If Miltank had 'cow' in its name I would have hated the translation team forever. 'Marion' sounds better than 'cow' to put in a name, it's also a little less obvious.

I keep wanting to call it 'Marionetta' but it sounds a bit too feminine.

Shuppet = a play on the words Shadow and Puppet while Banette = a play on the words Banter or Bane and Marionette.

So the evo should should have a play on a relatively dark word...or use one of the pokemon's features and use it like how I had Hanged and Marionette to make Hangette ... also sounds like hang it.

Noctette.

The root noct refers to darkness and it also follows the two syllable code from the other two.

Vendetta! xD

Noctette, I can't see it working. It's not really a ghost of darkness, it's a ghost of grudges, vengance, and spite.

Malevette, malevolence and marionette

Vengette, revenge

Meh, following the -ette theme really kinda restricts names a bit.

Marionetto
or
Marionetta
both could work. we could change the last letter for male and female. kinda like how pokemon change their shape as male or female.

True, must be the reason why Nintendo hasn't made their own evo for Banette....the naming for the next evo would be strange.

Maybe if I check the Thesaurus for another word for marionette we can use that as a replacement for "et" endings.

Concept starting words, Banshee, Shriek, Ghoul, Lynch. I'd have more but I'm kinda lazy with this part. *might have more later when I think about it.....

Bannete is a play of the word "Banter" or "Bane" and Shuppet is "Shadow" as I said before....so, we either go the banette way with a ghoulish sound, or shuppet way with a dark word.

Naming might as well be one of the hardest parts of making the pokemon
; ~ ;

Just call it Bigbannettewithwood, why dontcha. I'd call it something like Sombrangle, personally: sombre = "grave"/ombre = "shadow" + dangle/tangle.

I keep wanting to call it 'Marionetta' but it sounds a bit too feminine.
What's wrong with a feminine sounding name? Other than that it will offend 13-year-old boys with too much testosterone who want this Pokemon to be named 'Scarfucker'. I suppose you also think that male Gardevoirs and Roserades are 'wrong'. Such a silly way to not-deal with gender.

Anyhow, here's a update on the rapier/fencing concept.

I still like usage of 'vendetta'. It fits with the theme and 'marionette'.

Thesaurus time!

EDIT: Fantoccino, pronounced fan-tuh-CHEE-noh, is another word for marionette. The first part also sounds somewhat like 'phantom'.

That's a great suggestion. It's Italian, like it looks.

ETYMOLOGY:Italian, pl. of fantoccino, diminutive of fantoccio, puppet, augmentative of fante, child, short for infante, from Latin

nfant-
, infant. See infant.
I see that etymologically it's not related to phantom, either. Fantoccino is from Latin's infans = child, whereas phantom is from Greek's phantos = visible.

It's a bit sad that everyone has already focused in on KoA's design. Is it because it's insanely original, because he's well-known, or because everyone's been waiting for Banette to get a marionette evo since it was released and its exciting to see it happen just the way they expected?

I'm thinking that people are focusing on KoA's design the most, simply because it looks the most like a Ghost/Fighting pokemon, which is what they're trying to get.

I think it's a bit of all three.

I know the word isn't from 'phantom' but it does sound like it. Like how the 'gard' in Gardevoir is not from 'guard' but from the French 'regarder', meaning 'to look'.

Oh, no, I think it's good that it's not related to phantom, sorry I didn't spell that out better. Makes it more pun-like. Pokemon is full of puns (and bad English, like 'Your Pokemon are growing up good'.

Well, I really didn't think I was all that well-known. :/

Also, I'm still doing a design for an original Ghost/Fighting type. That was only my shot to put an evo idea in the air.

I'm looking forward to that a lot. The only problem I really have with your Banette evo is that it looks exactly as I imagined a Banette evo would look. I like surprisingly evolutions, I sure as heck didn't expect Mamoswine, for example (although in retrospect I should have).

I don't have a problem with feminimity. I just thought no one else would like it. I like it or else I wouldn't have posted it.

Plus I really want something based on 'vendetta' now.

Vendegrave (vendetta + grave) combines nicely. It looks oddly like vengence, and 'degrave' rhymes nicely with the word degrade (as corpses do). There is a lot going on there. People might want a shorter, snappier name though.

simply because it looks the most like a Ghost/Fighting pokemon, which is what they're trying to get.
I think all the designs posted so far look like ghost/fighting ones, even the bad ones. I don't think KoA's looks much like a fighting type, but it looks like it might move like a fighting type, which is close enough to being the same thing.

Well hey, if you make it mad, it can smack you with a stick. :/

I'm not really particularly good with names, so you guys keep fiddling around. We're bound to strike gold eventually! Try dabbling in other languages too.

It does suck at sentances, but it works pretty well for single words. You sometimes have to put them in a sentance for it to figure out the tense though.

Mementori, from memento mori (reminder of death). Moriette also, in the same vein.

EDIT: Hey! I made my way into my first signature. Really feeling welcome around here.
