Introducing...FlyChi!

This is a slight rip-off from futuresuperstar's GrowthTran thread. Credit goes to him for the design, credit goes to me for not being lazy enough to use it. =P

The Basics

This is a pretty neat set of offensive and defensive capabilities. This Flygon set differs from the normal, physically-oriented Flygon. Many walls will switch on, only to be destroyed by Fire Blast or Earth Power. Levitate is always a useful trait that helps Jirachi out in troublesome spots, and an electric resistance never hurts. Jirachi has amazing typing, having only two weaknesses; fire and ground, both of which are resisted by flygon. Yes, Salamance, Altaira and Dragonite also resist both of those and resist water as well, but they take neutral damage from electric, and with Metagross carrying thunderpunch running about, that resistance is very handy. It is essentially a Flygon version of SpecsMence, replacing Hydro Pump for Earth Power. Flygon also resists Jirachi's two weaknesses, making it a solid choice. Jirachi can Wish-turn to it, healing Flygon on the spot so it can keep taking fire based hits.

Earth Power is always a nice more on a ground type. It functions as a ground typed Psychic attack, with the exact same effect. Steel Types like Metagross, Jirachi and Heatran are easy bait. Heatran and Magnetzone, to name a few, take a whopping 4x damage from Earth Power. This is espically important because Earth Power targets their weaker defensive stat.

Draco Meteor serves the same role on this set as it does on the SpecsMence set. It hits hard and dents things, not to mention does lots of damage. The special attack drop is a little critical unless you have a Nasty Plot or CM Passer. With that being said, Drifblim and Ambipom make great companions for this set. Anyway, lets more to the fun part; it starts with a base power of 140. After STAB it becomes 210, and after Choice Specs it becomes 315 power. That's pretty powerful and unexpected coming off Flygon. If the Sp. Atk drop bothers you, feel free to use the next attack listed.

Dragon Pulse is an attack I wish was more powerful, although I can't have everything. With a respectable Base 90 Atk power, this thing is boosted up to 135 after STAB and 202/203 after Choice Specs. That's powerful enough to do some sereious damage. Use it willingly.

Fire Blast is the third attack I stole from Jumpman's SpecsMence. It takes out irritating ice types that might bother you with Ice Beam or Ice Punch. It takes care of grassers too, as well as Heracross. Choice Scarf Heracross shouldn't KO, although it might 2KO. It gains no boost from STAB, although it still manages to hit 180 power after Specs. When playing under the sun (and if you do I suggest scraping Jirachi) it gets another boost. Not to mention Fire Blast is Flygon's only useable special attack outside of Hidden Power, but you're welcome to use Gust instead. Just expect to die.

Levitate is one of the better abilities in the game, granting me an immunity to Ground, which is flying type without the bad side effects. Switch into Metagross and laugh as he tries to OHKO Jirachi with Earthquake, or if he tries using Thunderpunch on Gyarados. It also means I can come and go as I wish when Dugtrio is on the field.

Choice Specs are the main reason to use this set, granting a generous 1.5 boost to all my attacks in exchange for locking me into it. Life Orb has its uses, but the loss of power is too great and the 10% recoil isn't pretty.

Timid Nature and 252 Speed EVs allow for me to flip the coin with other Base 100's with max speed. I would rather flip a coin than know I go second, wouldn't you? Better safe than sorry. The Sp. Atk EVs add some extra umph behind his attacks.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Sassy (+ Sp. Def, - Spd)
Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP, 128 Def, 128 Sp. Def
IVs: 31 HP, 20+ Atk, 31 Def, 20+ Sp. Atk, 31 Sp. Def, 0 Spd

- Wish
- U-turn
- Thunder Wave
- Flash Cannon

The Basics
This Jirachi set is my own, although someone has probably used it before. Jirachi is the only Wish-turner in the game, and it should be used to exercise this advantage. Jirachi has Base 100 accross the board, and with its awesome movepool it can play a variety of roles, and your opponent never knows what is coming next. Jirachi's amazing versality is what makes this combo unique and fun. Plus, its too cute to ignore. =3

Wish is my healing move. It takes two turns to work, and thus can be passed onto Flygon via U-turn. Wish is also Jirachi's signature move, although several other Pokémon are capable of doing it as well, Jirachi does it the best because of his amazing HP and defenses, as well as sweet typing.

U-turn hits dark types like Weavile and psychic types like Azelf for Super-effective damage. Grass types don't like it either. After using u-turn, I switch out, and since this Jirachi only has 184 Spd, a lot of things outrun it. This means it can U-turn the wish over to Flygon without Flygon getting hurt. Amazing, huh?

Thunder Wave is a neat paralysis option. it does invite a speed boost to Electivire and an HP boost to Jolteon and Lanturn, but should be used for its paralysis support, which will help Flygon out when trying to sweep. It should be noted that both Flygon and Jirachi resist Stealth Rocks, and both are immune to Toxic Spikes, and Flygon is immune to regular Spikes, so switching in and out is no problem, since they both don't take damage in Sandstorm either! ^^

Flash Cannon serves to role of "reliable STAB". While Steel isn't a great attack move type, Flash Cannon deals nicely with Ice Types trying to throw a damper on Flygon's day. With Serene Grace, it has a 20T% chance of reducing Sp. Atk (or it might be Sp. Def), either making their attacks less powerful or yours more powerful, respectivly. It should hit Abomasnow for super-effective damage as well, ending that 100% accuracy Blizzard.

Serene Grace is Jirachi's only ability and a useful one at that. While I did not abuse it with Charge Beam or Shadow Ball, it still remains a useful trait for Flash Cannon. Another ability would have been better, but I can't get them all.

Leftovers are the best healing item out there. Healing 6.25% of your health, or 1/16th, they reduce the number of times I need to use Wish to restore health and half burn damage, as well as neutralize hail dmage. Keep in mind that these effects do not layer, so hail damage cannot be neutralized and burn damage cannot be halved at the same time.

Sassy Nature is my chosen nature. Jirachi is meant to be a defensive Pokémon exploiting a lot of resistanced, and Sassy makes it fit for that role. It is designed to take Ice assaults instead of Flygon, and Ice Beam is the most popular ice attack, so a boost in Sp. Def is what I need. -Spd is an added bonus in the fact that it reduces the number of Pokémon jirachi outspeeds, making wish-turning a safer tactic.

Conclusion
In conclusion, FlyChi is a great combination of Flygon and Jirachi that sports amazing offensive and defensive potential to rip apart opposing teams. SpecsGon is a powerful and unexpected sweeper and Jirachi is an excellent wall and support Pokémon for an enitre team. Together, backed up by a poential sandstreamer, a CM/Nasty Plot passer and handy a utility Pokémon, they have the potential to tip the scales immensly in your favor.

FAQ
Q: Flygon and Jirachi seem completly dependant on each other. What should I do if one of them faints?
A: Flygon will almost always faint before Jirachi because Flygon has to take hits and is dealing out damage. 100 Base speed isn't all that fast, so many things will outrun you. It is still an excellent sweeper, only it just cannot heal now if Jirachi faints. If Flygon faints, Jirachi still provides excellent support and utility options for the entire team. It just needs to watch out for ground and fire attacks.

Q: Starmie and other Pokémon seem to tear through your combo. Do you have a solution?
A: Yes, actually I do. Flygon and Jirachi are only two Pokémon out of a team of six. I suggest packing a Starmie Counter, a Sandstreamer, a CM/Nasty Plot Passer and a Tyranitar counter along with them. Remember, if Flygon and Jirachi faint it is not the end of the world, your other Pokémon should be fine. If you have a good setup (SR/Spikes laid down, Sandstorm running, etc, etc) you should be fine. FlyChi is just an added bonus to your team.

Q: SpecsMence has more Sp. Atk power than Flygon, making it the better choice. So why do you reccomend Flygon over it?
A: SpecsMence takes 25% damage from Stealth Rocks instead of 6.25%, is not sandstorm immune and does not resist electric. Flygon also has Earth Power which messes up Electivire, Jolton and steel and electric types, while SpecsMence cannot do much except throw Draco Meteor or Hydro Pump at them. In the Sun, GrowthTran pwns SpecsMence, but FlyChi beats GrowthTran with Earth Power and Fire Blast, unless Heatran is holding Choice Scarf. Both Flygon and Salamence have the same speed, although Flygon's defenses are slightly lower. Salamence can't much many hits, so it won;t make much of a difference. As an added bonus, SpecsMence is usually running a Modest nature, so Timid Flygon outspeeds it.

I will end this post in high hopes that FlyChi will be viable in the OU environment, and a better or equal choice over SpecsMence. These two cover each others weaknesses perfectly with their great typing, making a magnificant and possibly formidable walling and attacking force. Please point out any typos and give suggestions.

The perfectness of this amazing combonation...

Disturbs me.

I can imagine a weavile threat, but, another team mate could deal with this.

:)

This should get a LOT of traction.

this thing is pretty good looking. I'm not sure if the whole stealth rock thing would make me want to use flygon over specsmence. I'd probably test this. it looks like just the old specsmence+wishjirachi with flygon over mence. But them both being resistant to stealth rock must come in handy.

You did a good job of presenting this, but you're missing damage calculations. You don't need to bother with Jirachi, but you need to give calculations for Flygon's attacks vs. some possible switch-ins (Skarmory, Bronzong, Cresselia, Swampert, Milotic, Weavile, etc.) Calcs for Earth Power vs. Tyranitar would be a good idea too.

Hmm.. yeah, specs mence could be better. Lets look.

Why Flygon is better

-Electricity Resistance
-Stab and powerful special ground move > Hydro Pump
-Surprise Factor

Why Salamence is better

-Intimidate
-RAWR POWAR!!!!!

:\

Flygon ftw

EDIT:
Some calcs would help your case

Thank-you. I will go look up that formula and put those in. Expect them by wednesday since I can't be on tomorrow or Sunday since I should be in Virginia. ='(

I prefer Modest on Flygon. The extra power, combined with CSpecs, just makes Draco Meteor that more fearful.

Also don't forget a fighting resist with your other team members.

Timid is needed to outrun Base 100's running a neutral nature, such as SpecsMence itself. Until I run the damage calculations, I won't know if a Draco Meteor from SpecsGon will be enough to OHKO SpecsMence.

Hmm...I think Modest might be a better nature, as 259 Special Attack doesn't look like it hurts much.

Edit: Flychi just sounds like a martial arts...

I'm going to point out something. No one will switch in steel types (with the exception of Skarmory) because Flygon is part ground. Who the heck will switch in a heatran to take damage from a possible EQ from a physical set?

You might want to mention how Jirachi covers all of Flygon's weaknesses (4x Ice, 2x Dragon) perfectly, being part Steel type.

Did I overlook that? Oops. That's the other reason I chose these two, since they have so few weaknesses and cover them perfectly.

@R2-D2 Rules!: If you use it, you can make it Modest. I would test it first. Jirachi's wish and 100 Base HP and Sp. Def stats are why I use it over Bronzong.

@Ae Sakura: Another great point. Earth Power is Flygon's only other good special move barring Hidden Power unless you would like to use Gust. Even so, it makes it easier to deal with steels.

Heh, interesting. Thanks for the credit for the presentation, because it truly is modeled exactly after that. Oh, I would take "Option 1" out, because you only present one option. My GrowthTran topic had two approaches to the combo, this only has one.

This was presented VERY nicely, but damage calcs would be nice since I highly doubt that Flygon can do damage anywhere NEAR the amount SpecsMence can do. But, I could be proven wrong.

However, I am thinking about trying out this duo.

Small correction, don't know if it's been said:

You say that flygon PWNs heatran with earth power and fire blast. Someone forgot heatrans ability! He doesn't get PWN'ed with FB, he gets stronger!!!

I used to use LumMetagross lead + ScarfFlygon on a team. It was a time where Salamence and Garchomp were even more common as leads, and Scarfgon was a good way of switching the pace on them. Scarfgon defeated almost every possible dragon if it was following metagross.

-Choice Scarf versions would be locked into flamethrower/earthquake (to be used against gross)
-Non Choice would be outsped by ScarfGon and killed with Draco Meteor

I carried Giga Drain/HP Grass on mine though for Hippowdon/Swampert though (who were also common leads). It worked pretty well.

Flygon is also one of the very few pokes who can brag resistance to the ground/rock combo, and that saved me more than a few times too.

This is a similar idea I think.

I don't understand the reason for using T-Wave/Flash Cannon over the normal Zen Headbutt + Reflect/Light Screen/Protect, U-Turn already allows Jirachi to hit Abomasnow, Tyranitar and Weavile for Super Effective and it doesn't force you to split between physical/special attacks. I would also prefer Body Slam or Thunder over T-wave if you need Paralysis (although I would probably use a screen).

Nice typing combo though, and I love Dragon/Fire/Ground's coverage...
