Pokemon Legends - Arceus - 28th Jan 2022 *Official Content Only*

With the info we now have and your thoughts on the game's current state considered, what is your biggest lingering question about it, the one thing you'd like more info on the most?
Late reply, but I decided to say something here since the thread is going to get closed soon.

My biggest remaining question is how the overall gameplay will work. While we have seen several things, it feels like they have only shown us various small snippets. They have yet to show something more coherent (unless that was in the latest direct which I didn't watch). Since the game is going to be very different from previous main series games, how will "the usual things" work here? That is something I want to know about.

I am also curious about other things. One member was wondering if there will be trainer battles, and I am wondering about that too. Trainer battles was one of the things I really missed in the wild areas of S/S. However, I can sort of accept it more if there are none to be found in this game since it is different from previous games (maybe trainer battles weren't invented/not as much of a big deal back in the time period when this game takes place? Or something).

Apart from that, I wonder which Pokémon will be in the game. From what we have seen so far, I guess it will have a big focus on the Sinnoh Pokémon (which is good), but what other Pokémon will be in it apart from the ones we have seen? Notably, I wonder if there will be any Pokémon from Gen 5-8, outside of the starters and the regional variants.

And what about Arceus itself, for that matter? It is in the game name, but we have yet to see anything regarding it in the actual game. I guess they are either saving it for a big reveal, or maybe they are going to leave it as a total mystery until the game is released.

I am a bit more interested in this game than SP, but there are many questions left unanswered. Still haven't decided whether to get it or not, but I am looking forward to seeing more info about it. The regional variants and evolutions are the biggest selling points for me so far.

Around 95% of what we know of the gameplay is from that trailer you didn't watch, so some of the questions you listed were already partially answered with it(I would recommend watching the full version from the direct that explains many gameplay aspects after the cinematic trailer)

Late to this convo but I don't believe they'd ever do starter regional forms. I don't think they'd ever change the starters in any way that isn't reversible/temporary like megas or gmax. I'd love to be proven wrong but I'm not sure I will. I think they're not showing starter stuff simply because they know that we know what those guys are evolving into already.

That's true, I just feel like they'd show them in like casual playthrough, not necessarily giving them attention but like a quick clip of Typhlosion or Samurott or something battling.

There's really no way of knowing until we get confirmation of either but I'm leaning towards no regional evolution, because they also haven't shown the Gen 4 starters fully evolved forms in any casual gameplay setting. I highly doubt those starters are getting regional forms or Megas so it's probably the thing you mentioned or Gamefreak being weird.

That said I am hoping they get regional evolutions because it gives them all a chance to be competitively good/viable (all 3 were in NU last time they were available), but I won't get my hopes too high or be disappointed if it doesn't happen

They're also avoiding showing "late game" stuff in general, seemingly, and when they do they want to show off other Pokemon that match the gimmicks going on or Lucario, who is Lucario

you gotta show lucario.

Well, as long as it looks cool or cute

What if it looks goofy?

I think it's only a matter of time before we get regional variants/evolutions for starters. We got regional variants for sublegendaries already, I don't think the starters are too sacred to touch. Whether we get them in PLA or a future title is the open question. Maybe we'll get regional/old-timey evolutions for the unorthodox starter trio, maybe not. Old-timey forms in PLA seems like a perfect opportunity for GF to revisit that alleged scrapped alternate Charmeleon evo from the DP asset leak, though ;)

Hopefully we'll get monthly info drops and it won't be too long before we have more to discuss. New mons/forms aside, I'd like to learn more about those boss fights. I've seen speculation that these might be part of progress checks for moving on to new areas; if that turns out to be true it seems like there would only be a handful of these battles. It would be more interesting if the lightning producing frenzied mons periodically occurs like the blood moon in BotW, but I guess we'll see.

This. If they can make regional variants for the legendary birds, they can surely make regional variants of starters. If we don't get regional variants of starters (whether they be the Decidueye/Typhlosion/Samurott trio or another set entirely) in PLA, we will certainly get them in the Gen 9 games. It just seems like the net logical step to take after making regional variants of legendaries.

Stantler pattern on Mai's clothes. I wonder if it being "fuzzier" is just being stylized, but good news for those hoping this is a "normal" evolution!

I'll just say I am quite fond of the UI style.

And of the pink dress. The pink dress is marvelous.

By the way, the presence of Empoleon in one of the snaps probably will kill any pretense of "regional starter evo".

Oh and uuuh... new "legendary" i guess. At least I'm assuming he's meant to be a legendary. Rock / Bug eh :blobthinking:
It's a Scyther evolution.

"Noble" Pokemon basically seem like area bosses. Like there'll be frenzied Pokemon, but those are just like midbosses, but Noble pokemon are the ones you're specifically going to be tasked to deal with to move on

The website specifically shows Wyrdeer as a noble Pokemon alongside Kleavor. I imagine Basculegion & Hisui Braviary are as well.

OK scrounging around the website for stuff not mentioned in the trailer:
One such area is the Obsidian Fieldlands, which is resplendent with gorgeous flowers and verdant vegetation—what’s more, it appears to teem with Pokémon that favor meadows and forests.
Mentions one of the areas in the game. This migth have been old? But hey more you know

Pokémon Blessed with a Mysterious Power
There are special Pokémon in the Hisui region that have received a mysterious blessing. Some of these Pokémon, known as nobles, are particularly powerful, while others are said to willingly assist the people of the region. Your encounters with these special Pokémon will be a key part of your story.

The Wardens Who Serve the Special Pokémon
The people of the Hisui region hold a great respect for these special Pokémon and task wardens to look after them. The wardens protect the special Pokémon by making sure their territories remain safe and by providing offerings of food and water.
The images for this are for Wyrdeer and Kleavor. Basically they're revered pokemon for that area specifically.

Frenzied Noble Pokémon
A strange phenomenon is causing nobles to suddenly fly into a frenzy, making them incredibly difficult to rein in. As part of the Survey Corps, you will be called upon to quell the frenzies of the nobles.

How to Quell the Frenzied Pokémon
The bodies of frenzied Pokémon grow in size and shine brightly. Simply defeating these Pokémon in a Pokémon battle will not calm them. To quell them, you will have to hit them with balms made using these noble Pokémon’s favorite foods.

Dodge Attacks and Throw Balms
It won’t be easy to hit a rampaging noble with balms. They will relentlessly unleash powerful attacks at you. The moment you see an opportunity, hit them with as many balms as you can. Just like with throwing a Poké Ball, aim carefully.

Use Pokémon Battles to Your Advantage
While nobles are formidable opponents, defeating them in battle will cause them to be temporarily dazed, making it easier for you to hit them with more balms and gain the upper hand!
If you were wondering about what those pouches were, it's balms made of their favorite food. Cute!

Mai is in charge of caring for a special Wyrdeer that can be found in the Obsidian Fieldlands. She and her partner, Munchlax, grew up together as if they were siblings.
Prseumably she'll be one of the first ones we handle so we can ride the noble wyrdeer for the bulk of the game
Lian cares for Kleavor, the lord of the Obsidian Fieldlands. Though young, he has been given the role of warden because he has proven himself to be very talented.

Iscan lives by the sea and cares for a special Basculegion that makes its home in the area. He can be a bit easy to frighten and isn’t too fond of Ghost-type Pokémon.

Arezu feels a great deal of responsibility as a warden, and because of this, she tends to try to solve problems all by herself. She is tasked with the care of a certain lady Pokémon.

Mai seems to be Marley's ancestor, Arezu would be Mars'. "A certain lady Pokemon", eh?

From gameplay stuff:
-There's different pokemon based on night & day
-When you hit trees pokemon can fall out (well we see that in the trailer, but regardless)
-Alphas
The Challenge of Facing Alphas
During your expeditions, you’ll sometimes run into alphas: Pokémon that are larger than normal and have glowing red eyes. Alphas will chase you down and attack you when they notice you. They’re tough opponents, but they’ll become great allies if you manage to catch them. They may even drop rare items if you defeat them in battle.
-There ARE Pokemon trainers, but they're very rare
Pokémon Battles against Other People
The mingling of people and Pokémon is still not the norm in the Hisui region. People who live alongside Pokémon are rare, and people who lead their Pokémon in battle are even rarer. However, some people—such as certain wardens—have forged strong bonds with Pokémon and may challenge you to a battle.
gameplay_phone.jpg

Early on in your adventure, you’ll receive a device called the Arc Phone. Its distinctive appearance might lead you to suspect it has some connection to the Mythical Pokémon Arceus. This device appears to contain some sort of strange power, and it seems it will help guide you on your journey.
a smart phone??????? It has a map and s tuff.
