Introduction

This is probably my last RMT till USUM comes out, and even then I'll be gone till like, February thanks to school. So I'm going back to my roots, using imo the best sweeper Mega (wait nevermind, that was 5 months ago) in OU, Mega Pinsir. Still with most teams shifting toward Offense and Balance, I feel right now is a good time to try out Mega Pinsir again. Also after I made this, I realized it looked similar to Mencemeat (aka Mr. Jamvad)'s old ORAS Magneton BO, god-tier team btw.

Teambuilding Process

pinsir-mega.png

Starting off with the GOAT mon, great offensive presence for both pressuring, sweeping and revenge killing.
pinsir-mega.png
gengar.png

Also another mon I wanted to try out, Z-Gengar. Just there as a measure for stall, like that exists anymore lol.
pinsir-mega.png

heatran.png

Heatran pairs well with Pinsir, able to take hits from and deal with most Pinsir counters, be it faster threats or Steels.

latios.png

Latios for hazard control as well as speed control with Choice Scarf. Also a blanket resist for things like Keldeo.

And I can't leave home without the defensive core of Celesteela + Water, but this time it's Gastrodon to check Koko.

The Team

pinsir-mega.gif

Pinsir-Mega @ Pinsirite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Frustration
- Quick Attack
- Earthquake
Mega Pinsir has always been a favorite of mine since late ORAS. Even though -Ate abilities were nerfed this gen, it still packs quite a punch, able to plow through most teams in current SM OU. The set is just standard SD with EQ instead of CC since hitting Magearna is more valuable for me at least. Use CC if you want, as this team is quite weak to T-Tar. Hyper Cutter is used to avoid Intimidate the first time from Lando, doing about 35% chip to it. Moxie is also really fun lol.

gengar.gif

Gengar @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Taunt
The defensive core of Clef + Steela + Pex has returned still as powerful as ever, so I decided to use Taunt Gengar to at least pressure it. The previous version had Band Tar over Gengar, but I didn't like the speed tiers so I changed Tar to this instead. Dual-STAB hits every mon for neutral damage, and Focus Blast hits the likes of Tar and Tran. But we ain't tryna risk these ungodly things, so I'm using a fun twist on it instead, Fightinium Z. Z-Focus Blast is a fairly safe move to click if a prediction is needed as it does major damage to most neutral mons, even OHKOing a lot of offensive threats. Taunt again, pressures bulkier builds and defensive cores. Gengar also provide soft hazard control, being able to Taunt rocks, spinblock and absorb T-spikes.

heatran.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 212 HP / 44 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Magma Storm
- Taunt
Let me preach once more: "Once Duggy is banned, Heatran will be the greatest mon ever." And it still stands, somewhat lol. Heatran is used on this team to check the things that can counter Pinsir that I can think of. Let's see: Latios, Tapu Lele, Tapu Koko, Celesteela, Zapdos, Magearna, Ferrothorn... Yeah that's all I can remember right now. Magma Storm traps shits and misses all the time. Toxic + Taunt beats fat shits. Stealth Rock is the last option, chosen over Earth Power when I realized this entire team did not have rocks. EVs allow it to outspeed Bulu and Bish while maximizing the available bulk.

latios.gif

Latios @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Trick
If there's one thing I hate about fast Defoggers, it's the fact that the best ones are Kartana and Latios. But Latios fits this team more, providing a Dragon-type for useful resists and a reliable Defogger for Mega Pinsir. With Scarf it also acts as a decent revenge killer for setup threats like Zygarde, Kartana, Gren, Koko and Volcarona. Trick is just for crippling fat stuff like Ferro or Celesteela if Scarf is no longer needed.

celesteela.gif

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Protect
- Leech Seed
- Heavy Slam
- Flamethrower
Everyone's favorite mon 4 months ago lol. Standard BS, Leech + Protect, Heavy Slam + Flame. The only thing different from the norm is the EV spread. I'm using a more physically defensive spread, able to live boosted physical hits while still bulky enough to switch into common special attackers.

gastrodon-east.gif

Gastrodon-East @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 SpD
Calm Nature
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Scald
- Toxic
With Tapu Koko rising in usage, only one mon can stop it. From the depths of Jamvad's ORAS builder, East-Gastrodon returns to literally kill your opponents momentum. Sp.Def Gastrodon can check Tapu Koko, CM Magearna and the rare Z-Celebrate Victini. Scald is also spammable because, lol it's Scald. Toxic is used to hit bulky Grass on the switch or sweepers setting up in your face.

Conclusion

Again, this is my last RMT before USUM so I just want to try out some fun but still viable stuff like Z-Focus Blast Gar and Gastrodon. I ain't tryna tryhard with this team so I hope you enjoy it using too. I actually haven't played to peak since exams are fucking insane.

Threatlist: Tyranitar, Kartana, Groundium Z Heatran, Mega Diancie, Mega Lopunny and friends :]

Hi JadedJellicent, I'm going to give my 2 cents on your team.

I'll start by pointing out the weaknesses I think the team has. Besides those weak points, your team is really solid btw so gj.
  • Your team is weak to zygarde, cb sets in particular.
  • Your defogger is choice locked which means its not reliable in keeping rocks off and using mega pinsir means you will want to keep rocks off the field most of the time. There will be situations where by you will want to force out the enemy mon then defog, especially with latios. Choice locked sets can be easily taken advantage of by mons like heatran and ferrothorn. When you attempt to defog on those mons for example, if they are carrying sr, they can simply set the rocks back up which puts you back at square 1 and sr has more pp then defog. In summary, scarf defog can be taken advantage of very easily and should be avoided when using mons that need rocks off the field all the time like pinsir.
I'll now give some suggestions to help with the 2 pointers I mentioned above.
  • Fitting defensive lando-t on your team will solve your zygarde weakness. I think you can replace celesteela with lando-t as you already have heatran and that heatran offers more to your team by being able to check celesteela for pinsir. The standard set of sr/eq/hp ice/u turn can be used here.
  • Run electrium z latios with the moveset of psychic/surf/thunder/defog. Thunder would help you lure celesteela which is a problem for pinsir as it's carrying eq over cc. Surf will allow you to surprise heatran and defog successfully on it without having latios getting taken advantage of.
  • Switch out gengar for scarf tapu koko. While tapu koko is a weird pick for a scarfer, it is a very good pair with pinsir as it can u turn and volt switch on grasses to bring pinsir in to damage the opposition. The set you could run is tbolt/volt switch/dazzling gleam/u turn. This leaves the team a bit weak to volcarona but with a bit of chip on that, pinsir can pick it off with quick attack.
Your team will now look like this, replacing celesteela with lando-t and gengar with tapu koko. Also I'll touch on the movesets of the mons I think would be the most optimal.

  • Standard pinsir set of sd/return/eq/quick attack, sticking to your original set.
  • Scarf tapu koko as mentioned above with the set of tbolt/volt switch/dazzling gleam/u turn to help bring pinsir in on fat grasses and also chip the opposition down once you remove their ground types with volt switch.
  • On heatran, you could run the standard sub/toxic/magma storm/ep. Taunt over sub could also work but this gives you problems with Mega Medicham or any really strong breaker that outspeeds heatran in general where you will have to probably sack a mon after heatran deals with the mon it trapped and eliminated.
  • As mentioned above, run electrium z latios with the moveset of psychic/surf/thunder/defog. Thunder would help you lure celesteela which is a problem for pinsir as it's carrying eq over cc. Surf will allow you to surprise heatran and defog successfully on it without having latios getting taken advantage of.
  • Standard defensive lando-t set of sr/eq/hp ice/u turn.
  • Keeping the same set on gastrodon of scald/eq/recover/toxic.

Your team is now weaker to tapu lele and mega diancie without celesteela. However, you still have gastrodon for diancie and heatran for tapu lele. I think now your team is better equipped to deal with zygarde and also latios will have more chances to defog successfully on mons like heatran in particular without getting taken advantage of. Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for checking out and rating the team. Thoughts:
  • I totally agree with Koko. In fact, a similar-looking team was built 4 months ago but I just left it there in the builder, and that one had Koko over Gar. When I finished making this one, I realized I'd just rebuilt my old relic. So I decided against Koko since I just want to try something new, cause most of my teams have Koko at this point.
  • Z-Latios is something I've been eyeing for a while, just didn't have the chance to use it yet. I guess I'm more comfortable with Scarf as I've used it many times, about two-thirds as many as Koko. While Z-Lati is used as a lure, Scarf is used as a revenge killer, which performs the role a bit better than Scarf Koko. I'll test out this version of the team some time next week before USUM, but school holds me back. Just sayin', Scarf Defog has been a common set for months, and unless the player is not that good, it can work.
  • Nothing against Lando-T on this build, I'm just against using Lando-T on all my teams. I'm trying to stay away from tryhard-ary before USUM (well I am using Steela so nevermind all of that). If anything needs to be said about Lando, I would recommend being faster that at least Heatran. Or maybe that's just me since I'm a god and I stay in with Tran to kill defensive Lando as they set up rocks. This ensures that the team always has safety against Tran, while still being able to check Zygarde to an extent. Band Zygarde doesn't exist anymore, plus I would be running Mew over Lati if I gave a damn about Zygarde.
So I will try to test out your version some time next week. Probably not since, again, studies. You can test it out for yourself and maybe post some replays here. Again, thanks for the rate and have a good day :]
