Team Monotype Premier League III Discussion Thread

If you get drafted onto a team, each week your team will be matched up against an opposing team. If your manager decides that you'll be playing ORAS in a certain week, you will be playing the opposing team's ORAS player in the corresponding battle slot. Here's an example lineup:

Bloom Doom Glooms lineup (vs Petalburg Porygons):
SM1: Player A
SM2: Player B
SM bo3: Player C
ORAS1: GlimpseOfAPast
ORAS2: Player D
BW1: Player E
BW2: Player F
Monothreat: Player G

In that example, you would be battling whoever the Petalburg Porygons picked for their ORAS1 slot. All team managers need to submit their lineup to the host(s) before the week can begin, so neither team knows for sure what their opponent's lineup will look like until all the lineups are submitted.
Ah okay that makes sense. So these different types of setups, would I be making a team based around ORAS if I'm listed there for example?

What are the chances of getting in with a score of 1500ish Elo for monotype, memorizing everything Pokémon, 2 years on Pokémon Shodown, but no prior tournament knowledge? Also can someone summarize how this tournament will work and how to get a better chance at being drafted? All of these prior forum posts are making me more confused. Thanks in advance!
P.S. How do tryouts work too?

I don't think most managers look at ladder ranking

These don't exactly help, it's easier to show the managers your skill by getting a tryout game because otherwise plenty of people can just say they're knowledgeable

It's just a basic group team tour where each team plays each other team once and then the top ones go on to finals, should be fairly self explanatory once it starts. Managers draft teams and choose which players play what metagames.

Do: try to look like you know what you're doing, get a good tryout if at all possible to show managers you have some skill, get your name out there. If you're very new this isn't the easiest thing to get into because you need to be known for the most part, that's what you have to overcome
Don't do: Make bad posts, look like you don't know what you're doing, show that people who are more into the community don't have a high opinion of you (whoopsies)

lol your in the same situation I'm in.... except I'm more like 4 years and with experience in monotype throughout that time (from BW to Today XD)

tryouts would be something similar to PMing managers when they are online, look at the list of managers and try PMing them to ask for a tryout

So is it that people play a different setup, or do they play the same setup every week? Say I was chosen for ORAS2, (if I even do) would I play that every week, or just that one?

You would play for just that week, if the manager decides to put you in the same tier next week then you would play it again. The lineup won't be the same every week and any player on the team can play a different tier each week depending on what the manger decides to do.

sad draft story of non woa member part 2

Amount of time you played the tier: Since Always
Accomplishments: Run leagues on a few side servers
Types you use with full confidence: Fire

Not giving an essay, always in Lobby. Not sure how teams are being picked so I guess just hit me up if you need someone to light that fire

Had another mock draft just now! And you already know we had managers making mistakes wew.

Chat logs: https://hastebin.com/raw/adaxivujuj
Summary: https://hastebin.com/raw/tulayufaqi

Someone needs to explain how I keep getting bought onto these 15 man teams that can't even field a complete team of 8 x-x

Edit:
Oh by the way, JonisWangggg was a substitute for Freeroamer after our competent managers bid 66k on him.

ok just as an FYI to all Ladderheroes out here:

unless your name is Lotus Wincon and you've absolutely crushed the mastermind and metagame-creator (being me!!), you're not going to get picked up purely based on your ladder ranking. not one manager is going to look at the sign-ups, look at the ladder, then look back at sign-ups and think to himself: hm, this guy seems good. imma pick him. Be creative; talk to managers, try out for them, show them you can be creative in building, etc etc. Ladder ranking won't get you anywhere
