Gen VII: Pokemon Sun and Moon Discussion MKII

Ultra Beasts made me realize that I'm a sucker for eldritch/alien stuff. That said, I don't think that I need to say that I like UB-02 Beauty. UB-02 Absorption on the other hand does not feel otherworldly. It just feels like an ugly bulky mosquito.

The Island Guardians may have had a history with the Ultra Beasts... Maybe they, along with Solgaleo/Lunala, sealed them away? (Getting into MTG territory there.)
It's not MTG Territory until two of the three most powerful ones get burned to death or the most powerful one can twist any liking thing into her image and she gets sealed in the moon... Now I want an UB-666 Emrakul...

Ok so these new ultra beasts have allowed me to warm up to them as they don't look nearly as weird. Loving that Tapu Koko is truly an island guardian, having selected Hala to fight along side him. Finally a lesser legendary that I truly like, I don't think there has been one since the Regi trio. As a sidenote, Mosquito beast's pecker is literally hard as diamond, step aside Ponyta's hooves. I wonder how we'll "fight" them as they may not carry typical pokemon moves.

I'm also liking the kind of parallel stories they have going on here, similar to BW. It'll be interesting to see how everything ties together.

Nah, everything hints a Marowak plot point feature, a Black/White Kyurem fight in steroids, or a scripted battle like PokerStar.

I'm thinking that the signature move of Solgaleo ignoring abilities might hint a scripted or unwinnable battle unless you get a bank mold breaker pokemon to win it.

They could go full JRPG here in attempt to compete with other franchises.

man an unwinnable battle.

rest in peace nuzlockes man. Doubt they'll do that because I mean...they know about Nuzlockes, right?

They probably only care about the cinematic experience, think of modern squeenix RPG titles, it's all about the fluff not the mechanics.

We can also speculate in super attract ub 02, but I won't since it may border wishlisting.

We have seen so far a lot of mons already. Whats your prediction on tiers? I know it's too early, but I think it's fun to speculate.
Personally I believe this gen Electric and Ground will dominate the meta.

While Fairy/Rock be on almost EVERY team so probably all Steel mons will move up a category as well.

Why the hell is Expansion renamed to Absorption? Expansion is already in English!
Because of boob expansion? Or what?

As I said, it probably has a gimmick which involves absorbing something and growing (aka expanding). Whether the "expansion" is visual or not, as with any name change it could be the English translators thought the kiddies might not understand what "expansion" means/how it connects to what UB-02 Absorption does so they changed it to something more easier to understand what it's doing.

As for what gimmick it could have involving absorption/expansion, well that could be a number of things. But considering UB-02 Absorption is a humanoid mosquito who looks like it filled its upper body and arms with blood I imagine it might not be a good thing for who its fighting.

I think tier talk is premature at the moment. Usage in tiers are affected by multiple factors and until the games actually come out, there's no knowing which pokemon will fit in what tier for sure. Prediction is fun, and I understand the excitement, but it just really is too hard to genuinely predict anything while the game isn't out yet.

Not to mention that OI isn't a place for competitive discussion. It's happened here and there (like with z-moves), but once again, I just think tier prediction is a bit much.

UB-02 Absorption's proboscis is longer in the Tapu Koko screenshot than the CoroCoro art, so not only is it harder than diamond, but can extend at will. Just the thought of that thing stabbing makes me want to shudder.

All you people complaining that this latest info drop was rubbish - so far, they've given us more info on these games than any others, and it's been a steady stream to keep us entertained (and hyped of course). Stop acting so entitled.

Haha remember the infinite drought that we were in pre-Z? Or even post Z, if you count Zygarde's reveal. This is a torrent in comparison, not a stream.

Honestly I've enough to keep me satsified anyway, wouldn't object to going dark from this point on. Besides, GameFreak doesn't always know when to shut up regarding pre-launch spoilers.

Well, we do have a Moon version...

They probably won't care about Nuzlockes... But tbh I'm sure that if there is an unwinnable battle, that will be an exception to the rule for a Nuzlocke Challenge.

Pretty much this. You can theorize how useful something can be all day, but in the end we just don't have enough data (plus it's in a vacuum) to draw any real conclusions. That will come in the weeks after Sun/Moon launches.

inb4 A Sturdy Shedinja-like UB shows up (Thinking about Indestructible creatures) :P

But yeah, with the hint of UB being pretty much eldritch beings, literally anything can happen. It shows some potential.

Weren't the starters shown using Bloom Doom / Inferno Overdrive / Hydro Vortex? I don't think their secret would be exclusive Z-Moves is we've already seen them use Z-Moves...
