The world isn't ready. Tremble in fear before your new god, Tera Grass Gholdengo.
If only it had a grass move... I hate running Tera Blast, it leaves you with a garbage move until you Tera.

Speaking of grass moves, watch me run Grass Knot Lando and 2HKO Tusk and Dozo while they switch in. I'm telling y'all, you heard it from me FIRST.

This is a genuine question, but has there ever been a single Pokemon using a Stored Power set that wasn't a dumb gimmick or matchup fish or straight up overwhelming?

all I can think of are things like shift gear WP magearna, or memes like cosmic power clef/mew. not the pinnacle of fun sets to play against.

I'm not saying Espathra deserves any special treatment and should avoid the ban or anything, I'm just wondering if Stored Power might eventually end up being considered uncompetitive at one point if more mons end up using it proficiently (with home), since I can't recall anything of value ever coming from it.. I'm a bit bummed out that Espathra never got a chance to be used in a non-gimmicky manner with Lumina Crash - it's a DOPE move, basically seed flare from shaymin-S but on steroids, and it got completely overshadowed by the dumb speed boost stored power set. For good reason, mind you, but it's still silly because it would have been a good addition to the meta in order to break all these unaware walls.

I can't believe STALLGON decided to RUIN another GREAT pokemon tier once again......

after eating my AMAZING toast this morning while running to the BUS, i opened up my phone and played a game of random battles...

my opponent has CHIEN PAO, and it died INSTANTLY to my tera fairy sunflora... and THIS is the POKEMON stallgon decides to ban THIS TIME?!?!

after my intro to algebra class, i ONCE AGAIN open up my phone, and play another game of random batles... ESPATHRA! It instantly loses to my chi yu... and i think...

"life is great! stallgon ahsnt ruined my favorite tier!"

grr... if i only knew.

after gym class... (i fucking HATE push-ups... grr...) i open my phone once more. it tells me that my limited data plan has RUN OUT. later i would find out this happened IN THE EXACT HOUR of the ban of one of the MOST balnced pokemon ive ever seen...

now is this REALLY stallgon's doing? i can never know, but there.s no way this is a meer coincidence. i cant even play randmb attles, my grr.. hahhh.. faVORITE game in the whole wild world... i must calm...

so anyway. i finish my final class, art, and im finally done with a hard day at midle school. i get home, and i finally have wifi once again! i click the youtube app and there... on my home page...

a video by my favorite youtuber... "CHIEN PAO AND ESPATHRA BANNED"

even just THINKING about IT makes me MAAAAAAAD. HOW did stallgon find this ACCEPTABLE???? i beat it earlier with SUNFLORA? HOW?

i watch the video, stopping every twenty second to pause. i cant TAKE more at a time. how... how did STALLGON ruin my favorite tier??? again? do they LOVE CLEFABLE? how?!?!?! STALLGON STOLE EVERYTHING I LOVED

like n share if you can relate... sign my change dot org petition to get chien pao UNBANNED,WE WILL MAKE FINCHINATOR LISTENView attachment 491415

Stored Power has pretty much just been a gimmick, I think. Espathra just made it go from a funny gimmick that's not actually all that reliable to a gimmick that turns games into coin flips on guessing the Tera type right and hoping you break its substitute fast enough. I'd say emu-less Stored Power is uncompetitive in the same way Hyper Beam is. Sure, it's really strong, but the use case for it is the opponent not knowing better and letting you use it.

EDIT: Oh and Magearna made it work too but Magearna always gets banned so eh

Honestly I've seen Mew run Stored Power + Cosmic Power (Gen 8 OU) and that's a pretty killer set I don't think it's much of a gimmick. But tbh where Stored Power is THE move on a mon, no I don't think I've seen it.

Yea the only other case was magearna, but magearna is nearly a perfect mon either way so it’s not like stored power was the sole set and reason it left

Actually, in gen 7 mega latias ran a stored power set along with toxapex setting t spikes for the darks in the tier. It was kind of matchup fish. I remember encountering it later in the gen. Usually, it still took a good bit of work to actually win with it even in matchups it was good, because dark types and just the worry about getting statused.

Which brings up another point I'd like to bring up about gen 9. It's not as beneficial to throw out status moves as it was in past gens. More often than not, it seems like a misplay to go for a random twave, wisp, or toxic.

I do recall Victini running it on Z-Celebrate sets back in Gen 7. I'm not sure how good those actually were, but somehow every team I built back then somehow managed to be weak to them.

Espathra now has the dubious honor of being quickbanned from 2 tiers in the same generation

Crazy to think this thing terrorized UU for an entire month and now got a 9/9 vote for a QB from OU
has this ever happened before? I feel like most of the time some op pokemon is languishing in a lower tier, it gets moved up tiers in usage before it needs to be banned from the tier right?

WoW is the worst move ever, going from mindlessly clicking scald and get rewarded even if it wasn't the right play to lose because you missed WoW once or even twice is a huge change.
Of course there are more factors, like tera fire/poison to block poison and burns but the most important in my opinion is the limited distribution of status moves. Before we had more options to spread status and even run multiple of them in the same team but now having a limited selection of status spreaders makes it harder for those mons because they are the answer to multiple threats, however sometimes you just trade your status spreader checking one mon early/mid game and then you get no answer to other threat in the late game. The best example of that is Either Gambit or Dragonite keeping Rotom low so the other can sweep.

I can't agree on the WoW thing. And yet one of my alts for the suspect was OUZO Fuck WoW.

I did lose a game of the run because Pao dodged three Wisp from my Rotom and chained the Spinners, but by no mean is WoW bad this Gen, quite the contrary, oh Lord.

I feel like this is kind of true? Really, the reduced distribution of status moves and the lack of Scald means that setting up status is in general much harder and a bigger commitment. Which is a problem in a generation where recovery moves have 8 PP and Tera jacks up offenses even higher. This just is not defense's generation.

I feel like we can ban any strong offense threat at the moment and still have stall be shit. Not saying that the Espathra or Pao ban were unjustified but I really, really doubt that pure, hard stall will be ever viable in gen 9
I feel like with the two mons banned, it’s a big win for stall. Stall is creeping up. :)

I will not accept this blatant CM+ID Reuniclus erasure
