there;s a handful of QR code specific pokemon which is kind of lame.

everything else will have to wait for either bank, a further version or some weird global link give aways

Ah, well.. that is a little unfortunately. Normally we get some national dex additions post-game. Oh well, still a good selection even without em and January isn't too far away.

it seems like there isn't even a national dex??

either that or all of the national dex preview images and dex entries are tucked away somewhere else

I believe the official Sun and Moon site details the new update with Pokemon Bank has a National Pokedex. Very odd that the actual game would lack one, though. We shall see.

I actually like the fact that Pokebank is locked away until January. It gives us an opportunity to try out the new stuff and the meta will be quite unique.
I think it's worth pointing out that the update for the Poke Bank isn't set for Junuary, only that it's scheduled to be released somewhere around 'early' 2017. For what is worth, it could be released in March and they'd still be on schedule. I'm actually misinformed.

Anyways, hordes and super training are confirmed to be gone and it begs the question: why? I simply do not understand. It was such a great thing and everything was heading into the right direction so why? Why take one step forward and two backwards? And the worst thing is: I'm sure that we've been spoiled rotten by gen6's quick EV training methods, which is only gonna make all this grinding all the more painful.

Obviously not happy about this.

Yeahhhh... should have expected this could have happened. Hopefully Poke Pelago's EV boosting things are a good substitute. Those Adrenaline Orbs could also be a good alternative for EVs as well.

Yeah I know.

Still though, I sucks so bad. And from what I've heard the Poke Plaza EV training facility is a once-a-day thing. Can anybody confirm this? If so, then man... so much for the gen is supposedly meant to welcome to new players...

*snickers* Heh..

Eh... we'll find out, I guess. We do have those Adrenaline Orb items to make Pokemon call for help, so that could be an alternative for EV training.

Overall, I'm disappointed with Sun and Moon.

I didn't like X/Y because the mega evolutions weren't really additions to the dex, since they are really just glorified form changes. We didn't get as many new pokemon, and since gamefreak didn't give more of them useable stats to make up for it, there weren't very many new additions to competitive play compared to Black/White. If it weren't for the introduction of Fairy types, it would have been more noticeable and caused some stagnation.

Sun/Moon are the same. Instead of mega evolutions, we have what may as well be called "Uber Beasts", which are a stark and unnecessary change in tone. The Alolan forms are much preferred to mega evolutions, since they're "permanently distinct" and therefore are more effective as world-building components, plus they aren't abominations of gameplay balance, but there could have been more of them, and then some of them are missed opportunities and it would have been interesting if they were given more base stats/slightly different spreads, since that would bolster the theme of island biogeography resulting in rapid adaptation.

And again, we have a regional dex with a lot of really cool concepts that won't see competitive play and some that are going to be hard to justify using even in-game. I'm especially angry about Golisopod, and Aquaranid; one has decent stats and a crappy ability, the other has crappy stats, a questionable movepool, and an interesting but useless ability. The fruit princess is funny but her signature move is lackluster, Lurantis is in the same boat, almost. Kommo-o doesn't get Close Combat, which is absolutely baffling, Vikavolt isn't tanky enough or fast enough to do much, Palossand is basically special Golurk in the worst way possible, we got a really interesting pikaclone that doesn't evolve because, you know, Pikachu evolved and that /totally ruined/ Pikachu's marketability.

The thing that baffles me the most is that so many of the new pokemon are so slow. I'd actually really appreciate it if they just slowed down the game in general (gen VI would have done this, but it also introduced megas, which overshadowed things like sticky web), but introducing a generation of mostly-slower pokemon isn't going to fix that; people will just pick the few that are faster and the rest will be relegated to oblivion, because making the new pokemon slower doesn't mean the existing pokemon are slower and they just stand out more. The silver lining is the new distribution of useful moves and better stats to older pokemon, which makes up for some of the disappointment, but really doesn't do nearly enough and is poorly applied in some cases (Farfetch'd, Masquerain).

I'll just stick to Pokemon Showdown. I'd love to be proved wrong on these points, because I was excited for Sun and Moon at first, but I think a lot of the new pokemon will just never get the spotlight for any niche or team strategy and the boosts to older pokemon weren't enough.

Well, not everyone can be pleased, even though I disagree with a few things. But I can also agree with a few things. Matter of opinion in the end.

While I can't deny your points, I feel like Z moves will drastically change up the meta, alongside (sadly old) Megas. As well as some mechanics being changed as well as new BSTs and abilities. Ultra Beasts bring something new to the table: eventually we will run out of the current Pokemon world. Deoxys was only a stepping stone into exploring new worlds. But now, a whole different universe, apparently. Ultra Beasts serve as "what other threats/pokemon are outside our world?"

Wait, when was Super Training confirmed to be gone? And with nothing replacing it? And horde battles are possibly either gone or much harder to generate?

Super Training brought me back to the series after I just got bored of dealing with normal EV training for all my Pokemon. Honestly really disappointed and suspect this will make me lose interest in these games quickly, especially if we don't even have EV gauges anymore.

I don't understand the logic of getting rid of an important barrier to competitive in IV maxing, but making it MUCH less accessible by making EV training a pain in the ass again.
