It's been a long time (almost a full year) since my last RMT, and that's honestly a real shame. I used to love making RMTs back in BW, but now I feel like none of my teams are consistent enough for me to make an entire RMT for them. This is the first team I've built in a while that, with proper play, has been the most fun/enjoyable team I've made that remains solid even against good players. That's not to say it doesn't have its flaws (it obviously does, and I'll address them later down the page), but it's flaws are somewhat easily mitigated as long as you are aware of them and play accordingly.

I wanted to build a team around Serperior, since it's been one of my favorite Pokemon design-wise since it came out. However, most of the teams I built with Serperior before have always struggled with the fact that its counters are so common and splashable. Heatran is on a lot of teams, and it's a full stop to Serperior. Same with Talonflame and such. I wanted to create a team that wouldn't have much trouble with these Pokemon, especially Heatran.

Suicune makes for a really cool partner to Serperior. It appreciates special walls being worn down, switches into Heatran without fear because of Rest, and can also take on Talonflame provided Suicune isn't asleep. But having a perfect switch-in to Heatran wouldn't be enough to actually take it down.

Special Mega Altaria is one of my favorite Pokemon at the moment. Everyone I've played against seems to automatically assume it's the DD set (I've never really liked DD Altaria; it's too weak for my taste), and freely switch in their Ferrothorn or Landorus-T. And even if they do notice that Altaria is special, I've only had a handful of Heatran switch out fearing EQ. Most just stay in and let me weaken them. That makes it a fantastic partner for Serperior, as well as checking Dragons that can switch into Serperior relatively easily.

I added Hippo because I noticed the team was a bit weak to the common elecrict types in the tier, namely Thundurus, Raikou, and Mega Manectric. And while NP HP Ice Thundurus can still be annoying, Hippo does a pretty decent job checking it. Hippo is also a really solid go-to answer for Mega Lopunny, Talonflame, and Mega Metagross lacking Grass Knot.

Trapper Tran is super fun to use, and helps me beat stall teams more easily, being able to trap Chansey and other special walls, as well as trapping bulky Waters, ensuring Serperior gets a free switch. Either that, or Heatran wears them down to a point where Suicune can sweep later. It's also a secondary check to Lati@s and Clefable, which the team needs.

Finally, I noticed the team could have trouble against setup sweepers, some fairies, and offense in general. SD Excadrill is the bane of all offense, since they usually rely on Scarf Lando-T to beat it, which is easy to wear down with LO Iron Head. I thought about providing rapid spin support, but I don't think the team needs it as much as it likes having a physical cleaner.

Serperior @ Life Orb
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 29 HP / 30 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Dragon Pulse
- Giga Drain
Serperior is criminally underrated for how good it is. And I think the main reason behind that is simply due to the prevalence to Heatran, its number one counter. However, it's still an incredible Pokemon, easily sweeping through unprepared teams. Basically, if you don't have a Heatran, Dragonite, or Talonflame, you don't have much that can switch into this monster. Leaf Storm is obviously to hit hard as well as raise Serperior's special attack. Hidden Power Fire hits Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor, which can be annoying otherwise. Dragon Pulse hits Latios and Latias after a Leaf Storm boost, as well as Dragonite, but it can pick Serp off with Espeed. Finally, Giga Drain helps recover health, especially against stall teams where Leaf Storm's low PP and LO recoil can really take its toll. Glare can also be used here, but it makes fighting stall a bit harder.

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 240 HP / 228 Def / 24 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Suicune is another Pokemon I don't really see much of. It's most likely due to the rise in Sub CM Keldeo, which totally shits on Suicune. But since Serperior eats Keldeo for breakfast, it's not a real issue for this team. Suicune is the main answer I have for Heatran, as well as being a nice secondary check to Lopunny and Metagross. After a +1 boost, GK Metagross can't win unless it gets lucky with Zen Headbutt switches and avoids Scald burns. Unless stall teams have a Clear Smog Amoonguss or some kind of Water Absorb mon, Suicune can win pretty much every time. Thanks to TDK for the spread n_n

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 158 SpA / 4 SpD / 100 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Roost
What an incredibly fun Pokemon to use. Pokemon that come in, hit hard, and leave are my absolute favorite to use. I loved Banded Dragonite in BW for that exact reason. Altaria is crucial, as it's the sturdiest Dragon check on the team, being able to take on the Latis and Dragonite pretty well after mega evolving. Hyper Voice hits very hard, even without max SpA. Fire Blast is great for those who assume Altaria is physical and switch in Ferrothorn, or those who think they can get a free SD with Scizor. Finally, EQ makes Altaria a pretty reliable Heatran lure if I absolutely need one.

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide / Whirlwind
- Slack Off
- Stealth Rock
Hippowdon has to be one of my favorite walls right now. It's amazing how much its usage and viability fluctuated during the course of the generation, but at the moment it's pretty damn useful. It checks just about every physical attacker, provides SR while also having access to reliable recover, meaning it generally outlasts most spinners/Defoggers. Rock Slide is pretty important for my team, as it prevents Talonflame and Pinsir from setting up and sweeping in a last-mon situation. But Whirlwind has also saved my butt on numerous occasions when I've used it. Anyway, Hippo is my answer to most electric types, and the spread lets it avoid the 2HKO from LO Thundy's HP Ice always.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 192 HP / 252 SpA / 64 Spe
Modest Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Toxic
The bane of stall himself, Trapper Heatran is awesome, wearing down even resists to Magma Storm thanks to the increased damage it causes this gen. Taunt prevents walls from recovering or setting up. Toxic is good for switch-ins if I don't want to stay in on them (think Garchomp). And Earth Power makes it another good lure for Heatran. People see Leftovers/Taunt/Toxic and automatically assume it's Sdef Tran. At that point, I can usually take them out with a well-timed EP. This is my secondary check to Lati and my primary Clefable answer.

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Swords Dance
Finally, we have Excadrill. SD Excadrill is super fun to use, and although it does hate the rise in Gliscor and Hippo usage, they are easily handled by other members of my team, so it's not a huge issue. Excadrill checks setup sweepers like Altaria and Charizard X, while also being an amazing cleaner against offensively inclined teams. at +2 and with a LO boost, there's not much that enjoys taking an EQ or Iron Head to the face. Adamant is nice for power, but I also like Jolly for opposing Excadrill and in case I royally screw up and let something like Altaria or Charizard get to +2.

I'm only putting the biggest most dire threats here because I'm lazy and also because other things are usually easy to play around.

Kyurem-B has to be the biggest threat to the team. If it gets a sub up on Hippowdon, I'm done. And since I usually need to save Hippo in order to get sand up for Excadrill to sweep, I can't really stay in and risk using Rock Slide or Whirlwind. Thankfully it's a relatively uncommon mon since Greninja was banned.

Gengar is an amazing Pokemon right now. Thankfully it's usually on offense, which means Excadrill shouldn't have too much trouble against it. I usually have to pray that it isn't the sub/wisp set, but if it is, then Altaria can somewhat handle it. Still a massive pain to deal with.

I'm not sure why people don't use this often, but it certainly fucks me up pretty easily. If I let it get a sub up there's not really much I can do. +1 Gyara beats Altaria 1v1, and it obviously beats Excadrill if it's behind a sub. I basically have to try my hardest to not let it set up a sub, and then I'm good. Mega Gyara is straight fucked by Altaria so it's not as big of an issue as regular.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read and respond to this RMT. I really miss doing them and rating teams myself so I might get back into it if I have the time. Unfortunately I'm super busy with school and work and life in general, so I wouldn't get your hopes up :c But this team has been a lot of fun to use! Feel free to steal it, I don't really mind. Hopefully you have as much fun with it as I do.
