Introduction
Welcome to my first RMT. This following team is based off a core of Banded Tyranitar and Volcanion which just destroys stall!
The Teambuilding Process
The Core
Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Superpower
- Pursuit
Volcanion @ Expert Belt
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA
- Steam Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power Grass
- Earth Power
These are the two monsters I've decided to build around. BandTar helps trap the Lati twins in order for Volcanion to put in work, you could also use it to weaken or kill chansey. Volcanion is here to kill mons that can switch into Tyranitar , such as bulky grounds. Also absorbs Will-O-Wisps from Sableye and scares it out or eats potential Scalds from Keldeo if you so choose. Expert Belt is used to bluff Choice Specs and potentially kill Ferrothorns that think can set up Stealth Rocks on my switch. This set is used to speed creep defensive Landorus-Therians and non scarf Volcanions. Hidden Power Grass is used to 2HKO Rotom-wash with Stealths Rocks.
Rounding Off The Core
Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
I loved using Mega-Manectric in XY. I also wanted a fast Volt Switch user that can lure the Lati twins or Chansey and get me a free switch in into BandTar and start the destruction. Another reason for Manectric is to supply a switch in for Heatran , that I can then proceed to switch into Volcanion to kill with earth Power. It can also act as a revenge killer or potential sweeper once everything has been weaken and can check AV Tornadus-Therian that can also cause trouble to my core.
Completing The Team
I needed a hazard remover since Spikes and Stealth Rocks destroy the above mons. For this role I chose a rapid spinner in Starmie.
Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Reflect Type
This mon being here is quite simple, helps me have a switch in to Keldeo and Heatran which I otherwise would hope lava plume doesn't burn. Absorbs statuses thanks to Natural Cure. Spins away the hazards. Reflect type is there so I can somewhat take on pursuit trappers.
As you can probably tell, fairy types can really creates problems, specifically Mega-Diancie with it's combined stabs of Rock and Fairy.
Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- Spikes
- Roost
- Whirlwind
Specially defensive Skarm fixes my Fairy switch in problem as well as scaring out Mega-Diancie. Spikes helps me put pressure on teams and harzard removers that let my Tyranitar come in to Pursuit trap. It can also phaze around Pokemon and rack up damage or kill off weakened Pokemon. It also acts as my Excadrill counter , since it adds another Ground immunity and a steel resist. If you so desire , Rocky Helmet can be used to weaken Scarfed Landorus-T that can also get out of hand.
My team is pretty weak to electric types, and can be punished by Volt Switch users. I also needed a Stealth Rock user in order to help me secure 2HKOs and also weaken Pokemon that are not affected by Spikes. Hippowdown was my choice.
Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Toxic
Hippowdon helps this this with both Thundurus forms, unless Nasty Plot, which your answer to it is Focus Blast misses or clicking X. Hippo also helps me deal with Bisharp... unless it Sword Dances. Stealth Rock helps me with flying types like Thundurus and Landorus-T and helps me weaken the opposing team. Toxic is there for Rotom-Wash and Ground types and of course, weaken the opposing team.
Threats
Boltbeam Mega-Medicham just destroys my defensive core. Only way to deal with it is having hazards up and sacking your Pokemons one by on to scare it out with Manectric. Ultimately you can hope for misses.
Nasty Plot destroys my soft check to it in Hippowdon since I'm running toxic over stone egde. My answer to this is dodging Focus Blast and weakening with Rocks and HP
Skarmory being my switch in to this dies to HP Fire. My answer is weakening this with hazards and scaring it out with Manectric.
Pursuit trappers are difficult to play around since I have to have to predict their switch, since Weavile and ScarfTar out speed Starmie, while Bisharp is not as much a problem unless you are weakened.
Manaphy and Kyuem-Black both possess the coverage to break by defensive core in water/ice + fire/electric and offer me no switch ins, although they can be weakened thanks to hazards and Manectric or scared out.
