Project SV OU - Victim of the Week (Week 74: Assault Vest Hoopa-U)

Check: Wo-Chien

:sv/Wo-Chien:

Anton Chizzurh (Wo-Chien) @ Leftovers
Ability: Tablets of Ruin
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Foul Play
- Protect
- Leech Seed

With full PhysDef, given a free turn to switch in a Wo-Chien can 1v1 Scale Shot Garchomp with Foul Play to take advantage of its boosted attack stat and Leech Seed to remain healthy. Even at +2 and with Tera Fire, Fire Fang and even a 5 hit Scale Shot does not come close to killing, while Foul Play at +2 is enough to kill Chomp after a round of Leech Seed chip. If Chomp doesn't SD, Leech Seed recovery means that Scale Shot at 5 hits is only a 5HKO, with Protect making that an unwinnable matchup and Foul Play still being a clean 2HKO with Leech Seed (the recovery helping to offset Rough Skin chip). Wo-Chien is a check, lacking reliable recovery and taking hazards, but is able to easily 1v1 Chomp. Tera Fairy is a good panic option to drop the Fire Fang weakness and gain an immunity to Scale Shot, but should not be necessary in this matchup.
252 Atk Wo-Chien Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 162-192 (45.3 - 53.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leech Seed damage
+2 252 Atk Wo-Chien Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 324-382 (90.7 - 107%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

After getting Leech Seed up, Wo-Chien can 2HKO Garchomp with Foul Play or kill it after Leech Seed damage if Chomp opts to SD on the Leech Seed turn.
252 Atk Garchomp Scale Shot (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tablets of Ruin Wo-Chien: 120-140 (32 - 37.4%) -- approx. possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery and Leech Seed recovery
252 Atk Tera Fire Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tablets of Ruin Wo-Chien: 116-138 (31 - 36.8%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery and Leech Seed recovery

Even with 5 hits from Scale Shot or Tera Fire on Fire Fang, Leech Seed makes Chomp only able to 5HKO Wo-Chien with unboosted hits.

+2 252 Atk Garchomp Scale Shot (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tablets of Ruin Wo-Chien: 225-270 (60.1 - 72.1%) -- approx. 2HKO after Leftovers recovery and Leech Seed recovery
+2 252 Atk Tera Fire Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tablets of Ruin Wo-Chien: 230-272 (61.4 - 72.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery and Leech Seed recovery

After an SD, Chomp can 2HKO Wo-Chien with Tera Fang or 5 hit Scale, but will die to Foul Play after Leech Seed damage.

Counter: Levitate Weezing-Galar

:sv/Weezing_Galar:

Andre 2 Stacks (Weezing-Galar) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Strange Steam
- Clear Smog
- Toxic
- Pain Split

With Levitate, Weezing-Galar is immune to both of Garchomp's STAB options and can only be hit by its 65BP Fire Fang, which is a 10HKO after Leftovers recovery and a 6HKO even with Tera Fire; This allows Weezing to sit on it and clear away any boosts with Clear Smog while using Pain Split to remain healthy. Although a typical Weezing-G will run more speed for Kingambit and therefore will not have as much bulk, this set uses Toxic to take down Garchomp and other mons that it can sit on which do not fear burn and so is invested fully in defence. Without Tera Fire available Garchomp gets 2HKOd by Strange Steam, and even with Tera Fire, Toxic will take Chomp down while Weezing-G can Clear Smog away its boosts and Pain Split off damage taken as at +2 it is still impossible for Garchomp to 2HKO Weezing-G.

This means that you can switch in hard on an SD, Clear Smog as they attack and Toxic on their SD to put them on a permanent timer before healing back up with Pain Split as their next attack won't kill you, Garchomp's high HP stat (357 as opposed to Weezing-G only hitting 343) notably taking you out of range of another Fire Fang so that you can Clear Smog again. Tera Water is not good in general for this matchup as you lose your immunity to Scale Shot, but can be used in a pinch to save Weezing-G from Fire Fang vs a low health, Toxic'd Garchomp that will die on the next turn. Leftovers can be ran due to the Spikes immunity provided by Levitate.
0 SpA Weezing-Galar Strange Steam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 194-230 (54.3 - 64.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Weezing-Galar Clear Smog vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Fire Garchomp: 54-64 (15.1 - 17.9%) -- possible 6HKO

Strange Steam 2HKOs Garchomp without Tera before even a +2 Chomp can kill Weezing-G, while if they have Tera Fire available it's better to Toxic them and then deal small amounts of damage with Clear Smog as Toxic and Pain Split wears them down.
Without Garchomp Tera:
252 Atk Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Weezing-Galar: 45-54 (13.5 - 16.2%) -- possibly the worst move ever
+2 252 Atk Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Weezing-Galar: 90-107 (27 - 32.1%) -- 56% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Without Tera Fire, Garchomp can never break through Weezing-G, doing minimal damage with Fire Fang even after a boost.

With Garchomp Tera:
252 Atk Tera Fire Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Weezing-Galar: 67-81 (20.1 - 24.3%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Tera Fire Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Weezing-Galar: 135-160 (40.5 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Tera Fire lets Chomp at least chunk Weezing-G; however, even +2 Tera Fire Garchomp does 41.9% after Leftovers and so Weezing can Clear Smog its boosts away and Pain Split on it freely, and although Weezing-Galar will come out of it low it'll still win the exchange with Toxic and Pain Split chip.

:sv/zamazenta:

Zamazenta @ Leftovers / Chesto Berry
Ability: Dauntless Shield
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 Spe
Tera Type: Fairy
Jolly Nature
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Crunch
- Substitute / Rest

Zamazenta is a check. Despite not innately possessing any resistances to Garchomp's attacks, it takes surprisingly little damage if neither mon has boosted. With the Dauntless Shield boost, even a boosted Garchomp isn't guaranteed to 2HKO. From there, Zamazenta can use its higher speed to set up alongside Garchomp. Scale Shot fixes that, but Tera Fairy on Zamazenta makes that fairly risky, and the defense drop can bring Garchomp within KO range of Body Press faster.

Of course, "boosted" in this case is strictly referring to a +2 Garchomp. Anything more than that, and Zamazenta can have a lot of difficulty unless you're willing to go for a hail mary with Tera.

Check: :dragapult:
If it gets a free switch in against an unboosted Garchomp, 252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 606-714 (169.7 - 200%) -- guaranteed OHKO.
252 SpA Choice Specs Tera Dragon Dragapult Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Fire Garchomp: 404-476 (113.1 - 133.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

But on the other hand... +2 252 Atk Tera Fire Garchomp Scale Shot (4 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Dragon Dragapult: 840-992 (264.9 - 312.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO -- guaranteed OHKO

It might not be the best counter against a Garchomp which already set up though...

There's a bit of an issue with that...

252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Fire Garchomp: 303-357 (84.8 - 100%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

If the Garchomp uses Tera they're highly favored to live your Draco and then simply OHKO back with Scale Shot, unless you're willing to use Tera Dragon.

252 SpA Choice Specs Tera Dragon Dragapult Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Fire Garchomp: 404-476 (113.1 - 133.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Check: :choice specs::Walking Wake:
Walking Wake out speeds Chomp as long as it is not speed boosted, and specs meteor cleanly KOs even with tera.
252 SpA Choice Specs Walking Wake Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 704-830 (197.1 - 232.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO (nearly kos twice haha)
252 SpA Choice Specs Walking Wake Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Fire Garchomp: 352-415 (98.5 - 116.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after 1 layer of Spikes (With literally 1.5% of chip, Wake OHKOs).
252 Atk Garchomp Scale Shot (4 hits) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Walking Wake: 360-432 (105.8 - 127%) -- guaranteed OHKO. 4 hits OHKOs Wake (you can tera ig).
If it has no speed boosts Wake OHKOs. Otherwise, it needs tera.

Erased Tera Fairy :Sinistcha: as a counter: Chartung17 showed that I forgot about SD lol. Apologies, this was one of my first posts.

Counter: Tera Fairy :Sinistcha:
Okay, you may be wondering why I am nomming a mon weak to fire. I will tell you that it is not! Heatproof stops that weakness. Non terad :Sinistcha: does not take anything from even tera fire chomp fire fang, and terad :Sinistcha: easily shrugs off all hits. It can actually use Chomp as setup fodder after strength sapping it to oblivion. I am using the UU set, but you can invest more into bulk if you want to easily shrug off hits.
252 Atk Tera Fire Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Heatproof Sinistcha: 80-96 (23.1 - 27.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery (Not even close)
Scale shot unironically does a heck of a lot, but tera fairy exists! 252 Atk Garchomp Scale Shot (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Sinistcha: 155-185 (44.7 - 53.4%) -- approx. 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery.
Upon tera fairy, the most damage they can do is with Earthquake, which does 252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Tera Fairy Sinistcha: 123-145 (35.5 - 41.9%) -- 88.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery. After Strength Sap, you heal and once it gets really low, it can be used as calm mind fodder.
Sinistcha isn't even a check. Garchomp can raise its attack faster than you can lower it, and you can't consistently 2HKO it even with max SpA (apart from Tera Blast, which only works if Garchomp doesn't tera), while it can outspeed and OHKO after two Swords Dances.

252+ SpA Sinistcha Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 156-184 (43.6 - 51.5%) -- 9% chance to 2HKO

+4 252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Fairy Sinistcha: 339-399 (97.9 - 115.3%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

Yes Chartung17, I went to bed and forgot about this. I am so sorry, it was one of my first posts and I'll probably edit mine to show that it doesn't work. Sorry all!

Hey there,
Seems reasonable to ask for the checks to take into account Garchomp being at +2 Atk, +1 Speed, or at least one of the two. Hence won't be allowing the following submissions atm. Still, feel free to comment on these or any of the other submissions if you believe they should be considered.

I only consider counters to need to take into account Garchomp getting +2 Atk or +1 Speed as our counter switches in. For checks, I always consider both to start with no stat boosts. Since this Garchomp set has 2 boosting moves, I've had to take into account Garchomp getting +2 Atk or +1 Speed mid-fight against checks, which is why I dismissed ones like Ogerpon-W.

I can agree with this; in particular cause once we start considering boosts then the line between counter and check gets super blurry to the point only really Unaware mons or something super bulky would be able to take it.

I will allow the Iron Valiant submission, as well as the Walking Wake one following the same logic (hey GamerWhosBad). Though I will not be considering the Dragapult submission at its current state since, as it was mentioned above, Garchomp can tank a Specs Draco with Tera. Hope with works. Will also consider the Dragapult submission with Tera Dragon mentioned.

On a similar light I wont be allowing this as a counter cause Garchomp can tera exactly the turn you go for Moonblast. I will let it stay as a check submission instead following the logic above, hope that works PenguGuy1.

Firstly, thank you SetsuSetsuna for allowing my Wake. My tera fairy :sinistcha: was weak to SD, so I present as a Counter something which can literally never lose even if Chomp is +6 Atk and +6 Spe.

JUST LOOK AT IT. This takes 'Cannot do anything' to a whole new level. After Tera Fairy, it literally cannot do anything. So, you send it in, you tera fairy on the chomp's scale shot, it realises you can't do anything. Always gets you to +4, and do I really need to tell you that +4 attack is good? (You can use heatran with the same idea, air balloon flash fire tera fairy, but it has no setup sadly)

Amoonguss finds itself back in OU thanks to its good defensive profile, being one of the best Ogerpon-W answers. Full PhysDef investment and Foul Play allows it to handle Ogerpon-W better, as well as Pokemon like Dragonite and Garchomp. Giga Drain allows it to hit the likes of Dondozo and Great Tusk. Sludge Bomb threatens Rillaboom, Iron Valiant, and Enamorus. Spore lets it cripple the likes of Heatran an Slowking-G trying to play around it. What Pokemon can check the fungus?
