NU vileplume [nu]

Vileplume @ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Moonlight
- Sleep Powder / Strength Sap / Growth

With threats like Heliolisk, Sceptile, and Comfey dominating the NU metagame, it's no surprise to see a Pokémon that reliably checks all three make its way to the top too. In addition to its useful typing, Vileplume has tools such as a surprisingly powerful Sludge Bomb and all of Sleep Powder, Strenght Sap, and Growth, each of which can let it be quite the nuisance to a plethora of teams in their own ways. NU also has plenty of U-turn users such as Passimian and Xatu, and Effect Spore goes a long way in punishing them. While Vileplume's typing is mostly useful, it does end up giving it a handful of weaknesses; ergo, teammates that can cover these, such as Incineroar and Vaporeon, are greatly appreciated. Teammates like Sneasel and Slowking also greatly appreciate Vileplume covering the likes of Passimian and Diancie for the former and Heliolisk and Sceptile for the latter.

With threats like Heliolisk, Sceptile, and Comfey dominating the NU metagame, it’s no surprise to see a Pokémon that reliable checks all three make its way to the top too. In addition to its unique typing useful typing, other things have this typing too, Vileplume has tools such as surprisingly powerful Sludge Bombs and either Sleep Powder or Growth that can let it be quite the nuisance to a plethora of teams, each in their own ways. NU also has plenty of U-turn users such as Passimian and Xatu and Effect Spore goes a long way in punishing them. While it may seem odd that Vileplume's main set lacks arguably one of the most unique moves this generation—Strenght Sap—the number of shortcomings it brings make it undesirable, the move is inconsistent against special attackers like Heliolisk, bounced by Xatu, and gives Braviary a Defiant boost. Speaking of shortcomings, Vileplume ends up with a handful of weaknesses thanks to its typing, ergo teammates that can cover its weaknesses, such as Incineroar, Diancie, and Vaporeon, are greatly appreciated.

i think the strength sap mention is ehhh right now. you make it out to be a bad choice almost, when it is nice in providing a secondary (or tertiary I guess???) form of recovery, and it also helps vileplume a lot versus dd scrafty. so what I'd do, is I'd just lumb it in with the sentence regarding all the tools plume has that let it bug other teams. id also like a mention of pokemon that appreciate what plume can do defensively; think stuff like sneasel and slowbro
