hey amateursuperhero, and welcome to Smogon! You've got a nice long history with Pokemon, so you should fit in very well here.

If you end up needing any help with mentoring or tutoring, just let me know and I can point you in the right direction.
