Really, GF? Could you at least give us a different Kanto starter for once? How can I make bad jokes about assassinating political leaders without Blastoise?
IMO it'd be kinda screwy if the other Kanto, Johto, Alola, and Unova starters just never made it into the game at all even with DLC. For the last three I do get its mainly so people have a 'regular' Pokemon game to transfer the Hisuian forms too but still.

There's alternative mons with gun motifs. Just use one of Clawitzer/Inteleon/Octillery/Magmortar/something I'm forgetting.
More seriously, it's definitely a shame. Especially since Venusaur is the only starter that's decent at going for a status strategy and none of the gen 9 set seem to be changing that.
The Kalos starter trio really is the only full starter trio to make it as transferable to SV via HOME, based. Wonder if like Alola trio in SwSh the Kalos trio will be in SV's DLC campaign as special gift Pokemon in some way. Iirc the entire Alola starter trio was transferrable to SwSh via HOME and then they were made obtainable in-game via Isle of Armor's Diglett quest, wonder if the Kalos starter trio will be obtainable in-game in SV's DLC area in a similar manner possibly in the first expansion area they release.
And then I speculate that the remaining members of the Kanto, Johto, Unova, and Alola trios may become available in the second expansion of the DLC, like what happened with Hoenn starter trio with respect to Crown Tundra in SwSh (unobtainable in base game, added as obtainable mons in Crown Tundra DLC).

I wonder if Ash-Greninja will also be part of the Kalos Starter set. Its more likely that it will, given Zygarde's alternative forms were included, but with Ash-Greninja specifically, I feel it was more associated with Mega Evolution / Primal Reversion, which weren't brought back. There's also thee question of how we'd get Ash-Greninja without it just being a transfer exclusive.

I suspect that they'd like you pick up Battle Bond Greninjas out of (DLC) raids like how you can get Own Tempo Rockruffs, at least.
incidentally if they were worried about it being busted (it was, mysteriously, banned from competitive play) they could probably just nerf the stat boost.
On the other hand Ash-Greninja is transferable so they're kind of obligated to bring it back in some fashion at some point. otherwise it's a Greninja that's just trapped in Home forever, something that's a bit more noticeable than something like Spinda (BDSP screwed the pooch so Spinda can neither leave Home or leave BDSP lol).

The charmander image is most likely a fake: it is a redraw of an image that already exists. Box one is probably real though.

The slow leak of pictures for Sword and Shield is funny to think back on. We saw Rillaboom and Inteleon pretty quickly but it took a while for Cinderace to show up. Hatterene first showed up in a random screenshot of the art book and we didn't know its type
I remember when one of the Gigantamax Pokémon were mistaken for Eternatus. IIRC it was Grimmsnarl's.

It'll be interesting to see how this game does end up leaking. All of the new pokemon in Legends Arceus dropped all at once with the datamine, but if that happened here we'd be seeing around 80 new pokemon at the same time
It's at least nice that the pokedex for Scarlet and Violet includes portraits of each pokemon. Hopefully that will help lessen the problem where a pokemon looks weird because we're only seeing its static model (like Hisuian Typhlosion lol)
For documentation's sake, here's the PC box image from 4chan everyone is talking about that seems to be considered as the real one. Apparently the OG Chinese Riddler reposted this and the Charmander image which was found to be an edit.
It shows Sprigatito and Pikachu in "Team 1" and an empty Box 1.

Yeah but given Leon it makes sense why it is the save data bonus. Maybe it'll have max IVs like the Pikachu and Eevee Bonii?
I feel like it may be due to the fact that Battle Bond can't be passed down via breeding more than anything else. Meaning if they bring it back but make it so you can obtain it in-game multiple times then perhaps it will be unbanned
I feel like Ash Gren exists more as a XYZ Anime promo more than anything. Idt it would make sense to keep a mon whose purpose is advertising an already-finished series
Then they could've easily blocked it from being transferred to Home. Or reverting it to a normal Torrent/Protean Greninja like what happens to the Totem-sized Pokemon(outside of the ones only in the coding in USUM because they can't be put into Bank at all) when they are transferred to Home.
Not gonna lie, I think save data bonuses ought to be lame just because I find it inherently pretty crappy to be locked out of content just because you don't own a different game entirely. If there's going to be stuff that you just outright cannot get without spending 60 dollars on a different game entirely, it should be pretty mediocre and relatively easy to access without it, at least in my opinion.
Pre-order bonuses being special at least makes sense as a marketing strategy, and event 'mons as a form of promotion check out, but I see no benefit to save data bonuses other than just kinda screwing people over for not wanting/having the money to spend on other games.
I'm cool with them as long as you can trade for them like how all of the pre-order bonuses so far were mons.
And let's be real, besides Jirachi and Mew, who are mostly banned from everything in cart, all of them were trashmons anyway.

And to me a save data bonus is just that: a bonus
I already had the game, getting a neat bonus in the future for it is cool. And if I don't have the game, I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
And in this scaling: mythical pokemon are cool especially if you can get them early on since you generally never get to do that (+ mythics are typically event only anyway and dont count towards the dex so missing out on Mew didn't bug me) or they have some extra tied to them (the little quests in PLA were cute, getting the full Arceus event in BDSP was neat), Just Charmander is lame even if it's not available normally, but Just Charmander is better than masks.
I suppose i'd put Charmander better than the G-Max Eevee & Pikachu, though. At least Charmander evolves and usable all the time.
I wonder if any of the leakers have hinted at what you get for save data bonuses for PLA, BDSP, and Let's Go, if anything.
Where are you seeing that? I for one would be excited for Greninja to return. Just odd that they're not bringing all generation starters together. I think this is the first game without Squritle and Bulbasaur. Charmander and Pikachu are too big to leave out though so I see why those return.

I think at this point Charizard is third behind Pikachu and Eevee as a mon we can expect to be evergreen. Clearly it has a fanbase.
That doesn't seem likely to me given it was introduced in the same generation as Bottle Caps. It was also a unique case where it was allowed in the Battle Tower, so I think they're being *very* cautious about not requiring any games external to the main ones, even if it's the main game's demo.
Re: save bonuses, I don't mind it. It's a lot better than time-limited early bird events, or requiring games that aren't main series. A lot of people can just borrow the game from a friend, it doesn't matter if you subsequently sell or return the game, and I'd wager most people who are into the series enough to be super fussed about those bonuses are already buying most of these games anyway. I do, in particular, like that they're generally limiting it to the two most recent main series releases (maybe three for this one, if PLA, BDSP and SwSh all have bonuses, but honestly I think odds are decent that at least one of those doesn't).
