Quitting caffeine! symptoms after 12 days

Hi There,

İ recently quitted caffeine because it triggerd my anxiety and stress to rise up. İ did a lot of research before i decided to quit but my withdrawal symptoms are not going away. it's day 12 now of my quitting journey and iam feeling so sleepy , tired that i can't function no more.

i talked about this with my doctor and she gave me vitamines like Zinc,İron III and vitamine B1+B6+B12. i started using those today 10-07-2020 but i didn't see any difference yet.

İ like to get some information about why this is happening and how i can prevent it. Because on every blog you read that the withdrawal simptoms last between 2 to 9 days its been 12 day now so i like to get some insight if someone can help.

Thanks!

Being tired is not a symptom of caffeine withdrawal, you probably have other habits that make you tired and you just used caffeine to make up for it. Try getting 8 hours of sleep, balanced diet, don't eat before bed-time, etc.

The good news is that caffeine is 100% not bad for you as long as you drink black coffee and tea. So its up to you if you stay off or on it, but it sounds like other things in your life are to blame for tiredness, stress, and anxiety (three things that a lot of people have been feeling this year).

i hope that it's not other factors because i didn't had this tiredness sleepiness a week ago. i don't skip any meals and try to eat healthy as possible. i sleep at 10 and wake up at 8 and i Don't have a sleap apnea so i can say that i get my sleep.

but like you sad 2020 everyone have tiredness stress and anxiety.

eh I managed to have withdrawal symptoms after hitting only black coffee hard (never any energy drinks) one semester of college.
Each body's response to, and tolerance of, caffeine is going to be different.
Also fatigue definitely is one possible symptom of caffeine withdrawal, though if you're not having the headaches, I doubt that's what this is and I would concur with vonFiedler that it's probably more complex than just the lack of caffeine.

I mean frankly I'm tired all the time for the last like 12 weeks haha and while I haven't gone to see a doctor about it, I think that mostly comes down to the vastly reduced amount of exercise I'm doing and sunlight that I'm taking in. Vitamin D levels are associated with fatigue, so if quarantine means you're not going outside at all, that could be a part of it as well.

I'm not sure the relationship between all of the vitamins your doc recommended and fatigue, but I would trust their medical opinion and give them at least a few days or even a week or two to see if they're helping. It's certainly not going to be instant, if they help at all. The evidence behind most supplements is pretty weak, for people with good diets.

if i lack those vitamines in my body then i think that it will work but its not going to happen instantly. i hope to see improvements after few days. like you sad maybe vitamine D can be the case because of the quarantine.

if nothing helps then iam going to drink caffeine again. Maybe the caffeine was prefenting my sleepliness to show up and now that i don't have any caffeine in my body the sleepiness likes to say hi.

If you do go back on caffeine reluctantly then I suggest waning off of it gradually over a period of time. Maybe doing 3/4ths of your usual dosage one week, 1/2 the next week, 1/4 the next week, etc. Quitting cold turkey could be really hard and make the withdrawal more intense than if you wean off.

exacly, iam going to wait 2 or 3 days if those symptoms doesn't reduce then i will use the method you mentioned.

Yeah I’d definitely recommend either going outside more or getting some sort of vitamin D supplement, in my experience (although I’m a very infrequent caffeine drinker) vitamin D deficiency just destroys my energy

i did a checkup of all my vitamines and all of them are good and they don't know why iam tired. so iam going to drink coffee again an look if the tiredness in the brain and my body, brainfog goes away :)

If you're enjoying black coffee, it's perfectly fine to have some, especially earlier in the day. Try to have your coffee at least 10 hours before your bed time, just in case you're a slow responder to caffeine. If you're sure you're not lacking vitamins/minerals, then your tiredness could just be a nocebo effect that your own brain caused. Caffeine is ergogenic though, so having some can actually enhance your mental performance (your physical performance too, but in larger quantities).
