Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl - Release 19th Nov 2021

Imagine if they just remade Platinum 1-1 except with a difficulty setting that effects number of trainer mons, levels, and moves, and added in some neat features like gen 8 modern type chart + moves. Oh if we really want to be ambitious they could have reversed dexit entirely, which seems pretty reasonable considering Pokémon Go of all fucking games has more Pokémon than the main series does. Maybe if Gamefreak really wanted to tickle our cocks they could, you know, listen to the fucking fans, and bring back Megas with a few new ones. Might as well throw in Pokémon following you since literally everyone likes it. You know, just remake the game but with better features like the other remakes.

But nah this is a Pokémon game we're talking about. I've never seen a series more disconnected from the fan base than Gamefreak.

Just a reminder to everyone that Renegade Platinum is a free Rom hack you can play on your phone and it does almost all of that stuff I just said. You can play upgraded Platinum without throwing money at a franchise that doesn't make games for you anymore!

Renegade Platinum looks like a fine ROM hack from what I've seen. But I reccommend that you avoid mentioning it as a reason that you aren't going to buy the game. Not saying that you aren't entitled to feel that way of course, nor am I saying that you are necessarily wrong, but it is important that this DOESN"T become one of the main points of discussion for the public to see when talking about why you aren't buying the game. When Nintendo sees stuff like "Oh, I'm not buying the DPP remakes since I get the originals and ROM Hacks on the internet for free", what do you think that encourages them to do? It causes them to take these sites down and makes it harder for everyone to access these ROMs or fan content, espicially since they also pressure site like Google and Reddit to take down anything related to this "grey content".

I've played Volt White 2. Drayano is good at making ROM Hacks... but they are grindfests, which detracts a lot from the experience - not to mention they are more meant to play with the "altered mons" version (the unaltered version feels like an afterthought). It's something I'd not recommend, and I can expect Renegade Platinum to be just like that.

I think this is kind of a weird leap...if BDSP doesnt sell well they wil not think "ROMS ARE TO BLAME", and I doubt people like Hands are so loud they'd get any more or less noticed than they already were

nintendo already wants to kill rom sites, they don't need any other excuses.

I think for me there's no real reason to get this instead of simply replaying Platinum. There's a couple neat new features of course, as well as those wild gym leader movesets and I'm sure certain Pokémon will work better with their new fairy typing and certain level-up moves; but by and large those are just small neat things against the wholly better experience Platinum is. I also felt ORAS was a little weak, but that one was a remake of a game before Gen 4 introduced the special split and the movepool explosion; before even getting into how it included Megas, changed up the story and characters and had a bunch of interesting new features. A DP remake had a lot going against it to begin with as the gameplay, battle mechanics and party/move options are by and large identical to what we have now without the gimmicks of the last few gens; but it still doesn't seem like much effort was put in to justify this game's existence as a remake. Even keeping the Underground and putting it online would have been a huge point in its favour, and I do know quite a few people who decided against buying the game when they realised that was no longer a feature.

We admittedly haven't seen everything of the postgame yet (Ramonas park? Hopefully Darkrai and Shaymin events are just in the game?), but as it stands it's just not offering anything particularly significant to get me to drop £50. If I even had that money on me right now (and I won't until after Christmas, admittedly); I'd rather put it towards Legends Arceus, or Bayonetta 3, or anything really. It's a shame when certain areas of the game certainly have some effort put in, but this just looks like an inferior version of Platinum as a whole.

Altered versions are only done to shitmons that no one was going to use otherwise. God forbid Vespiquen get Intimidate or Mismagius be half Fairy.

I wouldn't call it a grindfest. Just like regular Pokémon games you just use your head a little and you can beat most bosses. But if you really do feel the levels are unfair there is a trainer that you can rematch with 6 Blissey... and you can do it 5x speed because it's an emulator lol.

Or alternatively if you don't want to become overleveled you can simply not use that feature to avoid unnecessary xp gain, unlike another particular Sinnoh game. *cough*

Idk, of course a person's experience with Renegade Platinum is going to be subjective. I loved the buffs to bad Pokémon. It means there are a lot more viable Pokémon to pick from. Rom hacks often have a lot of fan love that we don't see in official games anymore. But hey there's always the regular Platinum rom. You don't even need to feel bad doing it since probably 99% of us purchased a Platinum cart at some point.

While I am among those people, since I was like 8 when Gen 1 first came to the west, you very very heavily underestimate the amount of the number young people that started with Gen V or later that are also active in online Pokemon communities in 2021, including Smogon.

Platinum came out when the franchise was about half of the age it is now.

I've only ever played Blaze Black and I didn't get very far. I felt that the strength of the random trainers was too much for how many of them there are, which made clearing routes tedious and annoying, and I was annoyed by the battle format (single/double/triple/rotation) being different among major fights. I prefer it when the games mostly stick to one format. I've thought about giving Renegade Platinum a try, and I've heard that it's supposed to be easier, but my previous bad experience makes me hesistant.

Anyway, to keep this at least somewhat about BD/SP, I do think there are reasons to buy this if you've already played Platinum, but it's a priorities thing. I'm interested in the potential team variety that the Grand Underground creates, the new Gym Leader/E4 sets, and playing the Battle Tower, so I'm thinking about buying this despite its problems and bizarre contradictions. If you don't give a shit about any of those things, it's probably not worth it.

Adding onto this point, not everyone that played Platinum still has it (I don't think I'll ever stop being annoyed that I lost mine...) and not everyone that doesn't have it is comfortable with Roms.

My problem with Rom hacks is I like transferring my Pokemon to the newest game (or Gen 7 because of Dexit) but I only want legit Pokemon and Pokemon from hacks feel hacked if they were found in areas you can't find them in vanilla, like a Beldum from Route 4. It'd be even worse if I found a Shiny because it'd be legit if it was full odds and illegitimate because of being from a wrong area...

Hacks feel off topic, so here's my thoughts on the Mythicals. Did anyone see save bonuses coming, let alone this? I thought for sure Darkrai would be the Mythical made obtainable through normal gameplay because its tied to Cresselia. (And I still think there's a chance it could happen after catching Cresselia.) Jirachi is a weird choice for a SwSh save bonus, but what Mythical works? Eternatus's Wishing Stars and Wishing Pieces at least gives some tie to it. Mew makes me glad that there's a "renewable" Mew tied to Kanto after the releases events for RBY and Let's Go. It feels right to me.

Edit: What if there is/will be a Save Bonus for Legends: Arceus too? Would Arceus or the Azure Flute be too obvious?

Is there much interesting confirmed so far? From what I saw from the trailers it brought back Houndour (good), but then a lot of the others like Slugma and Hoppip aren't exactly great or fun pokemon to use. It's early days yet so I'm sure there's some great Pokémon in there that weren't already in Platinum, but I'd be interested to know more details if there are any at the moment

I'm waiting to see how much they put in it, but I imagine it's more than what we've seen.
