Pokemon Legends - Arceus - 28th Jan 2022 *Official Content Only*

Another thing about Status Moves for the game mechanics is the style mechanic. So far there doesn't seem to be any advantage of using Status Moves in Strong Style. If all Strong does is boost your damage, Status sounds to be unnaffected, which in turn means you would always want to use Agile for Status, which idt sounds very interesting. Wonder if we are missing anything that could change that?

On the topic of Leech Seed though, me and some friends were discussing Voltirb and Yung Dramps brought up the possibility of it being a SubSeeder. Its site desc mentions it stores Seeds inside itself, and assuming it evolves to something at least somewhat similar to Kantonian Electrode, its going to not only have impecable Speed, but also have the ability Soundproof, which improves SubSeed sets since Sound moves no longer can bypass your strat (with the bonus effect of being immune to the main Special Bug STAB lol)
i imagine if strong works o nstatus moves it'd make them "more effective" in some fashion, possibly at some extra cost.

Like Strong Thunder Wave or Stun Spore might bypass immunity or give "super" paralysis, but might see a bigger accuracy hit. Something like Calm Mind might special attack by 2 but maybe lower your speed.

I'm dying for leaks, not just because I'm thirsty for spoilers, but because I'm worried about one thing. I'd ask if I'm the only one worried about it, but I know I am. Please tell me it's possible to catch Wurmple, evolve it into Dustox, and teach it Poison Powder before the first battle you have to win! If you can't do that, please at least tell me it's possible to stall stuff until they use Struggle. I didn't buy my title from the 12 days of likeshop just to become unworthy of it after just a month!

The higher HP and different turn order style makes me wonder how about how different battles will be, especially with Status Moves Only. I have hopes that it will at least be more interesting, even if it's just because it's different, and I wonder if they rebalanced stuff like Poison and Leech Seed for the different battle system or if the different battle system's changes makes them work differently.

Does anyone else have any unusual questions, worries, or hopes that they think almost no one else has?
Apparently review copies only went to their biggest names this time around; dont want an FNintendo situation to happen again. Even if some store broke street date, it wouldnt be long before the Nintenjas caught them

What I am surprised of tho is that we didnt get a new pokemon reveal trailer this close at launch. Usually the close to launch trailers show off the starter evolutions, which is what i am anticipating, but so far it has bell got 2 weeks and some change toen silent... Maybe i am getting impatient, too; after allm we sti go...i just want it in my grubby hands already

The final trailer for the SWSH prerelease cycle, which teased Runerigus and Mr. Rime, came out like four days before launch iirc. It's not too late to drop another trailer. Hopefully we get one tomorrow or Friday... god the wait is killing me lol.

Someone mentioned here H-Voltorb upside down would look like a bald man with a moustache, which feels like an obvious continuation of the original design elements for an evolution to H-Electrode. But then its hole ends up underneath and that doesn't make sense to me. So I've been dwelling on what Hisuian Electrode would look like if doesn't flip like its Kantonian counterpart. Like what if...I dunno...something grows out of its head instead? It is full of seeds and that blowhole is pretty important to its lore.

this is gonna be Hisuian Electrode

My niche hopes:
  • Snap Trap for Carnivine. He's a fly trap. He's Grass-type. This is essential flavor he's missing.
  • Multitype functionality. There are no abilities in PLA, but I crave Steel Arceus specifically.
  • Normal moves everywhere. I'm delighted they revived Body Slam as a TR. Now let's get Lopunny a level-up STAB move beyond Headbutt.
  • Obtainable pleb starters. Hisuian forms are cool, but I'd like to give Unovan Samurott a whirl too. I only played Emboar and Serperior in Gen 5.
  • The final death of Sinnoh hysteria. "Sinnoh Confirmed" was old in 2014. It wasn't any less old in 2020. Unova bros, be better than that.

I think he's made that argument in this very thread. I am tantalized by the prospect of the world's fastest SubSeeder with incidental immunity to Roar(!) and Bug Buzz. I am also horrified by what may come to pass if it somehow gains access to moves like Disable, Encore, and Torment. Some of those moves have not seen generous distribution as of late, but I don't trust GameFreak not to sucker-punch us with a genuine nuisance. This thing could put Whimsicott to shame.

Just saying, there's no point in showing off starter evolutions if they aren't any different from the evolutions we already have.

Okay, but :chesnaught: how often :delphox: do they :greninja: show off starter evolutions :rillaboom: even when they do :cinderace: have something new :inteleon: to sell us?

H-Voltorb seems so cute and friendly so why not continue that whimsy into H-Electrode somehow?
You telling me this isn't cute and friendly?

look at him! just a little guy! no thoughts, head empty!

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the only time they showed the final starter evos of a new generation during a non-remake prerelease cycle was during SM, which were (A) leaked months prior to reveal and (B) part of the reveal season where they showed off literally 90% of the new mons. The fact that they're not showing us Decidueye, Typhlosion, and Samurott has to mean something

A new trailer for this game.

Doesn't seem like any new footage, but on the other hand, while what I'm about to say may not be comprehensible to anyone who isn't well versed in anime/cartoon/video game VO peeps, I find it very surreal (and awesome) that they got the great Steve Blum to narrate a trailer for Pokémon of all things, but at the same time utterly amazing. His voice really makes this trailer peak hype, love it so much and he makes this trailer completely awesome.

Reminds me a lot of back in the day when Yuri Lowenthal narrated a trailer for the original Diamond and Pearl, which is something I only recently realized ahaha. Sinnoh really be getting the legends to narrate the trailers, double the W. Nothing like having top notch voice over to really get the hype going, especially from someone with such an epic voice like Steve Blum's!

You say
That but they did that exact thing for bdsp
I guess but I think there's some difference between a Remake where they stated multiple times they were not adding new things opposed to a new game that is confirmed to add new mons and forms (also the fact Sinnoh starters final evos were revealed way sooner, even all the way back to some of the first directs having them as plushies while the same not being true to Sam/Decid/Typh). In a game that is adding new mons and every new trailer about a Pokémon has been about a new one, it would feel very out of place for them to just make a trailer for mons we already know. Which leads me to believe they are hiding new forms, because if they were regular evos, I feel like they would have cameo'd in a trailer by this point alongside the other returning mons we have seen.

Said this in the thread before, but I think the supposed Starter Variants will be revealed pre-release (and at this point I am full on expecting them to be the last new mons revealed, a week or less before the game releases). Mostly because unlike new gens where they show starters and we speculate what they could evolve into, here they are showing mons we are familoar with and give people expectations of them just evolving into their regular forms. And while the surprise of the mons evolving into a new form might be exciting to some, I think with the starters specifically its best to let people know that they are getting a new form because they might make the starter choice based on what they think of the current final evos and the get disappointed at whatver new forms they end up with instead (specially in a case where they had to make a choice between 3 mons)

I was quite against the idea of starters having a regional form but I have to say, at this point the fact that
- we haven't seen their regular evo featured anywhere
- the starters have multiple times been featured *just below the level they evolve at*, and iirc once even above the level they usually evolve at
- the very odd choice to pick each starter from a different gen instead of just using the sinnoh ones
is looking pretty sus even for me.

Just uuuh if we get them I hope the hisuian decidueye looks less creepy than whatever that thing you have in your signature is :psynervous:

  • Will Arceus be restricted to the Normal type in gameplay?
  • If so, will the plates not appear in Hisui? How else could PLA impose this restriction?
  • If not, how do we simulate Multitype in a world with no abilities? Could the plates act like Oricorio's nectars in this instance?
  • How will the base power of Judgment reflect the presence of a new forme-changing mechanic or absence thereof? Will it remain 100 for continuity with prior games? Will it see a buff to 120 because it is so tied up in Multitype and the plates?
  • On that note, will Judgment be learned before Lv. 100 in this game? Will Arceus even have a learnset, or will it be purely a boss monster? :eternatus-eternamax:

Hey, remember when I asked this question? It's currently the subject of some Twitter drama and a grotesque game of telephone. The leak reporters are affirming that Judgment and Hidden Power will both receive substantial buffs. However, as far as I can tell, it's mostly scuttlebutt and he-said-she-said.

I am admittedly perpetuating the rumor mill in raising the topic here, but I think it bears mentioning because (1) this information appears to originate independently from Riddler Khu, who's been behind every plausible PLA leak thus far, and (2) it's important to me goshdarnit.

Well that was nice. No new mons or characters, but a decent closer look at some of the gameplay elements and features.

A couple of notable things:
  1. Nice animation of the character actually recalling their Pokemon when it faints
  2. Stealth rock does direct damage and (says it) surrounds the Pokemon with shards
  3. You can sneak up on alpha Pokemon

We also see Agile Style Thunder Wave, so I guess (unless there's another unseen thing going on) the only downsides to using it are the increased PP usage.

An actual optimized Pokemon gameplay after so many years. With this trailer we could see how outdated are the main series games nowadays. Still a turn-based RPG, but with a decent overworld gameplay.

If they port this style to new games and remakes, it would be awesome.

The best part of this trailer was the battle with Alpha Walrein. It looks like a good challenge, and I was thinking for nuzlockes, to make up for the lack of trainer battles, these Alpha pokemon battles would instead become encounters you can't run away from as soon as you see one. And boy is that a scary challenge. Your pokemon would get nuked by Strong Style Giga Impacts.
