Machamp just used what?

As stated more then enough times (I'm going to say it anyway), this is nothing really special, with the exception of No Guard. Although decent looking by the numbers you ran, this is nothing to get too worked up about. Also, why would you even post this? Everyone who posted "The best part about this is...no one will ever see it coming!" ... Maybe if you hadn't posted it, prehaps, now...no.

So you basically just killed the best part about it, the suprise factor.

I agree 100 % with this quote, Fire Blast on a physical sweeper was always seen in advance, and although No Guard makes it a little better then usual, its still nothing speclal.

I say you might want to Split the Defense EVs with Special Attack EVs, I like idea, though. No guard means it doesn't miss, the Extra EVs I assume will Assure a Skarmory's Death, so you don't get fucked by Drill peck/Brave Bird.

With 252 in SpAtk and Life Orb it's still a 2HKO 80% of the time, so it's better to spend the EVs in HP and Defense.

This set would work best if you keep it a secret until you see most of their team, or a definate counter to the regular Machamp (Skarm), and then switch it in once something is KOd or on something that will run (Blissey). Then, just use whichever move would be super-effective against their most-likely counter.

Heeeeeeey how'd this topic get so many posts? Jeebus.

Did I walk into the GSC forum or something? Fire Blast on Machamp? Machamp doesn't even have that big a problem with the pokémon damaged calced. Between confusion and exposing its weakness when Roosting, Skarmory isn't a problem at all. It'd be okay for Forretress, but Forretress isn't THAT common. Scizor takes enough damage from Dynamicpunch and the rest aren't packing recovery anyway. The better switch-ins, such as Gliscor or Gyarados, are stuff already taken care of by Ice Punch and/or Stone Edge.

Its biggest weakness is lack of PP, but nothing will fix that except using a second Fighting attack. Losing Leftovers for the goofy Expert Belt (or esp. Life Orb, which item are the damage calcs using anyway?) really hinders one of the best things Machamp does, wall T-Tar and eat Rock attacks. And I know the last slot is somewhat "filler," but you can still put it to good use with something more conventional -- Bullet Punch, Payback, Bulk Up, Counter, Light Screen, Encore...

I'm fully aware that everything from Aerodactyl to Tauros uses Fire Blast to try and get around Skarmory, but in Loetke's defence, Fire Blast is not mentioned at all in the D/P Machamp analysis.

As a regular Machamp user myself, I find that the first switch is usually to Dusknoir/other ghost or Slowbro, so I like to use Payback. In my mind, those are the two best counters to 'Champ. I have had very few problems with the likes of Skarm, Forry, Bronzong etc as they take massive amounts of damage from Dynamic Punch and the confusion costs them their ability to stall. I've saw the above three threats 2HKO'd by DynamicPunch too. Those three could also be fucked up by Encore in a rather comedic fashion.

It could lead to some interesting mindgames though, with Skarmory attempting to Roost off FB whilst you lose health due to the Life Orb, whilst Machamp attempts to DynamicPunch him on the right turn.

I'm not a big fan of Life Orb either tbh. When an opponent uses it against me, I usually find a way to stall them to death with prediction or at least weaken them to the point where they can be OHKO'd by a faster Pokemon. The only things that can really abuse it, imo, are fast, mixed sweepers and Machamp is certainly not one of them. For that reason, I'd use the goofy Expert Belt (Those four moves hit eleven types super effective so it's not too bad of a trade). Or Leftovers, of course.

Anyway, it can certainly come in useful, but is it really worth the moveslot? I guess that would depend on whether your team REALLY needs a fire attack. If it does, then you could do a lot worse than Machamp to be fair.

I ran Cross Chop/Earthquake/Rock Slide/Fire Blast in ADV for my Machamp, and it's good to see Fire Blast Macham lives on.

I'd definitely use Expert Belt over Life Orb on this set, otherwise I don't see what advantage this has over Guts/Flame Orb Ursaring, who already has far fewer counters than Machamp and also has more firepower. The one major downside is the durability, but Machamp will also encounter that problem if it carries Life Orb, whilst at the same time being susceptible to sleep, burn, poison etc.
In summary then, I agree with Lee. Expert Belt is the item of choice.

People keep saying that, but I have -never- seen a Skarmory use it. Obviously someone's using it though.
it was recently added to the anaylisis of skarm as a way to deal with gyra
i came in here expecting no gaurd Focus Blast champ.

but this seems like and ok idea
LOL, I thought that too.

I support this set, undertrickroom, a machamp could fire blast skarm as it atempts to BB or drillpeck it, then before skarm can recover machamp kills him. Obvious counters here are the stuff that gives machamp the most problems, dusknoir, spiritomb, ghost types in general, but I still like this set.

HEY WTF. this is my idea =(

except mine is Quiet nature w/ Sub, and about 180 SP ATK evs.

i know i used it twice here at smogon, but i don't think i battled gin with it anyway.

yes, that has already been established ._.

as of it being used in competitive battling, i actually do use it, and it's been effective.
