SPOILERS! Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon News & Discussion MK2 **Official Media Only**

Hey, just noticed you can go from Orange Islands to the USUM subforum (trying to open this thread) and you'll see leaks since the thread titles contain the names of unofficially revealed Pokemon (the names of UB Burst and UB Assembly? something else?). Would it be possible to avoid this?

I'm not sure if that's such a big deal because most people know of the new UBs by now, and knowing their official names isn't really much of a spoiler, either.

^ I have no idea whether they were the names of the new UBs or the names of other datamined Pokemon (e.g. PokeBeach posted a few weeks back that there may be more than 3 new UBs based on TCG set numbers/rarities/something). For all I know they could be a large spoiler.

No way to avoid besides never come into the USUM section for the next 8 days, just treat them as names of something. Honestly in the world of spoilers this is pretty tame and I apologize if this ruins your gaming experience to a great extent. Alternatively, you can save a link to this thread as a bookmark and use that to get here and avoid everything else.

Mainly for those of you who have kept away from datamined information and leaks, but there is a sliver of chance that we'll get new information tonight at 10pm JST. Even though, after the last batch of official information last week, we were told on the Pokemon JP website that new information is being released on November 10th at 2pm JST, that bit on the banner has since been removed. Personally I'm speculating that they might be doing it in the usual Thursday 10pm time slot to accommodate their major markets (kids here will be at school and older fans like me at work for the 2pm slot), but if it doesn't happen tonight, the removal might have just been an accident, and sorry to the Europeans who will either miss the announcement or have to wake up at (or stay up until) ungodly hours.

As usual, I will be doing my best to translate the Japanese information in case there are any differences between that and the English information.

As people said above, do as I did for SM: just bookmark this thread and go straight to it instead of lurking around SM areas.

I just use the link that shows up in my Alerts. Either someone posted in it or I can just click on Alerts to be taken to my list of them.

That said I have been to the USUM Sub-forum page.
First, back to Youtube, I want to give props to Pokeli for having the thumbnail for the Champion battle music be a giant exclamation mark. That said, he also had another thumbnail with Ryuki in it mentioning music for a old known building theme. Now, that's not that big of a deal was we saw in the trailers Ryuki in a building that was made to look like a building of that type in the older games. And who knows in what capacity these buildings are returning in, since the main journey objective of USUM is still that of USUM. All this could be showing is Kukui is working on his dream.

As for the USUM Sub-forum. It's my fault, as soon as I saw the names I should have turned away but curiosity got the better of me. But I didn't check the threads of the unknowns... but I did for the knowns. Names aren't a big spoiler for me and it's pretty easy to figure out which was Blast and which one was Assembly.

And then I made a bigger oopsie.

While checking stats, I figured I might as well check Necrozma's forms. I completely ignored the warning though being the others didn't have it I probably should have taken it as a clue. So the page loads, and I look down. *Sigh*. For those who also saw the names on the USUM Sub-forum and decided to at least see the stats of the Pokemon you know about while avoiding spoilers, don't check Necrozma's. It doesn't only contain info about his new forms, Necrozma has a fair bit new things done with it.

But it's no big deal, like with Mother Beast Lusamine I may be expecting it now but who knows when it'll appear and how. I've still ignored all story spoilers so I'm fine.

Doesn't look like we're getting news tonight. Guess we'll have to wait until 2pm tomorrow JST (~16 hours from this post). I'll be at work but I'll still try to watch the trailer (if there is one) and translate stuff.

EDIT:

New TV commercial for Japan:

New video released on the official japanese pokemon youtube channel. Doesn't reveal anything new except Giovanni using mega mewtwo x. So i guess which mega form Giovanni uses depends on the version you're playing.

Link to video:

Hold on, this video does reveal something pretty big: at least all three of Maxie, Archie, and Ghetsis battle the player with 670+ BST legendaries (Groudon, Kyogre, and Zekrom respectively). Groudon and Kyogre are shown attacking while not Primal Reverted. Dialga is also shown in the same context, but it's unclear who Dialga belongs to (if anyone).

If I remember correctly, this hasn't been shown before. I also recall a post a while back hypothesizing that Giovanni might have the only Uber, to make himself the boss of all the others.

Well if anyone would have Dialga is would be Cyrus. But yeah, this is major, the other villain leaders do have Legendaries (guessing for a lot of them that explains their extra Pokemon). Though looks like only Giovanni will Mega Evolve. Though, aside from Maxie and Archie, I'm wondering if what version you play will change the Legendary they have. They purposely show the player using the opposite version's Legendary:

Giovanni: Mewtwo (which evolve in Mega Mewtwo Y, though I'm curious if it'll evolve into Mega Mewtwo X in one of the versions)
Maxie: Groudon
Archie: Kyogre (the two exceptions to the rule... unless they make them version exclusive battles)
Cyrus: Dialga (Ultra Moon)/Palkia (Ultra Sun)
Ghetsis: Reshiram (Ultra Moon)/Zekrom (Ultra Sun)
Lysandre: Xerneas (Ultra Moon)/Yveltal (Ultra Sun)

Though will Faba follow suit? Actually it's odd, they advertise seven generations of villains (except for Gen II, sorry Archer but you have your boss back) and Faba is on the poster with the other team villain leaders but the ads don't show him battling. If he does, will he have Solgaleo (Ultra Moon)/Lunala (Ultra Sun)?

SPOILER WARNING ALERT: A video thumbnail at the end of this commercial has a major spoiler! Watch the video but before it ends refresh the page. Pausing the video may also reveal the spoiler.

Just to throw in some dialogue from the trailer I posted above:

Maxie: "Let me show you what will happen if you keep interfering." (only inferring here, the dialogue is partly covered)
Ghetsis: "You want to turn things around no matter what?"
Lysandre: "(something something) before that." (no clue, too much of the important text is covered)

The text then shows Cyrus sending out Houndoom, Lysandre Mienshao, Giovanni Dugtrio.

Guzma: "Exactly! We won't let you have your way! We have something irreplaceable!"
Ghetsis: "Fine, then I will crush you to bits!"

Sorry for this being a bit late, was too tired to do this last night. I'm guessing they released it an hour late because of daylight savings in Europe and North America.

There is more trivia about Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon in an interview with Kazumasa Iwao and Shigeru Ohmori in the official Pokemon website.

Among other things, they say that Team Rainbow Rocket originated from the idea of adding former bosses into the Battle Agency, while confirming each boss comes from a world they were successful with their plans. They also call the Team Rainbow Rocket encounter an 'episode' while confirming it's a post-game thing, pretty much confirming it's Gen VII's Delta Episode.

Also, they say that they try not to bring predictable changes to the competitive section of Pokemon... which explains a thing or two, I think.

Other interesting stuff from the interview:

...Our story writer felt like he could come up with a story featuring them that could be possible only in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. ... In the game, each of the bosses comes from a world in which they managed to fulfill their dark ambitions. Worlds in which the player character must not have existed. Playing with parallel worlds like this is only possible because of the existence of an Ultra Wormhole in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon.
Mentions for the first time that the villainous team bosses succeeded in their original worlds because the player character didn't exist to stop them. Interesting.

...Their personalities [of the members of Team Rainbow Rocket] are of course what fans of the series will expect, but I think players will also get a chance to see new sides to these characters.
I hope "new sides" refers to something sensible that explains why all these bosses would go to another world when they've already taken over their home world, and why they'd team up and become subordinates to Giovanni.

It wasn't a huge challenge to come up with a story so that it all made sense. Guzma even helps you as an ally during the episode.
Confirms that Guzma is your ally while you battle Team Rainbow Rocket (think this was confirmed before though). I have no idea what to make of the first sentence.

With the Ultra Beasts, Ken Sugimori, who oversees the Pokémon designs, came up with the concept of doing things we typically avoid when creating new Pokémon. For example, taking the soft texture of a jellyfish and pairing it with glass, or taking something that normally looks small and weak—like a mosquito—and making it super muscular. With these kind of concepts, we were able to create Ultra Beasts that give a very different impression to the Pokémon that have been created thus far.
This might have been confirmed before, after S/M released, but some interesting background on how the design of UBs differs from the design of other Pokemon.

Pokemon.com: Is Mantine Surf an homage to the Surfing Pikachu in Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition? Pokémon games don't often have action-oriented minigames, so what prompted the return of this concept?

Mr. Iwao: There were two reasons. One is that we wanted to differentiate the games from Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, so we wanted to change how the gameplay felt to some extent, and one way we accomplished that was by adding some action-based elements (that won't prevent you from progressing if the gameplay is too difficult, though).
Confirms that being good at Mantine Surf is not required to beat the game. "Some" action-based elements implies more than one (more than Mantine Surf)? Is this just referring to the Ultra Wormholes travel segment? (Does this mean any amount of precision travel through Ultra Wormholes is also not required to beat the game?)

Of course, we pay attention to the competitive environment and monitor it when making adjustments to the game, but we don't really directly respond to specific requests from players. We don't want to just put in things that players expect, but instead we want to be always one step ahead and implement things that players aren't anticipating.
More or less the kind of answer I expected. It's obvious that Game Freak looks at the competitive scene if at least to tone down overpowered stuff between generations (e.g. double-power Explosion in Gen IV VGC, endless weathers in Gen V, Dark Void in Gen VI VGC).

Mimikyu's Z-Move page here. It requires Play Rough to be used. I believe the English translation for this move is "Let's Snuggle Forever"

The next ten keywords have also been released.

31. Totem Pokemon's size: What really is the size difference between Totem Pokemon and regular Pokemon?
img02.jpg

This shows you using a Totem-sized Lurantis in a double battle.

img06.jpg

This shows you battling Totem Lurantis. Notice how it has the boost whereas your Totem-sized Lurantis in the previous picture doesn't.

32. Pokemon as masters?: In USUM, there is a trainer that calls his Bewear "Master" (as in Kung Fu Master). How tough is his training against such a strong Pokemon?
33. Sunglasses: A new feature called Battle Agent is available. Rent Pokemon from strong trainers and aim for the top!
34. 10,000,000 Volts: Use Pikashunium Z to power up Ash Pikachu to use 10,000,000 Volts Thunderbolt!
35. Bosses: All the bosses from RG to ORAS formed the greatest evil organisation Rainbow Rocket!
36. Legendaries: Befriend all legendaries!
37. Mantine Surfer: Kantai Beach (translation TBD, see below) has a Mantine Surf ranking. Nariya (Samson Oak in Japanese) with 15,600 points and Big G with 20,400 points are on the board. Big G? Could that be..?
38. Alolan Beauties: There are a lot of beautiful trainers in Alola, but which beauty is your favourite? (for the record, it's Acerola for me)
39. Macho Man: There are a lot of buff trainers in Alola, but which is your favourite?
40. Game Freak: Game Freak is in every game. In that building in Heahea City, you can even meet the game director.

Kantai Beach: I translated this phonetically from カンタイビーチ. While Heahea City is カンタイシティ (Kantai City, using the same hiragana for Kantai) in Japanese, suggesting that the two might be quite close to each other, the only beach in SM near Heahea City is Hano Beach, which also has a completely different name in Japanese (ハノハノビーチ, Hanohano Beach). So this sounds like it's a new beach that might just be named Heahea Beach, but I don't want to mislead anyone so I'll keep it phonetic for now.

I hope this is all the information we're getting today, since I'll be out tonight. In any case, it looks like they're saving the last 10 keywords for 2pm on release day. Also note that Coro Coro will be out in a few days, so be on the lookout (or hide from, I guess) for leaks and spoilers.

EDIT: Apologies in advance if my posts in here accidentally reveal anything that have been datamined or leaked unofficially. I do try my best to keep everything strictly to what has been officially revealed, though I hope you understand if I mix up what's official and unofficial when writing these posts. If I do let something slip, let me know and I'll edit to remove it.

I liked the interview overall, but really loved this part:

Well, that explains a lot. USUM player will be the first dex holder they face, those poor unsuspecting villain team bosses. Though did anyone try to stop them or did they just do their evil plan without being noticed in time? Which in a way is kind of sad, it showing that it is indeed only just a kid starting his Pokemon journey is what was stopping world takeovers. Where are on that, Pokemon League and International Police?

Though as Zowayix said, we still have some issues with why the leaders are acting as subordinates of Giovanni than being equal in rank, especially if they have Legendaries of their own. A big one with Cyrus, whose goal should have essentially made him a god. Also shouldn't all of Lyandre's Pokemon be dead?

I'm half tempted to look back through all Pokemon designs and find the ones where I can ask "so this design is acceptable but a jellyfish made of glass isn't?". Like, the UBs do look alien and not normal Pokemon designs for sure, but I don't quite feel that's the reason why. If anything each UB has their own reason why their design feels alien.

Mimikyu Z-Move:
Don't know what's the best part of that move is: them giving the target sweat animation, Mimikyu's blanket sized costume, the trainer giving Mimikyu the thumbs up (good job making them suffer a living hell!), or Mimikyu then just spitting them out once its done.
Does it do anything or is it just damage?

35. Um, no, RG to BW + XY. The Archie and Maxie here are their Gen III designs and Ghetsis is his BW "sage" design.
38. Hmm, who's my Alola waifu... none. Because I hate that term.
39. Hmm, who's my favorite husbando...

Big G? Is that Our Boi Guzma?

I... can actually totally see that.

Guzma: Ya see that! Top score!
Male Grunt: Awesome boss!
Female Grunt: You're the greatest!
Plumeria: Can we go?
Guzma: Not until you numbskulls try to beat my score!
Male Grunt: Wh-what?!
Female Grunt *pushes male grunt forward*: You first!
*Male Grunt wipes out on the first wave*
Guzma: YA DIDN'T EVEN GET A SINGLE POINT! You're making Team Skull look bad! that's a punishment right there!
Male Grunt: OH NO! Save me big sis!
Female Grunt: Actually Plumeria left while you were paddling out.
Gumza: Oh yeah, couldn't face the embarrassment of losing to Big G!
Female Grunt: Yeah, I'm sure that's why...

35. That would be my bad, they only said "all the bosses in the past", the RG to ORAS part was my own input lol. But including Lysandre, it'd be RG to BW plus XY.
