Is it racist to imitate Chinese accent?

There's this "I want to be NEENJA" song by I think Jennifer Murphy, which a lot of Asian Americans find racist because it imitates Chinese accent, uses grammatically wrong English and misspelled words on purpose, etc.

Here in Hong Kong, lots of people imitate Cantonese accents for fun, regardless of race.
I don't live in the USA. (Actually I have never been to the USA)
Even people like me who speak English with a slight Cantonese accent, sometimes use a heavy Cantonese accent on purpose just for fun or for drama purposes.
People imitate heavy Cantonese accents during school dramas to differentiate the locals from the foreigners, and lots of people actually find it funny.

But I guess, in the USA, they have a different history?

PS; I don't find Jennifer Murphy funny, I just find her weird.
 
there's a much larger poriticar correctness atmosphere in america, and so that's probabry why asian americans find such things more offensive than asian citizens.

ah yes white guilt, the progenitor of all social justice causes and movements in the modern age. when will we acknowledge that racism is gone???

funnily enough, obvious tongue in cheek statements aren't against any of my beliefs. it'd be wrong if i was lynching or otherwise attacking people for race. making a shitpost on an online forum is harmless at worst.

Well... I don't think racism is gone. But racism is certainly a lot rarer than the media wants us to believe. I'd say that racism is very rare.
