Ash does have darker skin than his mom....and it would make sense that they would live close by to help with research...

...I think I need to lie down.

After all this time, could it be...

Good thing neither Ash nor his mom are canon :P ( Yellow hardly counts ).

Which one? I do not remember to see him and now I am curious. But as LastFootnote said, maybe this Meowth has been imported from another region. This Hypno seems to belong to the female Aether employee. This is only hypothetical, but if there is a Hypno-A, I think she would have a Hypno-A to present to the player the new form.

Not really sure, E3's gameplay footage I think? It's a been a while so I'm not sure, but I am 100% certain that a non-alolan Meowth was shown.

Anyways, I'm glad that our avatar can now finally be an actual black person, hair and all. It always bugged me how back in XY the avatar would simply be 'dark skinned' but not actually 'black'. So here's to some diversity.

Gabriel in Spanish. Why are we out of a sudden getting biblical names?

Also, it's quite funny that they lampshaded the similarities by saying "Is this Professor Oak's Alola form?"

In Mexican Spanish he is Samuel not Gabriel.

Also Gladion theme reminds me of Quilfish guy or an unova city, seriously some notes do strike like that.

I know, but I meant Samson, not white Oak :P

I too have a feeling I've heard Gladion's theme somewhere else, in Gen V... but it's just that. A feeling. I can't even think of what it reminds me of.

It probably is one of the encounter themes with a class, remember they have their jingle some classes got upbeat themes, I'm probably mixing it the spring theme of one of unova cities with it, I just can't put my finger where.

OK I checked encounter themes and it does sound like a mixture of B2W2 rival, team galactic hideout and game corner theme. All played with BW instruments, I might be pushing it with black opelucid theme.

But seriously this matches hard with Galactic hideout and BW instruments it is uncanny.

Looks like Lurantis and School!Wishiwashi are Totem Pokémon, since they appear in the same little segment as Totem Gumshoos. They even have their own unique intro animations.

We knew about Lurantis. For the Water Trial we knew the challenge was fighting a fierce Pokemon in the water we just didn't know which one, but now we do: Wishiwashi School Form (I'm going to guess its able to stay in School Form for the entire battle otherwise at half HP it's going to become a bit less intense).

This month has been nuts for updates. Sept 1 for Snorlax, Sept 6 for Type: Null and friends, this trailer, Rockruff stuff for Corocoro which is going to leak in a few days, then the Sept 14th update (which may or may not cover the same thing). If they're pushing out more info as we get close and closer to the release date, October is going to be more nuts. What's going to be left of the game? lol

Hmm, actually so far we've been shown new elements to the game (and new Pokemon) but I'm noticing they don't go into much depth in old news they've released. We know barely anything about the story, the Island Trial Challenge, Hyper Training, and the region itself. I wonder if the game is packed with content they can keep telling us the new thing that are in the game BUT not go into much detail.

Oak's cousin is called 'Samson' in the english versions. https://twitter.com/Pokemon/status/773915634191241217

Well don't forget Professor Oak's full name is Samuel Oak.

Guys... I was checking the new soundtrack of Sun and Moon (Galdion to be specific)

And I couldn't stop thinking: "I have heard this theme before... in some way..."

Adn the I remembered:

OH MY GOD!!!
It all comes together

Both themes to awfully sound similar... but I don't see how it brings anything together. I would maybe chalk this up to coincidence unless these notes are now assigned as "problem children notes". Also there's only so many note compositions, eventually they're bound to repeat especially in a series which tries to keep a certain style and theme to its music.

True, but Samson Oak is probably gonna appear in the anime :P

Possibly one of the reasons Ash goes to Alola. Now it's not hard to get Ash to a new region, but he first needs to hear about it. Imagine, Ash comes home from Kalos and visits Oak as usual. He meets Oak in a middle of a conversation with Samson (from here they can maybe do a joke like Ash thinks Oak is looking in a playhouse mirror then stunned to find out its Oak's cousin). Oak explains to Ash that Samson is his cousin from the Alola region studying a phenomenon known as "Alolan Pokemon". Samson then shows Ash an Alolan Pokemon which gets him excited and eventually wanting to go to Alola. Samson says Alola is a great region for a trainer to explore (and maybe say he or another Professor could use a trainer's help). Also would be interesting if thy added Gary in some way, like maybe he's also in Alola helping his cousin (twice removed) do research (they could have the above introduction idea start with Oak and Gary talking then Samson joins in surprising Ash that way).

AND this could be a way to allow Ash to partake in the Island Trials. Remember only native islanders are allowed to take the Trial challenge, though maybe Samson could pull some strings and have them allow Ash participate. Also we can keep the tradition of Ash meeting a Legendary Pokemon quite nicely with him encountering Tapu Koko like the player does in Sun & Moon which would further make Hala agree to let Ash take on the challenge.

Well, normal Hypno and Starmie confirmed. It's a shame, I was really hoping for Alolan Hypno. It needs a boost badly.
LATE REPLY: Just because we see a normal member of that species honestly doesn't mean anything. For starters, we saw regular Meowth. Yeah, it isn't native to Alola, but that's still an example of seeing a non-Alolan form in Sun and Moon. And it is still entirely possible to have non-Alolan forms catchable in Sun and Moon. I mena, if you encounter a Vulpix in a non-snowy environment in Alola (which there are plenty of), it wouldn't have adapted to that climate, would it?

Also, if I may make a stupid theory: Lillie is actually dead long ago. She is UB-01. The leader of Aether, Lusamine, was Lillie's sister who was stricken with extreme heartache when she died and worked to revive her. She did but she became...something else too with the ability to take on both a human shape AND a monster shape due to how she wasn't exactly human.
Or it could be like the first aired episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, "The Man Trap", where it killed Lillie and is just assuming her form.

By the way, happy 50th anniversary, Star Trek! May you continue to boldly go!

That's brilliant for two reasons. The first is, of course, the fact that Oak's first name is Samuel (meaning I accidently was right when I called Samson "Sam" earlier, woot!). The other is that he has longer hair than his Kantoan cousin, similar to the Biblical Samson.

Professor Samuel Oak and now Professor Samson Oak.

Also: Isn't there a Delilah in the tales about Samson? Where have we heard that name in Pokemon before? :p

No.... No way...

That would be amazing except that Ash's mom isn't named Delilah. Her name is Delia.
But who am I to burst your bubble. It's fun to guess that every other male character is Ash's fath...
Wait...what if Ash's father is an Ultra Beast!?!?

Well don't forget Professor Oak's full name is Samuel Oak.
I think that was the point she was making.

Letters were probably removed to avoid direct references to the bible. Remember it was the late 90s where fundamentalists ran rampant with pokemon stealing souls and junk.
The funniest part of that is that the Vatican or one of the other high Catholic organizations actually released a statement not too long ago saying Pokemon is healthy due to how it treats us to love and respect God's creatures - especially with the way the TV show treats Pokemon.

But, I digress, I can actually see how the anime will move to Alola - Ash following Professor Oak as he goes to visit his cousin and see his research on the regional forms.

Lol Mexicans gave no fuck about this XD(Catholics don't really give a fuck about anything), we where having cable link battles in the church Garden XD, it was close to the local playground and there where small shops close where we could buy chips and cola XD.

God I freaking loved my childhood and pokemon was actually a big part of it.

At a Catholic grade school myself there were rumors among the kids about the whole "demonic" reasoning for why the cards and stuff were banned, but in reality it was just distracting as all high hell during class and actual fights broke out at times too due to the cards.

I was called the Antichrist by some mother because I dared to play both Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and that I attempted to seduce her children to Hell. Childhood was great.

I never had anyone to play Pokemon with u.u

Though granted, in those days, a Game Boy or a TCG set was basically a luxury... there's a reason the 2DS/3DS XL I'm planning on getting by december will be my FIRST handheld console ever.

This particular topic could be a thread in itself :o And my what an interesting (and probably depressing) thread it would be!

Edit: wait what

how do you have 813 posts on a competitive Pokemon website and yet you've never owned one of the consoles :O No seriously though isn't that pretty unlikely??

So after watching the recent Verlisify video I decided to break down the new trailer. I originally decided not to do it as I thought anything worth mentioning has been said, but as always looks like GF might have snuck in some more conversation points than we thought:

0:08: First glimpse of that village on the bottom of the volcano island, the one that has a lighthouse and is connected to a cemetery-looking place.
0:09: Speaking of which, here's that building in front of the volcano and its the Battle Royale building. Also in front of the building you see a Machamp and a few other figures standing there (right next to the Machamp balloon). one is a human but the other I can't tell what it is... new Pokemon?
0:09: Darn these microsecond frames! We're on the rocky island in this on being shown inside the canyon. Below there's a dead tree... and 3 things in front of it. Now 2 of them are people, but the 3rd is big so probably a Pokemon. One of the humans are wearing a white jacket so its either Kukui or one of the Aether Foundation officials. I'm also guessing the smaller human is the player, I think the girl as I think you see the bag the female character carries. However I have no clue what that Pokemon could be... maybe its a new Pokemon?
0:11: Okay, we're on top of the mountain and what the heck is that portal thing? Well, it actually looks like a door upon closer expection but still has some portal vibes to it. It also has a Sun logo on it so I'm guessing this is Sun version.
0:41: Okay, one of the things pointed out is that at this point, seen though the semi-transparent text box, you can see something dash by. Verlisify says its pink colored but I'm not so sure, but it does look to have rabbit-like ears. Now upon closer expection the ears sort of look like Bunnelby's, though some people are saying its pink colored so who knows if it could be a new Pokemon.
1:02: A possible hint the Pokemon which pestered Cubone were Phantumps? It would certainly make their Ghost-type make sense (though a bit counterproductive since it'll also be weak to Ghost-type moves).
1:10: So there looks to be an abandoned building in Alola, quite a spacious and decorative one too.
1:58: Now this is odd. This is the same Fighting Z-Move that Lucario used, but its animation is different. Instead of a fury or hands and fists its just one blast. OR what we saw Lucario do was the beginning and this is what the ending animation is. So "Full-Force Unparalleled Fists of Fury" first releases a batch of projected punches and kicks before gathering the energy together to release it as a single big blast.
1:59: The Flying-type Z-Move is tornado, obvious.
2:01: Now this is where things get interesting. Verlisify's video pointed out that when you do a Z-Move the trainer makes a pose with energy burning behind them and it then cuts to the Pokemon which has the Z-Move symbol + the Z-Crystal logo appear over it. But here the trainer makes a victorious pose, has a rainbow glow comes from the Z-Ring, rainbow sparks burst around the trainer, and the Z-Move symbol appears in front of the trainer. This is where the animation ends though maybe they're not showing one last bit of it: what symbol appears after the Z-Move logo? Could it possibly be the Mega Pokemon symbol? Mega Evolution is associated with rainbows and it would make sense for the logo to appear over the trainer as they're the ones using it while the Pokemon would then undergo the Mega Evolution transformation. Now this doesn't mean there is any new Mega Pokemon, it just a theory this is the Z-Rings way of activating the Mega Evolution mechanic.

That's all I have to point out. The trailer certainly feels epic and shows Sun & Moon has a lot to offer. Hopefully it can live up to this hype.

Emulators, ROM hacks, fangames, and PS! would allow playing the series without ever owning a handheld, plus a couple console games exist.

Why are you watching Verlisify in the first place?

Why are you watching Verlisify in the first place?

Because Youtube recommends videos it thinks you'll "like" and, since I've been watching Pokemon Sun & Moon speculation videos, it recommends me videos like Verlisify.

Is Verlisify another Youtuber we're not suppose to talk on Smogon about? If so I apologize, is there a list of Youtubers that shouldn't be mentioned on Smogon so I don't keep doing that?

Never watch the accursed one channel, never forget heavy slam Wailord, or all his "well researched" information like Volcarona countering Mega Lucario...

Do your brain a favor and put "I'm not interested in this channel" on YouTube mobile, the only function that works as intended in the new youtube and effectively removes all recommendations from a specific Chanel.

And no he isn't blacklisted, he is just obnoxious and stupid, abusing click bait format on YouTube thumbnails to gain a quick buck out of mediocre fabricated content. If anything listing him makes you lose all your credibility.

Noted.

That said, while I disagree with the "new bunny Pokemon", he (or rather his twitter followers) do have a point about the last Z-Ring animation being much different and seemingly having elements of Mega Evolution activation. Also it did encourage to look closely for any new Pokemon and I might have spotted some which are more convincing. While you may not like the guy I do at least find the topics worthy of discussion as there seems to be some validity behind them this time around.
