If renaming Pokemon with PokeSav was safe and possible, would you do it?

Pokesav dumps all of the data that DOESN'T correspond to IVs, EVs, contest stats, etc. So when you edit something with Pokesav, the non-essential data, which is usually used to prove legitimacy, is gone.

exactly which could make a perfectly LEGIT pokemon appear illegit. A part of their hex codes are lost so I guess it's not really that safe...

Even if the pokémon is "corrupted" by pokesav, I'd still use it to change the names of the ones I got that aren't redistributable. After all, I'm not going to trade them, all I want is battle with them.

Or I could make a copy via GTS of the pokémon I want renamed, then rename it and use it, while keeping the other intact.

I didn't know this. But I would assume all that data is inaccessible to the regular pokemon battler.. so would I be correct in saying that this doesn't really matter?

Either way, I think a lot of people here that are anti-hacking seem to bend the rules a bit when it comes to things like nicknames and cloning. 99.9% of the time in a case like this nobody will know the difference anyway. Really, it should be more of an all or nothing issue (either allow hacking within the confines of the game or not at all).. but that's for us to discuss in the 50 million hacking topics that pop up each week, right?

I'm also for the ok, I'd like give my pkm nickname... or example, japanese name XD asd XD well don't know if someone could done it safely exept dawn

Yeah. It's just that if you renamed say, something you got from another of your own save files and were trading it in your shop, and for some reason came under suspicion of trading hacks, and someone checked it, it would look Pokesav-generated to them.

Isn't there an AR code out there somewhere that would let you use the name rater to rename any Pokemon (even those where you aren't OT)? Seems like it should exist, but I've dug through so many sites full of "lol I can use Pokesav" codes that I've said fuck it.

Not that I know of.

Well, I got some Pokes renamed that I got in trades with people. After all, it's not like I'm redistributing them.

No, but you can use AR to change your OT/SID and trainer name to that of the Poke's, then use the name rater in game to change it. Not sure if this works on Pokemon from different game versions but it's much easier than using Pokesav.

Is it safer?

Would you rather buy a flash cart, dump your save, edit the name in Pokesav, and restore the save, or use 1 AR code? Dumping/restoring saves isn't exactly safe for the integrity of the save, and restoring doesn't always work for people.

Raikou is right about that. You can change your IDs to match the Pokemon's and do it that way. Just google search those codes and you can change your game to match those IDs, and then change it back afterwards. Much easier than trying to rename (ruin) something with Pokesav.

It's a program used to make hacked Pokemon. It's easy for someone who knows what they're doing to find out that the Pokemon are hacked, though.

I think it's more along the lines of Trader A trading their pokemon, everyone being okay with new nicknames, Trader B comes along, hack checks them, and yells out to the entire community that Trader A hacks. Because Trader A PokeSaved a name, he can no longer prove the legitimacy of his pokemon, and he is blacklisted.

Ive seen hacked Pokemon work just fine on PBR. Is there a more sophisticated method for screening Pokemon than the one on there?

Basically, the combination of Nature and IVs generates a code. On caught but not bred Pokemon, this can be checked and if the numbers don't match up, the Pokemon is hacked. Because of when numbers are generated during the breeding process, soft-resetting can also cause the numbers not to match properly, so there's no real way to check bred Pokemon yet, although there's always common sense.

I cant stand that hacking shit!!!! people who do that want to make me hunt them down kill there mum and chop off their p3n1s!!!!! or b00b5 if female

We're not talking about hacking with PokeSav, you idiot. We're talking about safely renaming Pokes with unconventional methods due to issues concerning the OTs.

You're not a victim if you knowingly use a cheating program to modify Pokemon you intend to trade to others, even if it's "harmless" like nicknames. It is, after all, a cheat program.

Just change your trainer name/OT in game with AR and use the name rater, no need to touch Pokesav.
