Gen VII: Pokemon Sun and Moon Discussion MKII

I never liked primate pokémons, don't know why but I always found them ugly or uninspired. These boys though, they totally change my mind: Passimian is the first lemur (as everyone already said, it confirms the "rugby monkey" leak so... Dolphin and Snowman confirmed?), and I love it in its simplicity. Maybe I would've find it a bit uninspired if it was from an older gen, but I love its animation: I expected something terrible from "rugby monkey" considering how I didn't like much primate 'mons, sports and anthropomorphic 'mons: instead I got a new, simple and refreshing design with splendid animation. However, as much as I appreciate Passimian, Oranguru just hit the right spot: I love it, i find it a magnificent interpretation of an orangutan, and the esper/guru vibe is just perfect. Both lemurs and orangutans are island species, they fit really well the Alola's region.
Never been a fan of Pikachu either, but I do find CATASTROPIKA amusing... Can't really find it interesting though, as it has to be stupidly strong to be a better option over Light Ball (not that it would surprise me at all, as they finally got the chance to make their mascotte OP).
Extreme Evoboost has been largely discussed already: I love the mahō shōjo vibe, and it will be definitely instabanned in LC... It will indeed make Eevee much more viable in lower tiers, but with Baton Pass restrictions I doubt it will get a chance to shine in higher tiers.
Differently from usual, my opinion on Lycanroc didn't change much with the animated models: I like midday form, and it looks much more promising competitively wise (high speed, rock priority, sand rush), and I'm still not fond of the midnight form, I'm even a bit disappointed by its typing and abilities... Since these games have lots of original ones, I hoped this was the case... We'll see for the respective stats and movepools.
Trainer customization looks awesome this gen, hope it'll be much easier to get and affordable in-game... It does look really improved compared to XY. Female trainer is definitely going to be the superior choice for customization, males generally have to be a bit older for that... Beard will be obviously a straight-up Nope, sadly (I have my beard since middle school), I do hope there'll be the long hair option for male at least.
Pokemon refresh is mostly an updated amie, and I like that. Many times I spent too much money to cure my team with items out of batte, or I annoyingly had to go back to a pokémon center: now it'll be easier and funnier too.

That's if there isn't some sort of shitstorm similar to Dynamic Punch and PU...
It's an item, these have been banned before without problems (see: mega stones, Berry Juice in LC, Soul Dew).

Also, if you guys are going to share any sort of leaks, can you please use hide tags? I've already seen the leaks that were shared on the last page, but I'm sure there are some people who are trying to avoid them, and it's not really fair to them.

Code:
[hide=spoilers]your stuff goes here[/hide]
becomes
your stuff goes here

if you don't want spoilers then what are you doing in this subforum?

The mods have been very good about keeping visual spoilers under wraps. Text spoilers can be hit and miss given that there's only 1 credible leak, but it's rarely spoiler'd, though admittedly it gets harder and harder to avoid reading about it as that one leak becomes more and more credible. Still doable, though, (I still haven't read the leak, but I haven't a clue if there isn't anything I haven't already heard about via the grapevine) and anyway if you want to discuss the *released* SM news, there isn't anywhere else here you can do it. Or anywhere in general, probably I'm not willing to try searching the serebii forums thank you

I would assume because Catastropika is a play on Catastrophic + Pikachu whereas Pikatastrophe is Pikachu + Catastrophe. The former sounds like Pikachu is causing the catastrophe whereas the latter sounds more like a catastrophe befalling the Pikachu. At least it seems that way to me...

For me, Catastropika rolls off the tongue better than pikatastrophe...
Also, on an unrelated note, does the damage Wishiwashi inflicted on Mudsdale and A!Marowak look right? I know spread moves get weakened in doubles, but School form only took out half of health of the ground types... That feels... Weaker that I thought it would be.

I checked this out and it seems roughly in line with what Blastoise with 0 EVS does with Surf. Yeah, it's pretty low all things considered (around base 85 or so). This is also assuming that Alolan Marowak doesn't get a big Spcl Def boost with the form change, normal Marowak is 60/110/80 on the defences (not exactly great but not horrible) which is what I calced with. With neither of them (Marowak-A and Mudsdale) having their stats known its hard to place how much it should really do.

In this instance I think they meant the leaks on the previous page, which I will go and add hide tags too. He even said "Going to share leaks". I'm not sure how you misconstrued that. Official information is entirely different to leaks in every way.

Thanks. Sorry, I wasn't even thinking.

(and sorry to anyone who may have read it and didn't mean to)

Yeah I have noticed the weak surf as well, but School Wishiwashi might just be physically oriented, and they took it as an exemple for the exact reason of 2hko-ing with surf

I mean, who cares about 85 SpA if you can spam Waterfall from a base stat of 140+ ?

Especially since it looks more physical than special to me. Well, there is no way to tell so early, but at least we still have hope :D

I've actually been misreading the Japanese name of that move this whole time. Turns out that it's ひっさつのピカチュート (Hissatsu no Pikachūto, which--based on the animation+the sound of the word--is most likely interpreted as "Killer Technique Pikashoot" (like Pikachu+Shoot, which if Inazuma Eleven has taught me anything is what they substitute in place of "shot")) as opposed to ひっさつのピカチュー (Hissatsu no Pikachu; lit. "Killer Technique of Pikachu"). IDK what I think about that honestly. It's pretty cool though, and it makes more sense than the English name does...

May be this way. In the first trailer it almost KO a Magnezone with Hydro pump, is not like Magnezone has the greatest SpD in the game, but isn't low either.

just kind of realized how easy even nuzlockes are with pokemon refresh, you can very conveniently just heal all your Pokemon via Pokemon Refresh if it's low and don't have to spend nearly as much money.

This, I come here to discuss the official info and I'd prefer to play the games with just that information (then again, I live in the UK, so this isn't exactly a realistic hope )

What also astonished me was the fact that Mudsdale took more damage than Marowak A. Given how poor regular Marowak's special bulk is, that's sad. Hopefully becoming a fire/ghost type means Marowak's def and sp.def will get swapped or something like this. I like the horse and it seems to have at least above average hp and def. Don't want it too be super frail on the special side.

They probably manipulated all their stats specifically so that both opponents would take two hits to KO, since that was meant to show off Instruct and not Wishiwashi.

In the absolute worst case scenario based on the Hydro Pump that did ~93% to a Magnezone 4 levels higher than it, Wishiwashi School Form has minimum base 125 Special Attack.
252+ SpA Wishiwashi Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Magnezone: 67-79 (79.7 - 94%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

It's also worth noting that Catastropika has the sounds of "tropic" in it, which references Alola.

Okay, so I know I'm late but I finally just now got a chance to watch the newest trailer.

Oranguru and Passimian are both really neat to me. Passimian's ability reminds me of Trace, in that it can potentially copy useful abilities. I think I like it more than Oranguru.

I think both Lycanroc are cool, especially now that I've seen them both in 3D. Though I'm surprised the night form isn't half dark type, but whatever. Also, rock resisting ice is a nice touch after all these generations.

I've said before and I'll say it again. Z-move animations are way too damn long lol. I feel like they'll probably be cut out all together on Showdown, though I don't know if I'd use them ingame.

Trainer customization coming back was expected, I'm happy about it. I also like the Pokemon-amie (or Refresh) is back. The choice to groom your pokemon is really cute.

Wait, it is supposed to be Catastropic + Pikachu or Catastrophe + Pikachu... Cus the two are pronounced differently and i was assuming it was the latter.

(I.e. kata-stro-Pika vs ka-tas-tro-pika)

I'm loving that some of the newer Pokémon have a lot of value in doubles, even if they may not be particularly useful in singles. I am torn between Passimian and Oranguru, although I feel the latter has more intriguing flavor text.

Lycanroc Night for me seems very peculiar. At first glance, why not Dark type? But if it's going to be defensive, Dark would just add more weaknesses, which would not be particularly useful if they're touting Counter as a forme exclusive move. This makes me worry that both formes are just going to end up as gimmicks.

It can't be Catastropic + Pika but Catastropic isn't a thing, you're thinking of Catastrophic. So either way, the conjunction would lose the "f" sound in the trophic/trophe, but with /trophe, you get the "ee" sound that Peekachu has. So imma go with Catastrophe + Pika for this (very weird) discussion.

Pikatastropika. No wait. MEGA Pikatastropika.
