Best Restalker!?

I know this probably won't go in RMT, so I'll put it in here. It's about restalkers, so yeah... read on.

A common problem in the metagame right now is the constant abuse of status. Hypnosis got it's accuracy increased, we have sleeping leads, thunderwavers, and all of the physical walls try and burn you. Toxic Spikes is becoming a way to defeat stall teams and offensive teams alike. The only answer to this sudden bombardment of status affects is a Cleric or a Status Absorber.

The only real usable OU Clerics right now are Blissey, Celebi, and Miltank. Blissey can do pretty good, but usually needs the moveslot for Thunder Wave or Ice Beam. Celebi has better things to do, and with a pursuit weakness, it really doesn't want this job. Miltank is kind of a lesser used pokemon, and is outshined by other fat normal types in every way possible.

Status Absorbers are slightly easier to come by. They can be a certain type that is immune to status effects (ie, steels can't be poisoned) they can have Natural Cure, or they can Rest and Sleep Talk. Problem is, resttalking uses up two moveslots, and even then, you only have a small chance of picking a good move while asleep. This makes picking a good one difficult.

Anyways, my question for you is: What is your team's status absorber, how does it do it's job, and how well does it work for you? I'm sort of worried about status right now, even though my team is fairly prepared for it. I'm curious as to if anyone else feels this way about how safe their team is from status effects.

I usually use Cresselia, Bronzong, or Metagross. Regice, Milotic and Spiritomb work ok, but aren't the best options.

It's hard to pick one single Pokemon as "Best ResTalker" because even the ResTalker can have niche roles to fill.

Heracross can hit stuff VERY hard.
Milotic becomes VERY sturdy. (I personally didn't like her that much, though.)
As Obi's most recent RMT suggests, even stuff like Machamp and Gyarados can make good use of ResTalk.
Of course, there's still all of the traditional bulky ResTalkers like Suicune, Cresselia, etc.

However, there's one that I've taken a liking to recently:

Hariyama

Yeah. Hariyama. Rest / Sleep Talk / Brick Break / Whirlwind. PHazes like a pro, handles the likes of Blissey and Tyranitar well (the one I use is specifically EV'd to OHKO Tar with Brick Break), and can actually take a few hits as well.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen a ResTalker that can multitask like Hariyama can. It's hard to find an effective PHazer, status absorber, and Tar counter all in one Pokemon.

my favourites being machamp, cresselia, spiritomb, suicune and regice.

cresselia being the most effective from my experiences..

Heh, I made a similar topic to this on some other forum.. Restalk Blissey is quite cool, especially since most of the sleep inducers are usually special oriented ones (Gengar, Yanmega, Milotic). She also gets 20% of freeze and paralysis if you choose to run Thunderbolt and Ice Beam.

I've had bad experiences with Restalk Metagross, mainly because of the weakness to the common Earthquake I guess.. Bronzong is probably a good restalker.

The best one? probably Milotic. That thing is super bulky and hits good enough.

I'd say Cresselia is the best Rest Talker. Fighting resistant, ground immunity, great defensive stats on both sides, and a very good special movepool to use while resting (Charge Beam, Ice Beam, Psychic, etc.).
I use mine to switch into any physical or special hit that isn't supereffective and try to get the SpAtt boost from charge beam. You really can't go wrong with Cresselia unless Weavile or Tyranitar cause your team big problems.

resttalk blissey? why bother when you have natural cure? anyways, i have blissey on my team. always. having said that, i think rest talkers are better at status absorbing than natural curers or say heracross. machamp is an interesting one though. rest talk + guts = !!!!!! too bad he can't use close combat or dynamic punch on that set though.

in my opinion Milotic is one of the best restalkers because it can make use of Marvel scale to double its defense and become very sturdy.

Hariyama can use Close Combat with that. It has no business running that considering its bulkiness, but I just had to mention it.

Machamp would be interesting, as it can carry Ice Punch+Thunder Punch, and it's rather safe from Magnezone because any fighting move from Machamp would likely OHKO Magnezone.

I personally like Cresselia and Milotic as ResTalkers. Cresselia is super bulky and has the ability to hit stuff while stat-upping (Charge Beam). It's basically a pseudo-BoltBeaming bulky Poke that can stat-up while hitting Pokes and retaining type coverage. Milotic also works well thanks to Marvel Scale, and I think that it can't really wall physically any other way. Just not enough defense. Has something like 423 defense while asleep with max defense, and with its high HP that's hard to handle.

suicune is my personal choice of resttalk, with Surf and Calm Mind as other options. nonetheless, using up half your moveset on this tactic really cuts down on any poke's versatility. DP has brought a new level of importance for tanks to work with a 50% recovery move, and that is why Bronzong and Cresselia are such powerful exceptions.

Might as well ask here...

I've been thinking about Azumarill as a ResTalker. ( o_O )

Azumarill @ Leftovers (Huge Power)
Careful 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Waterfall
Body Slam
Rest
Sleep Talk

Could this work? Waterfall and Body Slam work so well together, and the given spread produces 404 HP / 272 Atk / 236 Def / 242 SpD.

Could, but azumarill just isn't as defensive as the other sleep talkers out there. It'd be a nice surprise when fighting other BL pokemon.

Milotic's awesome due to her marvel scale power.
Machamp's awesome due to his guts power.
Cresselia's good due to her immense defenses and good sp. attacks.

Those are your top 3 right there, with Suicune as your runner-up.

My favourite happens to be Cresselia

yes, boring boring Cresselia. But I do not use a rest-talker to avoid status all the time. Shaymin has Natural Cure Rest and one of the best moves in the game: Seed Flare. Try it out.

Thanks to the advent of roost, Zapdos has not maintained its status as a premier rest/talker, but it is still incredibly useful if not the best rest/talker in D/P.

Zapdos resists both of Yanmega's attacks and both of Breloom's attacks; it resists Roserade's STAB grass attacks, and does well against Gengar. Yanmega, Breloom, Roserade, and Gengar are the offensive sleep users, so it is important for a rest/talker to fare well against as many of these as possible, or to at least scare them off. (Though it isn't like zapdos faces much of a threat from Bronzong without it using explosion).

A 252 HP/140 Def/116 SpDef Bold Zapdos takes negligible damage from Yanmega (~19-22% from Bug Buzz) and Roserade (Under 30% from Leaf Storm) unless it carries the rarely seen and easily dealt with sludge bomb. Adamant Breloom fails to 3HKO assuming leftovers recovery (31.51-36.98% from FP); Timid Gengar's Shadow Ball will fail to 3HKO well over half of the time (33.33-39.32%), and discharge's 30% paralysis rate will often scare Gengar out regardless.

If your team runs Celebi or Gliscor or something else to beat Breloom you could easily run a set which is bulkier on the special side to deal with Gengar; if you already run Blissey or another strong special wall you could give Zapdos 252/252/4 in order to help deal with Garchomp and other physical threats.

The only problem with Zapdos is its weakness to Stealth Rock, so using it in conjunction with a Rapid Spinner is a good idea.

Good Luck, Sleeping Bird! --TAY

i used regirock a while back and it actually worked VERY, VERY well. reStalk/stone edge/(hammer arm OR earthquake) has great coverage with both of those attacks and launches them off 100 base attack.

coupled with sand storm and 252 Evs in HP and special defense, this thing hits 364 HP, 480 defense and 447 special defense. with leftovers and rest, the only way to kill this is with stab super effective attacks (choice scarf hero does not even 2hko all the time)

Shedinja @ Sticky Barb

Rest
Sleep Talk
Double-Edge
Sandstorm

It's the ultimate Rest-talker!

In all seriousness, I've used a Charge Beam/Ice Beam/Rest/Sleep Talk Regice to decent effect.

I use Cresselia personally, I've had good success with it, although it's probably because it's very standard XD

I've also used Snorlax, it's been really good, but I haven't used it in a while, I got too unlucky w/ Sleep Talk =/
