Challenge COMPLETED (for now) Chansey´s (formerly Heatran´s) path to the (ribbon) mastery

It all started a few days ago. If you had red the Shiny experiences thread, you may remember that I wanted to give Ho-oh every available gen 4 and ownward ribbon. Sadly I did soon realize that this was impossible, because Ho-oh isn´t allowed to Battle tower. So I had to choose another. But what pokemon? I didn´t want something super-popular, like Charizard, but still something that is good competetively, especially in Battle spot doubles, as it is my favorite format. So the search began.

In the end I decided on Heartan, for several reasons. One, he is pretty good at BSD, second, he isn´t exactly popular, and third, I had uncatched Heartan waiting on Stark mountain in my Diamond game. Well, if I said "waited", I mean he wasn´t summoned. I played my Diamond to the point where i beat the E4 and got National dex, so I could transfer my poke to the other games. That of course means I didn´t set a foot on Battle resort.

It took me several hours, even with avoiding every trainer possible, till I got to the Stark mountain on Bucky escort mission. As Heartan was at level 70, I used this opportunity to train, and abused it heavily. My Uxie (who would be Yawning Heartan to sleep) went from level 53 to level 65 by the time I was done. Next step was of course synchronizer Abra. Luckily I had several Abras already, so I bred two of them till I got the nature and ability I wanted. I decided on Timid, as from my experiences with battling other Heatrans would fit better my playstyle. That done, I went back on the long journey from Survival area to the bottom of Stark mountain (why does the name reminds me of Tony Stark? And now that I think about it, Heatran IS part steel, and is red...). Finally settled, game saved, the process of Soft resseting for either shiny/female with good EVs began. Tough the IVs aren´t that important with Hyper training, but still, I HAVE to defeat battle tower somehow.

In the end, I settled on this girl.

20170506_220852.jpg

According to Serebii gen 4 IV calculator, she has 28 IV in Special attack and everything else (bar Speed) around 23-25, Speed being 17. Nice catch, I should say.

Now I need a name. I decided on Jaroslava, which means Celebration of spring in my language. I chose this because she is a fire type, who doesn´t like cold (I mean, she lives in the volcano, for Arceus´s sake!) and I caught her in the time when even the last touches of winter are behind us.

Here is she with her brand new name:

20170506_224058.jpg

Well, that´s all fine and dandy, but she can´t storm the Battle tower by herself. So I needed a supporting cast. First that came to mind was Starmie. Easy enough to catch, strong, fast, with acces to Psychic and BoltBeam combo. Plus her typing complements Jaroslava nicely. As it is only for Battle tower, I didn´t concern myself with IVs. Just catching one with the right nature. Synchronizer helped and the first Staryu I found was the one I was looking for.

20170507_161221.jpg

Now that I have two members of my team, I tought it would be good idea to complete the fire/water/grass core. Sadly, Turtwig was out as I started with Piplup. In the end I settled on Roserade, as she is solid enough and the best available choice. Here the synchronizer was messing with me, as the fifth Budew had the nature I wanted (and yes, I wanted to raise my Roserade from Budew). In the end, I ended up with this.

20170507_161317.jpg

Well, it isn´t SHE evidentely (not that it matters), but has Poision Point as ability. I would have preffered Natural Cure, but this can help me hopefully get some lucky poisioning here and there.

The core completed, I couldn´t help but notice the strong lack of physical attackers. Well, there is one, arguably one of the best poke in the game, Garchomp. This was an easy catch. It was third or fourth encounter, and took only two Dusk balls (without weakening).

20170507_161230.jpg

Well, I have simply luck for girls with Garchomps. First my Rough skin Garchomp in the Sun, then Cynthias Garchomp (though this one was maybe presetted to be girl) and now this one... well, I hope she will do well.

Now, who could complement Garchomp and support him? And be good at his own right? As I play Diamond, there is only one answer - Tyranitar! Strong, bulky, but more importantly raises Sandstorm, which not only boosts Special Defense of Garchomp, but also activates his Sand stream ability. Plus, Jaroslava is immune to Sandstorm and can be used to cancel other weathers. That´s nice and all, but Larvitar in Diamond is Poke Radar encounter, and rare one at that. It took me quite some time before I found one. It was this little girl:

20170507_161251.jpg

Now with my support cast almost completed, I decided that the last member should be a wall. Not just any wall, mind you, but the greatest gen 4 wall, Blissey. I tried to hatch the Happiny egg, but didn´t have the right nature. So, taking my synchronizer, I went to hunt. It couldn´t be that bad, now could it?
Yes, it could. Chansey is very rare encounter, so chance of runnin into one are slim. Plus, it has quite low catch rate. Plus, it´s damn wall with softboiled. And another plus, it can have two abilities, one of which (Serene grace) is useless on her (at least compared to natural cure). In the end, it took me seven tries before I found one with the right combination of nature and ability. And every single one of them was pain to catch. In the process, I also got one with 31 IVs in HP. Yay! With Adamant nature. In the end, I managed to found one.

20170507_161256.jpg

Oh, did I mention NONE of those Chanseys had lucky egg?

Now with my Avengers Assembled, it´s time to grind... I mean EV train while I plant berries that would be later used for PokeBread. Now, thanks to VS Seeker, Fisherman Andrew is my best buddy right now. I never imagined I would one day be glad for those six-magicarps fisherman, but here it is.
So for now it is gathering daily ribbons and effort ribbon (once I finish EV training), while I am preparing for Battle tower and contest, gathering Accesories (poor Jaroslava, I pity her) and giving Budew his daily massages.

Seriously, I dread those contest and the baking of the bread. I am not even good cook IRL (I know, girl who can´t cook, what a shocker), but this berry mixing is pretty confusing to me.

Next time, we hopefully will make some progress towards our goal of getting every available ribbon from gen 4 ownwards to Jaroslava. One thing i already know - she will be looking fabulous!

See ya and thanks for joining me for the ride!

Pro tip, even getting past 50 in Singles battle tower is difficult if you don't have decent IVs and a decent movepool. (I know this because it took me a very, very long time to do it myself.) Starmie, Tyranitar, and Garchomp are all pretty good Pokémon for the Tower (in fact I'm pretty sure an "easy win" team is just those three), but even then IVs and EVs still play a role. If you're going to do it without worrying about IVs, I'd recommend at least taking advantage of the resources in the Tower thread and using AI prediction to your advantage to make up for IVs.

This looks like a neat quest, though, and I'll be following it!

So, I am opening this thread again. I decided on little change, and that change will be in the main star of the story. Instead of Heartan, it will be my Safari zone shiny Chansey. I don´t know about any pokemon more deserving of this quest. I mean, it´s arguably the rarest pokemon I have (bar event only ones), and has stats and moves to be usefull in battle. Even got her with third best nature (after Bold and Calm), Carefull (+SpDef, -SpAtk).

20181019_202328.jpg

She is holding Everstone, because I don´t want her to evolve (wow, never tought I use Everstone for its original intended purpose). Shiny Blissey looks just meh (seriously, what´s the difference between normal and shiny Bliss?). I gave her the final competetive moveset (unless by some miracle Seismic Toss becomes a tutor move again).

20181019_202437.jpg

So far I have obtained Effort Ribbon and Legendary Ribbon for beating Red in Heart Gold. Then I transfered her to Diamond, where she will be obtaining most of her ribbons. After visiting nice lady in Sunnyshore each day of the week she got all of Daily Ribbons as a reward, and after bit of training she was deemed worthy of Footprint Ribbon. Next we stormed the pokemon league and entered the Shinnoh Hall of Fame.

20181019_221148.jpg

Don´t you just LOVE the Heatran Staraptor dynamic here? Seriously, it looks like Staraptor is showing his head into Heatrans... privates, while Chansey is cheering on them!

For that achievment we got Shinnoh Champ Ribbon. That was all for the easy ones. Now onto the harder part.

20181019_202313.jpg

As you can see, my team isn´t quite ready to take on Battle Tower yet (tough Staraptor is just my flier, and will be replaced by Heatran for Battle Tower challenges), so I decided to try my hand in contests when I am bored with training. And let me tell you, I HATE CONTESTS WITH PASSION! The Normal and Hyper were quite easy. She already got all her ribbons from all types of contests in those two ranks. Ultra Rank tough... I don´t get as much stars in the Visual Round (usually only first by one or two stars). What kills me tough is the Dancing. I am just rubbish at it, and it doesn´t matter if I have the sound on and try to follow the music or if I just go by the visuals. This is what costs me victory. Well, just gotta try harder. She won´t be returning to Johto to get name (which I am still undecided on) till she conquers ALL the contests. Yeah, and Battle Tower too.

That´s all for now. Ribbons total: 21

I am here with another update. I managed to finally train my battle team, so we attempted the Diamond Battle tower. I decided on those members:

Starmie@Choice Specs
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 SpAtt, 252 Speed, 4 HP
- Surf
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam

My lead and definite MVP. With her variety of moves she could hit anything for neutral damage, most things for super effective one. Her shining moment was when she critted Ice Beam on +3 Stockpiled and +4 Evasion Cradily with about 90 % health, OHKOing her in the process. Thanks to her Natural Cure ability it wasn´t problem when enemy managed to paralyze her. For first battle with Palmer she swept his entire team - Dragonite with Ice Beam, Rhyperior with Ice Beam or Surf and Milotic with Thunderbolt.

Garchomp@Life Orb (for Palmer rounds Choice Band)
Jolly Nature
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
- Dragon Claw
- Brick Break
- Earthquake
- Crunch

Second most valuable team member. Her Ground typing helped to cover Starmies electric and grass weakness.

Tyranitar@Choice Band (switched for Chansey in Palmer rounds)
Adamant Nature
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
- Stone Edge
- Rockl Slide
- Earthquake
- Crunch

Very bulky, able to tank even most super effective hits and hitting like a truck. Setting up Sandstorm also helped to whittle down my opponents pokemon.

Chansey@Everstone (yep... don´t look at me like that..., also, she was only used in Palmer rounds)
Careful Nature
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Defense, 4 SpDef
- Toxic
- Minimize
- Softboiled
- Flamethrower

The one I am doing this thing for. Super bulky, tanks almost anything.

Well, you sure were right about this being the easy mode. Thanks to infamous Battle Tower hax it took 3 tries before I got to second Palmer battle. The first was a doozy. Starmie rulez. Nuff said. In second battle, he led with Heatran. I was like Starmie, meet Heatran. Heatran, meet STAB Choice Specs single target Surf. You can imagine how that meeting went. Next he send out Cress. I knew Cress is a wall, so I switched to Chansey. She can tank special hits like it aint no business and toxic her. Cress used Calm Mind. OK, so Palmer was trying to set up. Well, if worst came to worst, I have in the back Garchomp with Choice Band and Crunch. I used Toxic, he Calm Minded again. Next few turns were spending with him Calm Minding and using Psychic (even after 4 Calm minds it did like 30-40 %), and me Minimizing and Softboiling when needed. When Toxic finally finished Cress, I was at +5 Evasion. He send out his Regigigas. I used Toxic. He repeatedly tried to hit me with Crush Claw (I think), but didn´t land even one hit. So Chansey won the battle and earned herself another ribbon.

I tried double battle challenge, but I didnt get very far, only to like 28th battle, using Starmie and Chansey as a lead, and TTar + Garchomp in the back. Problem is, in most battles Chansey did absolutely nothing, just minimizing, leaving all the killing to her teammates. Second problem is, that my strongest attack (Surf and Earthqake) also hit your side of the field. So I decided to go back to the drawing board. So far i decided on Zapdos (have uncatched one in my HeartGold) and Garchomp for DisQuake combo, which should sweep the first few rounds. One of my backups needs to be Chansey, so that leave 4th team member. I was thinking Gliscor, but that would mean super weakness to Ice (tough I can tutor Heat Wave onto Zapdos and Chansey has Flamethrower. I need more solid team for doubles, beause I would be doing this challenge whopping 3 times - one classic double battle challeng, next friend double battle challegne, where you are supposed to team with friend with another game (this would be consisting of me sending half of my team to Platinum and borrowing my sisters DS) and double battle challenge with AI partner. Oh joy. So, if you have any idea for team, please let me know.

Well, time for another update.
Finally, finally we managed to get another ribbon. Yes, that´s right, Battle Tower Doubles are officially conquered! It took very, very long time. In the end, my team was Starmie and Garchomp in the lead, and Tyranitar and Heatran in the back (for the 50th battle Heatran was switched for Chansey). It was the same team from Single Battles, I just switched Starmies Specs for Expert Belt.

The last battle was nerve-vracking. Opponent sent Steelix and Bastiodon, I sent Starmie and Garchomp. I was quite happy with the lead and debated what to do. The logical thing to do was Surf and Earthquake. I knew Surf would take little less than half of Garchomps HP, while Earthquake leaves Starmie with sliver. But I believed that Surf can KO steelix, and to avoid hurting Starmie, I opted on Brick Breaking the Bastiodon, in fear of Focus sash/Mirror Coat combo. Well, it worked... sorta. I koed the Bastiodon, but Steelix lived. Luckily (or so I tought) he used Sandstorm. I was kinda happy... until he sent out his own Garchomp. Yep, Sand Veil. I was naturaly afraid of Focus Sash, so I double targeted it with Ice Beam and Dragon Claw. Steelix had so little HP, that Dragon claw would kill it anyways, if opponents Chomp was killed by I-Beam. Ice beam hit. It was Sashed variant. Dragon Claw... didn´t hit. He used Crunch and killed Starmie. Steelix used Curse (I think?). I sent out Tyranitar (Chansey wouldn´t have much of a chance). I want to kill Steelix, so I Brick Break it. Now I am in dilemma. As Tyranitar is Banded, what to lock it into? In the end I decided on Crunch, as it is 100% accurate move (unlike Stone Edge and Rock Slide) and didn´t hurt his partner (unlike Earthquake). And after I kill Garchomp, I can switch it with Chansey to reset move choice. So far so good. Garchomp Brick Breaks. Kills Steelix. Opponents Garchomp kills my Garchomp (don´t remember the move). T-Tar uses Crunch. It misses. I am starting to get desperate. If that Garchomp has Earthquake, he can sweep me. Not to mention his last mon, as I am locked into Crunch. If it is bulky steel, then I am done for. I sent out Chansey. He sents out... Claydol! Yes! If I can kill Chomp, Claydol won´t be a problem! I am expecting Chomp to Earthquake, but I am hoping that T-tar survives it. Nope, he... Crunches my Chansey... who is promptly killed. TTars crunch... hits! Claydol uses Ice Beam, but it does little damage. Next turn I Crunch Claydol for victory!!!

Well, I simulanteously attempted multi battle. My streak ended... at battle 49! My partner had Aerodactyl and Dugtrio, I Starmie and Garchomp. Opponent sends out Dewgong and Golduck, we sent Starmie and Aerodactyl. I am hoping Aerodactyl Rock Slides and use T-Bolt on Dewgong. Yes, Aerodactyl Rock Slides, hits both opponents. I T-Bolt, finishing Dewgong. Then Golduck uses Hydro Pump, killing Aerodactyl. He sents out Frosslas. And here I made a mistake. I targeted Frosslas with T-Bolt, instead of Golduck. This cost me the match. I am hoping Dugtrio digs, but nope. It uses Toxic on Frosslas!! Yep, that idiot did it. Welp. T-Bolt takes about half of Frosslas health. He uses Shadow Ball, which crits, and kills Starmie. Golduck uses Hydro Pump, which misses. I sent Garchomp. My plan is to Crunch Frosslas, while Dugtrio Digs. Golduck tries Hydro Pump it, misses, and next turn Dragon Claw plus Dig finish it, leaving us with the last opponents mon. That was the plan. Dugtrio digs. Great. I use Crunch. Kills Frosslas. Great. Golduck uses Ice Beam, killing Garchomp. Wait, what??? Yep, Garchomp is down, and with her the match. Dig does little damage and in the next turn, Golduck kills it with Hydro Pump.

Well, what can you do. At least I got the Double Ability Ribbon. Now once again attempt the Multi Battle, the last challenge of the Tower. Why last? Well, Nintendo Wi-Fi is shut down, and while there IS a way to bypass this, I want my Chansey to be completely legal. As for Partner battle, well, I don´t have 2 ds systems. And while my sister has one, there is a difference between: "Hey, can I borrow your DS for a few minutes? I need to transfer some mons." and "Hey, can I borrow your DS so I can do Battle Tower Challange? For how long? Well, I completed similar challenge in several months, so...". Nope.

Oh, and you know what else is special about those mons? Well, they are all caught from wild! Not bred for IVs or RNGd. Yes, they are all EV trained, but this is the extent.

159924

Yep, there she is, with her new ribbon.

And here is rest of the sqad.

159925

159926

159927

159928

159929

159930

159931

Poor Heatran, she did so much work and not even one Battle Ribbon.

As you can see, all caught in the wild, and not perfect IVs. This is proof, that even wild caught mon can conquer Battle Tower.

I have another update on this "little" quest. Finally, Battle Tower is conquered! Yep, finished Multi Battle today.

Let me tell you, it was quite an experience. Most losses were from getting trashy partners and/or partner AI screwing up. In this last run, most memorable was battle 44. The ending. My team for Multi Battles was Starmie and Garchomp. For that round, my partner had Gardevoir and Alakazam. During the course of battle, both Garchomp and Gardevoir fainted. But here I was, with almost full health Starmie and Myra with full health Alakazam. Our opponents were on their very last mon. I felt confident - Starmie is strong with wide variety of moves and Alakazam is nothing to scoff at either. They send out... Blissey. I face-palmed. The worst possible pokemon they could have. Next few turns were a doozy.
Alakazam used Psychic... Blisseys Special Defense fell.
Starmie used Psychic... Blisseys Special Defense fell. (Great! Blissey was left with little less than half HP).
Blissey used Double Team. (Oh, ffs!)
Alakazam used Psychic... missed
Starmie used Psychic... brings her almost to the red, Blissey eats her Sitrus Berry. (Ok, just need one more hit. And please, don´t Softboiled).
Blissey used Thunderbolt on Starmie. (It should be OK. It is Super effective, but Blissey doesn´t have the greatest Special Attack, so...) Critical Hit. Starmie faints. (Oh, ok. Now I am legitimately worried.)
Alakazam used Psychic... missed
Blissey used Ice Beam. It takes about third of Alakazams health. Alakazam is frozen! (Ok, goodbye streak. Gonna miss ya.)
Alakazam is frozen.
Blissey used Ice beam. Alakazam eats Sitrus Berry. (Ok, now he has two turns to thaw out and hit that pink blob.)
Alakazam is frozen. Blissey used... Counter. (Wait whaaaat?)
Alakazam is frozen. Blissey used Counter. (Thank Gods above for stupid AI. Maybe I have a chance? Maybe?)
Alakazam thaws out. Uses Psychic. Blissey goes down!
Uh, during that ending, I was prime candidate for heart attack. Talk about crazy RNG! But it went both ways. Without those Special Defense drops, I would lose this battle.
The final battle was almost anticlimatic in comparison. I used Garchomp and Chansey. My partner had Latias and Exegcutor. I hoped Garchomp and Latias would be able to win this one battle. I chose Garchomp because it can freely Earthquake next to Lati. Opponent send out Toxicorak and Loudred. Good. I Earthquaked, killing Corak, and doing good damage to Loudred. As I hoped, Latias used Psychic. Almost, almost kills Loudred. Loudred then uses Return on Garchomp, which does about 60 % damage. Next he sends Infernape. I Earthquake, killing them both. Feeling pretty good. We still have all our mons, while our opponents are on their last one. It is Shiftry. Good. Brick Break into whatever Latias does shoud finish it. Shiftry Fake Outs my Garchomp. Latias uses Energy Ball, doing little damage. It´s OK, tough, next turn it is finished. Or is it? Quick Claw activates and Shiftry uses Faint Attack on Garchomp. I am watching as his HP goes down... Hoping that I can outstall it with Chanseys combo of Toxic, Minimize and Flamethrower. But Garchomp surivives with milimeter of HP left! Brick Break then finishes Shiftry (and KOs her from Life Orb recoil in the process) and most importantly, gets her and Chansey Multi Ability Ribbon!

I would like to thank my squad. Starmie, Garchomp, Tyranitar, Heatran, you girls were awesome. Even you, Chansey, had your moments. You fought with all you ´ve got and it showed. You showed all those perfect IV´s RNG´d pokes that even common ones can do it. You conquered all the challenges, all the hax, and made it to the top. Once again, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Next stop: Hearthome city, contest hall!

Back again with another update. And that update is... gen 4 is oficially conquered! Yes, I managed to get (almost) ALL available ribbons. Just finished contest last night.
I am not fan of contests, and it showed. Also, I am bad (I mean really, really bad) at poffin making, usually getting about lvl 20 poffins. But that didn´t stop me. Oh no.

Those are Chanseys contest stats:

20190327_080329 - kopie.jpg

Nothing spectacular, but we managed. Sadly, I had to change her moveset from Flamethrower/Minimize/Softboiled/Toxic to Flamethrower/Rock Tomb/Iron Tail/Frustration. It was the only way to win.
Flamethrower gives two hearts, + additional two if you were performing first.
Rock Tomb again two hearts, but you go last next turn
Iron Tail and Frustration both give two hearts, + additional two if you were performing last.
You can guess my strategy. In Master rank I allways went last on the first turn, so with luck I was spamming Iron Tail and Frustration.

With my contest stats so "high", I allways get maximum of four hearts in visual, even with full accesorry. My opponents got minimum of 6. If I got lucky with the themes. The only ones I could go with were Relaxed (if my opponent wasn´t Jasmine), Created, Flexible and Sharp. Not much of a choice. I had to do quite well on dancing and have a lot of luck in Acting to win.

As for opponents, in Cool it was Fantina and Joanne, in Beauty Joanne and Jasmine (I think? not sure), in Cute Jasmine and Fantina, in Smart Fantina and Jasmine and in Tough all three. I can confirm that there is indeed Nurse "Casey" Joy with her Chansey "Pinky", but she only appears in Cute and Tough category. Funnily enough, she was one of my opponents when I won Tough rank.

Of course, I simply cannot leave you without showing my Chansey contest looks in each category.

Wait what??? I hear you say. There are 40 ribbons in gen 4! And you are right. The ones missing are World Ability Ribbon (gen 4 wi-fi officially no longer available), Pair Ability Ribbon (do not have 2 ds´s, have to borrow from my sis for trading) and Gorgeous Royal Ribbon (plan on getting it in ORAS, since it´s so much easier to farm money there).

I have one question: do I lose my contest ribbons, if I transfer my Chansey back to Heart Gold? I want to finally give her nickname, but I don´t want to lose the ribbons. It took really a lot to get them all.

Glad to see you were able to win the gen 4 contests!

You can safely send Chansey back to Heart Gold. The Ribbons won't disappear.

Thanks! Now I just need to think about a fitting name.

Anyway, in preparations for things to come, I went ahead and got a streak of 49 in both AS Battle Maison and US Battle Tree Super Singles. On weekend I plan to transfer Chansey first to HG to get a name, then Black and then to Y, to earn Kalos Champ ribbon. Then she will go straight to Hoenn. There will be 6 contest ribbons, Amie and Super Training Ribbon, Hoenn Champ Ribbon, Gorgeous Royal Ribbon and Battle Maison ribbons. In total 12 new ribbons. Then in US it will be 4 (Alola Champ, Battle Royal and Battle Tree). In total, I have 16 ribbons to get. Luckily the hardest ones are over with, and in Maison and Tree it is just one battle in Super category.

Ok, finally the last chapters open! I transfered my Chansey to Heart Gold, gave her nickname, and then to my Black version. She didn´t stay long in Unova tough, as she was promptly send to Kalos. Here i got her Kalos Champ ribbon, and transfered her to Alpha Sapphire.
First thing in Hoenn I bought Gorgeous Royal Ribbon (was farming money in preparation), and then went to Battle Maison.
In Singles Nita led with Purugly, I with Cloyster. Hypnosis missed, Cloyster Shell Smashed. From then, it was clean sweep, and another ribbon.
In Super Singles she led with Tornadus. He used Focus Blast, which brought me down to Sash, I Shell Smashed. Then it was clean sweep again. Skillfull and Expert Battler ribbons obtained.
Finally, I went to the Pokemon League. Again, thanks to my 5 lvl 100 mons it was breeze. Hoenn Champ Ribbon obtained.
Now I would go for the Training ribbon, which will take some time, as the courses aren´t exactly easy (especally the Super Secret ones)

And here she is, with all her ribbons.

As for the nickname, it has several meaning. First is, it took 13, yes, 13 turns, before she decided she wants to go with me. But it goes well with her Careful nature. Second is, you know the feeling in double battles when you are facing chansey, especially if she managed to set up minimize? Like you want to scream and tear your hair? Now imagine her, coming on the battlefield like: "Hi, we friends?" Cute little evil blob. :-D

Ribbons total: 42

Hey ho, I am here with the final update: that´s right, this challenge is officially finished!

After yesterdays update, I went for the Training ribbon. And let me tell you, it´s hard as hell with defensive mon like Chansey. Basic shots scored 84 points, fully charged 248. And the shots were kinda slow. She had only one black ball, so no continuous shots. For Secret Super Training I needed to resort to Strenght bags to even had a chance. The worst were the T-tar one and the Hydregion. But we managed and soon all the Super Training was complete.
Then I set my mind on contests. First I of course maxed Chansey´s contest stats, and equipped her with appropriate scarf. She won all the rounds on her first try basically on appeal alone. Quite funny, when on Diamond she had the worst appeal and won by Acting. Anyway, soon all the ribbons were mine.
Last one in Hoenn was Best Friends one for maxing pokemon Amie affection. It was soon done, and with it sixth gen completed. It was time to move to Alola.

In Ultra Sun first thing I did was to visit lady in pokecenter on Mount Lanakila to get rid of contest moveset and to get back my competitive one. Then it was to my most dreaded challenge, the Battle tree. For Super Singles I used Durant, Salamence and Chansey. My plan was to set up mence and sweep. The only thing that could stop it was his Lapras, who has eiter Ice Shard or Bright Powder. Red sent up Charizard. I hoped for zard X, so I could Earthquake. But no, it was zard-Y. First turn he was stopped by Truant, as mega-evolving counts as a turn. I didn´t switch Durant out, as I didn´t want to risk burn on my Mence. Next turn Heat Wave killed Durant. I send out Salamence, mega evolve and spend next 12 turns setting up and protecting. After that, Double Edge finishes Charizard. He sents out Lapras. The one mon I feared. Well, here goes nothing! Salamence Earthquakes and kills Lapras. Next he sends out Snorlax. Double edge takes care of that. Another ribbon obtained.
Singles were just sweep of my lvl 100 mega Mence.

After finishing the Battle tree, I went to Battle Royal. My second attempt was succesfull, with Greninja, Salamence and Chansey. One of the opponents had triple grass. First he send Shiftry. Greninja killed it with ice beam. Then Alola-cutor. Guess what? Yep, Ice beam. That overgrown tree didn´t stand a chance. The other opponents killed greninja. Next he sends out Venusaur, I Salamence. We both mega evolve, but Venusaur didn´t stand a Chance against STAB-boosted, Aerilate-boosted Double Edge. And with that, it was over. Battle Royal ribbon obtained.

The last one was Alola Champ one. With 5 lvl 100 mons, it was breeze.

And with that, I got all the ribbons I could get on my shiny safari zone Chansey.

Here are her IVs. Not exactly the best, but hey, that´s what Super Training is for!

In conclusion, this quest started on October 15, and ended on March 31. Almost half a year spend on this. What would I do differently? First of all, I would be using Platinum version instead of Diamond, and that´s mainly because of contests. In Platinum, you can buy high level poffins. In Diamond, you have to bake them yourself.
What was the worst part? Definitely gen 4 Battle tower. Not only in was as haxy as any other battle facility, but gen 4 battle system is extremely slow. And you have to complete ALL the chalenges.

So, this is the end. I now have 3 ribbon masters, one from each gen you can get ribbons (except gen 3)
Chansey, from gen 4, ribbons total: 52 (54 if you count contest and battle memory ribbons)

Event Banette with the move Cotton Guard, from gen 5 (no ribbons in gen 5)

Ribbons total: 28

Shiny flawless Gengar from gen 7

Ribbons total: 7

So, that´s all, folks, for now. Let´s see what Sword and Shield brings us. And with that, there is a tought on the back of my mind. It is great that we can transfer our mons between generations using PokeBank. The question is, how long will they keep this service running, now when Pokemon is moving onto the Switch? Because after they shut it down, we basically lose the ability to transfer mons between generations from gen 5 onward. So best transfer all our valuable mons from older gens soon, because I am giving it year or two, three maximum.
