SPOILERS! Scarlet & Violet Leaks Thread - Data/Mechanics

Just the typing and bulk make it really good. Obviously lack of dark good moves is a problem but you're right, it's really decent.
It got Crunch and Throat chop. The only "better dark move" in term of pure power Moon could resonably get (aka "not wicked blow") is Darkest lariat. Roaring moon got one of the best physical dark stab. It is a type problem, not a him problem. And 80BP 100% accuracy is still pretty decent. Sucker punch or Knock off would have been nice tho.

They activate the abilities of the Paradox Pokemon. Unless the boost is like x1.5, which case it's not as strong and probably not ban worthy.

Yeah, that's what I mean. I think 1.5x is about the upper end of what Protosynthesis and Quark Drive could provide, and it might even be smaller given they went to the trouble of making it not a visible stat boost. They're definitely not Swift Swim clones from what we know.

Seems like they're trying to make Knock Off more of a defensive Pokemon thing judging by the fact Weavile, Roaring Moon and Chien-Pao all got passed over for it.

What I don't get with all these nerfs... why not Intimidate?

I mean, every season of VGC has like 50%+ usage on an Intimidate 'mon (if not Incineroar it's Landorus-T, if not those two it'd be Arcanine or Hitmontop). Yet it never got directly nerfed? Even when Protean does, even when Gale Wings and Intrepid Sword does.
I'm starting to get convinced Intimidate was concocted by Masuda and it says in the company ledger "absolutely no touching Intimidate" 'cause it's starting to not make sense anymore.

Intimidate actually got a bunch of nerfs in gen 8, just not direct ones.

Many pokemon were released with anti-intimidate abilities.
Many abilities now make you immune to intimidate without stating it (including legendary-used ones).

There's also a bunch of pokemon this gen that got new anti-intimidate abilities, and if you noticed, the most notable offender of intimidate, Incineroar, is actually not in the dex.

I don't know. Khu or Centro did say they were like Chlorophyll but busted. So having a boost that's 1.2x for abilities only activated during Sun/E-Terrain or with a consumable would be unrealistic, especially since most of these Pokemon look like they are meant to abuser these Weathers.

To be fair "Clorophyl but boosts your best stat instead of speed" sounds pretty busted to me.

Last I checked, a certain pokemon getting +1 attack on every switch was the first ever after Mega Ray to be banished to AG.
Oops. I didn't see Energy Ball there. My bad.
It also gets Discharge btw, and for what matters, its ability-related condition is Electric Terrain

So assuming Tera functions as adaptability on same type forms... Normal Tera Dudunsparce

252+ SpA Choice Specs Normal Tera Dudunsparce Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Skarmory: 250-295 (74.8 - 88.3%)

252+ SpA Choice Specs Normal Tera Dudunsparce Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 290-342 (40.6 - 47.8%) -- 59% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Choice Specs Normal Tera Dudunsparce Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Hippowdon: 334-394 (79.5 - 93.8%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Choice Specs Normal Tera Dudunsparce Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Toxapex: 276-326 (90.7 - 107.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Choice Specs Normal Tera Dudunsparce Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ferrothorn: 165-195 (46.8 - 55.3%) -- 74.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Still hits hard even once Tera gets Dynamax'd out of OU.

Amazing what having a base 140 power STAB move can do for a mon, lmao.

Intimidate is one of the best and more interesting abilities in Pokémon, but it's not broken. And before anything, no, I don't think gale wings, per se, is broken either. We have a bunch of truly broken abilities when in the hands of the appropiate mon, but how would you nerf intimidate, for example? It already lowers the opposing mom attack with the lowest possible value (-1). Making it a once per battle use? That's trash. While being good, reducing the opposing mom attack just 1 time in an entire battle does not equal other abilities. Sheer Force gives you a permanent 30% boost, speed boosting abilities double your speed with just weather infinitely, you have things like regenerator, heck, even things like tinted lens. Why would I have a ability that diminishes opposing mon attack in 1 level once in the entire battle when i can be hitting NVE things for neutral damage the entirety of it. Flame Body.... I don't know, literally any ability that works for the entirety of the battle is inmensely better. One time use abilities should only be appropiate for obviously broken things that can impact the game as a whole in a more direct sense. Example, Protean. And even Protean has not been nerfed that badly.

That's not a direct nerf, though. If you use that reasoning they could've let Gale Wings be Gale Wings and just made more Dazzling/Queenly Majesty/Psychic Surge 'mons and gotten a similar effect.

And even if they buffed Oblivious/Scrappy/etc., it doesn't take away the matter that it did NOTHING to lessen the impact of Intimidate since Incineroar is looking at 75% usage.
I'm not saying it should be banned but considering they nerfed the ever living hell out of Pokémon/Abilities that were never as omnipresent as Intimidate, it's starting to just look weird IMO. It's like they're going out of their way to not touch it.

139 attack, 119 speed, solid bulk (in fact a massive 105/101 special bulk) plenty of coverage, dragon dance, potential free +1 on switch, even gets u-turn, and you're looking at the fact it has "bad dark stabs"?

has to be a troll.

No 4x ice weakness so it isn't immediately revenge killed by Pao or Weavile at +2/+1 as well. It certainly has major issues and will need help in the form of a couple bans but I don't see this thing remaining indefinitely in a healthy OU. It and Sneasler are best friends.

Is there any chance that Slither Wing(Past Volcarona) is viable in OU? Going to be honest, it's looking like the worst paradox mon out of all of them which is a shame because its design is sick

Not even close. It is vaguely analogous to Buzzwole but with a Sun boosted Flare Blitz and +1 on entry. Being viable in OU (in TYOL 2022 where standard is just Ubers Jr.) is not the be-all end-all of what constitutes a great mon. There are plenty of good, well designed mons as low as RU now. (e.g. Heracross – and this is easily better. Now imagine Heracross dropping to NU and what that says about where power levels are.)

Brute Bonnet is quite easily the worst.

I don't know of any change about Clorophyl, I just meant that even a +1 to stat rather than +2 is enough to consider the ability "busted"

Maybe not busted, but not nerfed either lol. +1 in speed instead of x2 in speed is insanly harsh. But for some fast pokemons, just a +1 Atk boost could be insane too.

Not a direct nerf is still a nerf.

Gamefreak going full throttle on hyper offence is super interesting to me. Scald is gone, teleport is gone, potential for a move dexit nerfing mainly defensive mons, and recovery all being nerfed are direct targeted changes. Not to mention most of the new Pokémon being hyper offensive, and the defensive ones largely being support. Will love to see how this plays out.
How do you expect this to play out? Send in a mon, the faster one deletes the slower one, send in a faster mon to delete the one who just deleted your mon, rinse and repeat 5 other times. Maybe throw some hazards around so the deleting is faster.
