SS OU Stall to 2000 Team

formerly bookofchoke
My handle on psd is dunterdude/ cyberacc on Pokemon Showdown and to the other players at around 1600-1800 on SS ladder I am the owner of the "stall to 2000" account.

I am an old Gen 5 Ubers player (peaked rank 1 sometime in 2012-2013 forget the handle I used, prolly something crude) and decided to start grinding seriously again since I have been observant of the metagames as they've developed over the fairygens and the SS metagame felt like its one I am comfortable in trying to reach highladder in again due to the SS metagame feeling a lot like playing a less powerful Black and White.

With niceties aside, this is proof of my peak taken on the seventeenth of September 2021 with the account made on September the eight.

I have been taking the challenge less seriously as of late due to my tendency to tilt, I have been exploring alternative stall ideas (Shedinja being the main component as of late) but I come here since I felt like my team could make that final stretch to 2000 but I need help in finessing some of the stupid shit that the team struggles with.

To begin with, I went with semistall because I saw what that account how much u bench was trying out and seeing as the metagame has so many threats it feels like regular old stall just suffers massively against the amount of damage in OU making semistall preferable.

:ss/Latias: Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 128 HP / 132 SpA / 248 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Aura Sphere
- Recover
- Psychic

Originally this used to be Tornadus but the more I used it the more I fucking hated its unreliability so I went back to some old teambuilding habits and used Latias instead, does neat stuff like set up on Heatran and most dragon types lacking coverage. EVs are however just cobweb garbage: I think it came about because I needed to 1hitko non-choiced Blaceph after a boost with Psyshock.

:ss/Clefable: Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
- Soft-Boiled
- Moonblast
- Knock Off
- Calm Mind

Kindof standard boring unaware cm clef, nothing too wacky or different there. I run knockoff to troll cheeky shit like Skarm, Corv, Ferro coming in and I think rocks stinks on it.

:ss/Skarmory: Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Roost

Skarm is the spiker. Skarm puts down spikes and is fat. Skarm is my favorite mon to use because it is a spiker that puts down spikes and is fat.
EVs came around from me checking calculator and realizing that Skarm 2hits and outspeeds standard Iron Defense Magnezone with BP so its a tech option if I need it.

:ss/Slowbro: Slowbro @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Slack Off
- Future Sight
- Scald

Shifu switch in, Lele pivot/"scouter", Barraskewda annoyer, U-turn chipper. Slowbro goes over Pex because I honestly just think Slowbro deals with shit way better than Pex and is harder to remove on one front while not immediately dying to any +2 mon.
Reflect was slapped on because even though counter is clearly better I think I used it as a tech-switch for Clefable into dumb stuff like Rillaband which was popular for like. 48 hours.

:ss/Hippowdon:Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 80 Def / 172 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Slack Off
- Earthquake
Hippowdon is fat (STUPIDLY FAT) and being the dedicated rocker helps to load off the stress from my pink blobs.
EVs are honestly a fucking mess: I think it started off to deal with Bulk up Zera, then went back to fully careful when Hex dragapult was ripping up my team, then it just went back to being careful with some defense and attack EVs to not let stupid shit happen that I can control and counterplay (eg not hax)

:ss/Blissey: Blissey (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Soft-Boiled
- Heal Bell
- Seismic Toss
- Thunder Wave

Blissey is..... Look dude its just standard ass Blissey there's only so many ways you can describe one mon. Its Blissey. Makes special attackers weep.

Most people would consider a team like this prim and proper finished, boom, stick it into RMT, but I again want to take a team like this to 2000 and need some help finishing out kinks. I am also happy and fine with harsh critique: I have played competitive pokemon since 2011 but having this long of a time off to just start laddering to 2000 like its no big deal isnt really getting me anywhere and I need advice on what I can do to make this team, or a team like this, better.

Uh, thanks for reading. Love and kisses mwah.

Hi there. I honestly like this for being a stall build. Fundamentally though I think spikes stall doesn’t work well. You have no hazard removal, no anti-spin or anti-defog, and if you want to go that route most of the team needs to be boots / regen.

I think you should focus on the cool double wincon core of Latias / Clef and make this a semi-stall.. Maybe search last Gen Elysium for some inspiration. My two cents..

Excellent idea, I have built some variants as of late featuring only rocks with double CM as a wincon but the issue there then becomes "why not run X over Y and Y over Z". In SS you can only fit so many mons on one team and it dosent have the neat quality of the previous fairygens with Megas and Z moves: You're basically trying to make a rocking horse into a bronze bull.

I also have a bit of a problem as of late with Lele: Any neat stall-y mons that can fit in on that slot on the team without losing out on trying to deal with the rest of OU? Ive messed with Rachi (quad resist lol) but as of late it almost feels mandatory to run that with Pex and/or Shedinja to make up for the 2 steel types on the team

LeLe requires either transitioning this into full on Shed Stall or starting with a core based around Dark type (probably Hydreigon) or Corviknight. Up to you which direction to go. I am not a stall player or builder so I have no experience here to offer much else unfortunately. Good luck!

I think I’ve ran into you on ladder a few times lol.
I haven’t played much stall this gen, although I played stall a lot with mega sableye and still do in Nat dex but regardless I have played semi stall and can give some feedback.
Much like RaikouLover suggested, you either need to spam boots or have some form of hazard removal. In terms of what to run I would highly recommend :ss/regieleki:.
Regieleki @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Transistor
EVs: 56 HP / 28 Def / 252 SpA / 172 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Rapid Spin
- Electro Ball
- Ancient Power

whilst Eleki is not a stall mon, it’s bonkers speed tier and decent pivot ability allow it to easily remove hazards, and as a bonus, once a lot of the enemy teams grounds and other electric resists have been dealt with, you can very well sweep with Electro ball. And of course Rapid Spin keeps Hazards on your side of the field.

In terms of the team you’ve listed, AV slowbro acts as a pretty good Lele check, whilst sacrificing utility and some bulk against Urshifu and could be an option depending on how bad the Lele mu is. You could also opt to use GlowKing instead but then you need a dedicated Urshifu check (and honestly all stall teams need bulky waters). Skarm, Hippo and Bliss are perfectly fine. Tbh the Lat set I don’t really get, like yeah if it sets up it can do cool stuff but what does it really do over CP mew besides hit dark types? I’d actually opt to completely replace it with a different role personally, like a dark type to sponge FS and deal with hard hitting ghosts, but other bulky set up sweepers, such as DD/Sub/Roost kyurem or cp mew look like they would fill the role better. Clef is fine in doing what it does, stopping set up sweepers. No real recommendation other than a probably worse but fun choice in :bw/sableye:, which bodiesphysical set up sweepers with a combination of prankster burn and encore with foul play, either stopping it completely with burn, or forcing it to get to +6 and ohkoing with FP.

If you’re willing to go even more offensive, you can also run Bisharp or Galdos to punish defog with hazard stack, potentially breaking through one or two mons alone. The other four mons make up a defensive core that is just basic stall, although for these semi stall defiant teams I like to run healing wish so the defiant mon can have more longevity.
