[SET]
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Gyro Ball
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Toxic
item: Leftovers
ability: Heatproof / Levitate
nature: Sassy
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
Bronzong serves as a great specially defensive wall, comfortably switching into terrifying wallbreakers like Dragalge, Gardevoir, and Exploud thanks to its superb typing and bulk and setting up Stealth Rock to support its team. Heatproof is the preferred ability, as it allows Bronzong to more easily take Fire-type coverage from Pokemon like Gardevoir and Goodra, but Levitate is also an option that allows Bronzong to avoid Spikes damage and safely poison Pokemon like Rhyperior with Toxic. Gyro Ball is its primary STAB move, hitting offensive threats like Gardevoir hard; however, Iron Head is an option for stall teams that appreciate the additional PP in long games. Heavy Slam can also be used for its additional PP and ability to beat Life Orb Sigilyph with Heatproof. Earthquake complements Gyro Ball, giving Bronzong a way to hit Pokemon like Salazzle, Dragalge, and Copperajah on the switch. Psychic is an alternative that hits Bewear harder than anything else in Broznong's arsenal, but it does not hit Dragalge and Salazzle nearly as hard as Earthquake. Toxic allows Bronzong to wear down Defoggers like Mantine and Charizard as well as Pokemon that offensively threaten it like Golurk and Rhyperior. Protect may be used over Earthquake to allow Bronzong to stall its foes with Toxic and scout Choice item users, but it leaves Bronzong unable to threaten Poison- and Steel-types. A specially defensive EV spread is used so that Bronzong can more easily take attacks from the Psychic- and Dragon-type Pokemon it checks.
Bronzong fits best on balance or stall teams that appreciate a consistent, long-term switch-in to various specially offensive wallbreakers like Choice Specs Goodra, Gardevoir, Indeedee, and Exploud. Heatproof Bronzong must be paired with teammates that can reliably deal with Ground-types—Dhelmise, Mantine, Vaporeon, and Virizion are all effective in this role. While Bronzong's bulk is excellent, it lacks reliable recovery beyond Leftovers and can be easily worn down by powerful neutral hits; thus, Bronzong should be partnered with another specially bulky teammate, such as Mantine or Milotic, so that it can remain healthy enough to check the threats it needs to. Wish support from Pokemon such as Vaporeon and Umbreon is also highly appreciated to keep Bronzong healthy in the long run. Finally, Bronzong is highly vulnerable to Poltergeist and Knock Off users, therefore it appreciates partners capable of taking those hits like Scrafty, Bewear, Umbreon, and Drapion.
