Gen VII: Pokemon Sun and Moon Discussion MKII

I think they may have done it a few times during this release season, I know they revealed crabrawler at worlds before corocoro, and turtinator at a video conference somewhere else.

So the only thing we know about CoroCoro is that we may be getting info on Type: Null's true power?

Okay, I got nothing. Specially since it could be a Z-Move, alternate forms, a new move, an evolution. Hopefully it will be something good.

Hope this isn't too much in the "What if" category, but I think we have pretty reasonable suspicion that it's going to be a different form relating to its mask not being on. Its bio states that it is currently being limited by its helmet, without it, it is supposedly very fast. So we know that much.

Hey Skunch, happy first day in the thread. About the Type:Null thing maybe there will be one in the demo without a helmet.

I dont know, gaming trends would imply that Type null will be a midgame arc boss if anything else, An enemy you build up a fight with early but doesnt amount to too much in the narrative, think of kamus on Fire Emblem and other Char clones in JRPG.

Guessing their spot on the game narrative by just hunches wouldnt be wise.

Seeing as that we know Type: Null is Gladion's partner Pokemon, I'd say it's safe to make a few assumptions about it.

For one, we probably won't get a chance to battle Gladion until around midway or later in the game, though we may encounter him early. Best case, we battle him without his T:N. I don't recall what mon was used in the trailer fight against him, but seeing as that its power is suppose to rival legends, it would make sense that we don't face off against it so quickly.

The other assumption is that we likely won't get it until the late- or post-game since Gladion is a Team Skull member. In either case, if it does have a secret form it seems like it would be something the player could exclusively bring out of it - which means it would be silly to reveal it so early. Although, it wouldn't be surprising if corocoro goes into its lore and says something like "only a certain trainer can pull out its true potential." Anyways, yeah, this could be completely wrong. but just some ideas on what we could be expecting, given its characteristics and its canon owner.

I think T:N will be the only pokemon with the legendary 'z form'. They're making it very apparent that he will take his helmet off at some point and I highly doubt he evolves, has an out of battle forme item or will get a mega so from both a 'hype up new gimmick' perspective and a gameplay perspective a special Z move transformation makes a lot of sense. I doubt there will be any new megas at least in S/M if not the entire generation just because of how they phrased it as 'reliving' mega evolution in that reveal.

I think it'll probably end up like ORAS where in the remakes they add a bunch of new megas and forms. And I do think those are happening, their celebration of the 10 year anniversary of Sinnoh games, the hints of Arceus on Type Null's design, the interdimensional story elements coming back up and the Munchlax distribution at launch all hint strongly at it.

But the thing is there has to be a way to find one in the wild because in the reveal trailer there was no trainer behind it while you were battling.

Not necessarily, it's not like they can't mess with the encounter tables just to show something off. It's also why a lot of the people saying "hey we saw X kanto pokemon in the wild not in alola form therefore it can't have an alola form" people are reaching. You can't read too much into the trailers like that.

But why would they do that if they could just use Gladion battle footage like the jp trailer did.

Speaking of Gladion and Null

the fact that a hired gun for team Skull has a semi-legendary while it's boss' been featured with a frigging Ariados of all things and the strong implication that there'll be no new mega evolutions points to Gladion being the true leader of team Skull (and probably also behind-the-man shenanigans)

so you know Guzma's probably as treatening as James

Given how weird Type:Null is, we can expect pretty much anything from CoroCoro. Heck, I wouldn't even be surprised if it got Multitype as a Hidden Ability of all things.

Also, minor wishlisting: while playing Super Mario 3D Land, I suddenly started wanting these games to have a feature where you can see the overworld from a first-person perspective. Well... maybe that Snap-like feature already provides that, hopefully.

Really hoping that the Z-Ring has some sort of in-game limitation so that the key battles (mainly against the trial captains, rivals, and Team Skull Admins) don't become a cake walk (assuming Z-moves are as absurdly powerful as we believe them to be). I know that its already been stated that they can only be used once per battle, but a limitation like that simply isn't enough to stop these moves from being utterly broken in game, especially since most ingame bosses have 4 or less pokemon on their team.

Because the guy making the English trailer had a different idea for how to show it. These trailers aren't really centralized in how they are formatted and distributed, there have been plenty of 'accidental' drops of stuff like the ice stone in the last Spanish trailer or the hammer store in the Japanese trailer with Delibird that are only in one region's trailer. This leads me to believe that TCPI basically goes to localization and just tells them what they want to reveal and to make a trailer in that language with that stuff in it. Since all of the in game footage is taken in the same language as the trailer these guys making trailers aren't necessarily working with the same set of footage.

There's an implication that Aether's scientists may have had a hand in the creation of Null which fits well into the 'epic plot twist' narrative. Perhaps they were abusing Null or something and Gladion ran off with him and was taken in by Guzma, and the entire conflict between the teams is secretly aimed at getting Gladion and Null back. There's also the fact that Lusamine, Lillie and Gladion are all named after flowers which may imply some relation between them (the fact that they all look similar lends itself to this). The Gladiolus symbolizes moral fortitude and has had that connotation since Roman times, so I have trouble believing that Gladion is some sort of ruthless evil character in and of himself. The lily symbolizes chastity, purity and innocence. Lusamine? The root of her name is from garden balsam which is also known as a 'touch me not'. I'll leave that for you to interpret.

These also all have relevance to the alchemy motif they seem to be running with this generation which is the only reason I assign any importance to these names.

To be honest, If Nintendo ever wanted to make a Pokemon with Protean as a Non-Hidden Ability, Type: Null would be it based on the name alone. Maybe rather than Multitype it would have some other gimmick that equates it to mostly being a mini-Arceus, since it already looks a bit like man's crude attempt at creating an Arceus.

We are waiting on scans, but according to Serebii:

10:20: From the same source, but currently without pictures so it's unconfirmed, Jangmo-o's evolution is in the magazine, and is Dragon/Fighting-type, and that Type: Null changes type based on items it holds, and that it evolves.

Dragon/Fighting Jangmo-O and Type Null's type changes based on items (and apparently evolves too). Hopefully we will get more information within the next half an hour or so.
