ORAS UU So Fab

It is common knowledge that Mega Ampharos is the most fabulous pokemon in existence. Despite its appearance, people seem to refuse to use it as it is one of the most uncommon megas in the tier (tfw 47th most used in 1760 stats). Featuring great resists, bulk, SpA, and access to the broken Volt Switch, it is a mystery as to why. So, I tried building a team with it to see if it really is shit. The result is the following team which I think is my best I have (not saying much lol). Anyway, here is the squadron:

The team begin with Ampharos + Crobat. They form a solid VoltTurn core while defensively covering some of each other's weaknesses. Crobat resists Fairy and Ground, Ampharos resists nothing that kills Bat lol but that's what other team members are for.

Gatr was added since wallbreakers work great with VoltTurn, and most of Amphy's switch ins are fat special walls or Ground types. Gatr threatens all of them, including but not limited to Florges, Snorlax, Krook, Mamo, Defensive Pert somewhat, Nidos, Blissey and also overloads grasses like Whims.

I needed rocks, a dragon resist with offensive presence, Dark check, Mamo check etc so I threw a Cobalion. Literally on all my teams and is amazing.

I added Umbreon for Wish passing to Ampharos while also providing a decent Chandy, Hydra, Mence check while walling Nido which gets a kill every time it comes in on Ampharos. Fighting types became a huge problem since Umby gave them all free switches, and thus Bat was incredibly easy to overload. The final member of the team was then Slowking, which is one of Umbreon's best partners. Infernape, Cobalion, Lucario and Mienshao all use Umby for fodder but Slowking hardwalls them all. Shao can Knock Off, but they are usually scarf so I can protect and switch into Cobalion. Slowking also provides a very solid Suicune answer, only struggling with the shit CM Roar set.

ampharos-mega.gif

Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 124 HP / 252 SpA / 132 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Pulse
- Heal Bell
- Volt Switch

The main guy of the team. Everything is standard except for the Heal Bell slot. I chose Heal Bell over Focus Blast, HP Grass/Ice/Poison because I opted to not run Heal Bell on Umby, which thus makes me really weak to status spam. If I find Ampharos to be useless or get a free turn, I can heal my Toxic/Burned Umbreon or Slowking which is nice. I use the max SpA set over PhysDef because PhysDef Ampharos is absolute trash in a Victini-less, Jirachi-Less meta and the lack of power and Tbolt makes you lose to Suicune 1v1 LOL. Speed EVs creep Empolean which apparently likes to stay in a lot on Ampharos.

crobat.gif

Crobat @ Sky Plate
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 184 HP / 72 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Roost
- Defog

Crobat provides Defog support while being the main Fighting check. The attack EVs + Sky Pl8 OHKO Machamp (s/o to dodmen for the set), maximize speed, and the rest is poured into bulk. I first ran enough speed to creep Adamant Bee, but then I realized there is literally no reason to invest the extra 12 EVs to outspeed other Bats. Bat IMO is the best defogger in the tier, although others don't seem to agree. The speed it has over Salamence is invaluable, allowing an emergency Defog if need be while being able to RK Azelf, Espeon, and other stuff. The fairy resist is also clutch, which Mence only dreams of.

feraligatr.gif

Feraligatr @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Aqua Jet

SD Gatr is self-explanatory: come in on special walls from Volt Switch and click SD or Waterfall. I tried DD Gatr but the immediate power is too clutch and helps break Reuni which is a massive threat. Also, Aqua Jet lets me outspeed Mamo, Rotom-H, Krook, Aero etc so running SD makes the most sense. Gatr also ends up being my Gatr check in many games lol.

cobalion.gif

Cobalion @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Iron Head

Ah Cobalion. The most splashable mon in the tier. With Shuca berry, I get a one time free Switch into Mamo, Aero, and Krook while serving as a: Bee check, Kyurem check, soft Hydra check, ScarfMence check, Florges check, Aboma check, Lax check, Roserade check, Mandi check, etc. The Coba+Crobat core ensure Bee isn't doing much and keeps Crobat from taking too much chip damage from Rocks and U-turn.

umbreon.gif

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Taunt
- Foul Play

SpD Umbreon is the glue to this team. Wish keeps my team healthy while also serving as a pivot against Special threats like Hydreigon, SpecialMence, and Nidoqueen. Taunt is ran because Reuni is a huge threat and I can PP stall focus blast while avoiding a 2HKO. I chose Umbreon over Mandi because Wish support is invaluable, and Florges is weak to Nidos. Taunt has also been really clutch against defensive mons who think they can do their thing on Umbreon such as Snorlax, Porygon2, Blissey, Forry, Emp, and more.

Also, synchronizing scald burns :))))

slowking.gif

Slowking @ Mind Plate
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Def / 24 Spe
Bold Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off

I was first exposed to NP Slowking in a previous RMT of mine. jjoshcha suggested it and I have fallen in love with it since. Slowking is the glue^2 to this team. Fire types were a problem as they overwhelmed Amphy. Same with fighting types who got free turns off of Umbreon. Suicune was annoying if it got a free CM. So, NP Slowking was added. Mind Plate is the item of choice since it gives me the edge over Reuniclus in a Psyshock war. It also serves as a redundant check to so many things, such as Aero, Mamo (kinda), Kyurem, and Toxicroak

473.png
No switch ins besides Shuca Coba :(. Can never click Volt Switch with Amphy without sweating bullets because giving this free turns is a huge misplay.

579.png
Not that bad but a threat nonetheless. Gatr needs to stay healthy to revenge kill it, and Slowking can lure it in and set up on it.

675.png
Rare but massive threat. Forces a 50/50 every time it comes in and demolished the Slowking + Umbreon core.

635.png
Taunt Hydra denies Umbreon recovery and puts me in a bad position. Cobalion checks it and Bat outspeeds, but I can only sponge so many Dracos.

214.png
SD Hera also demolishes King + Umbreon. Bat checks it decently.

009.png
Mega Stoise is terrifying if it has Aura Sphere. Ampharos can 1v1 it, and Gatr can soften it.

Mega Swampert + DD Gatr are tough to deal with if they get a free setup. Gatr is my Gatr check and Slowking has just enough bulk to avoid a 2HKO from Swampert.

I get a lucky scald burn to remove Sharpedo as a threat. Slowking is the star hear, keeping Luc at bay while killing Mamo and Gatr.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-286127371
I sack Amphy early (huge misplay) but Gatr is able to break through the team after Taunt Umby lures Porygon2 and denies it recovery with Taunt.

That is all! Enjoy the team.

Just a few tweaks I would test drive if were to use this team, take em or leave em really.

I was going to suggest taunt on umby but then I saw you already have it, you my want a bit of speed creep for cune/florges if you think you can get away with a slightly lower hp/spdef investment.

Colbur on king could be invalueable at beating entie+krook cores without the standard prediction fuckery since king tends to win critwars with reun regardless. Ice beam seems like another viable option on king, with colbur it would let you beat up the standard tauntdrie's that love to swap in on king and could take a bit of pressure off of cobal. The loss of good ole100% burn is painful though.

Have you tested out stone edge on cobal over iron head? the loss of flinchwow may be worth not giving DD mence/spdecs chandy a free turn.

But yeah past that I got nothin, solid af balanced team man you even covered the standard.jpg bird weakness in a lot of UU teams.

All of these suggestions are great. Stone Edge especially sounds like a great way to lure Mence/Chandy since SubCM and Specs Chandeure is a massive threat (which I forgot to include on the threatlist).

I tried Colbur and it is a great item on King. I ended up choosing Mind Plate over it but I'm definitely not opposed to trying it again. Ice beam (over scald I presume) also sounds good although the loss of free burns and water stab makes me somewhat hesitant (will test it of course)

I'm thinking creeping Florges is a great idea. Suicune is iffy cause a lot of them run creep now but stopping CM Florges from setting up or healing is huge

Thanks for the suggestions!

This looks really solid, but I thought I would rate it nonetheless so here we go!
  • First off, I noticed while not in the threatlist that DD Gatr does a number to your team and it can set up pretty easily against most of your team. As such, I would suggest a physically defensive spread on Umbreon to better combat DD Gatr as well as still taunting stuff like Florges.
Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 248 HP / 176 Def / 84 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Taunt
- Foul Play
  • Next, I feel like you need a more offensive EV spread on Slowking as the current EV spread is more better suited for Calm Mind Slowking. I suggest enough speed to outpace Doublade to hopefully burn it before it hits you hard with a potential Shadow Claw (or tries to set up on you switching out). Either that or run Calm Mind > Nasty Plot with Leftovers / Colbur Berry > Mind Plate as this gives you a bulkier win con and can bolster your Special Defense stat for special attackers if you do so choose to go with Phys Def Umbreon as you then lack a special wall.
Slowking @ Mind Plate
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off
  • While I do agree that SD Gatr can break Reuniclus more easily, I feel like Dragon Dance Gatr is better for this team as it provides the team with some speed and with access to Ice Punch > Aqua Jet +1 Gatr now becomes a check to non-Scarfed variants of Hydreigon. Reuniclus isn't too much of a problem on this team as you have Umbreon to Taunt it thus not letting it set up Trick Room or Calm Mind boosts. Also +1 Gatr still does a massive amount to 252 / 252+ Reuniclus +1 252+ Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Feraligatr Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Reuniclus: 361-426 (85.1 - 100.4%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO.
Other than that, a solid looking team! I really like the offensive nature of this balance team and can't say much more other than hope you like my rate! :)
