Project SV OU - Lure That Threat - Week 41

Congrats to NotDaProGamer for winning week 31! The set will be added to the Hall of Fame shortly.

Week 32 - Booster Energy, SD, Iron Boulder!

:sv/iron-boulder:

Iron Boulder @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Mighty Cleave
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt

Iron Boulder is a potent offensive physical attacker and a great form of speed control. Often used in the endgame as a sweeper. Its natural 381 speed stat makes it the fastest Booster Energy user, letting it put a stop to Iron Valiant. Thanks to this high speed, its able to forces alot of switches allowing it to setup with Swords Dance. Its coverage is "Mighty" having a 100% accurate Rock move that goes through protect and can crit in a pinch, Earthquake to beat most of the things that resist Rock and brute force with Tera Ground. Zen Headbutt for more coverage, notably hitting prominent walls like Great Tusk and Toxapex and offensive mons like Iron Valiant and Zamazenta. This poses a question, what can lure in the "Mighty" Iron Boulder?

(Remember this is a LURE not a check. Things like Air Balloon Gholdengo will NOT be counted.)

The deadline for submissions will be January 12th at 2:59 AM EST!

Moltres @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 SpA
- Roost
- Tera Blast
- Will-O-Wisp
- U-turn

Moltres may not look like a counter to a Rock Pokemon with a 95 base power 4x effective STAB, but thanks to terastallizing, that can be changed quite easily

Iron Boulder when facing Moltres will use Mighty Cleave most of the time, so you always tera here: 252 Atk Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Tera Ground Moltres: 62-73 (19.2 - 22.6%) -- possible 5HKO, and fire back with your 252+ Atk Tera Ground Moltres Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Boulder: 288-338 (89.7 - 105.2%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO. At this point, there's a 30% chance Iron Boulder dies on the spot and a 68.8% chance of that happening if Flame Body procs. After this, you can either roost off the damage, or attack again with Tera Blast or U-turn

If they predict the tera ground and use Zen Headbutt instead, you can just attack them as per normal since 252 Atk Iron Boulder Zen Headbutt vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Tera Ground Moltres: 105-124 (32.6 - 38.5%) -- 98.8% chance to 3HKO. Even if they choose to Tera Ground Earthquake, it's still a 3hko 252 Atk Tera Ground Iron Boulder Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Tera Ground Moltres: 132-156 (40.9 - 48.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO, and you can will-o-wisp on the second one, crippling it and switching out due to being low from attacking the first turn, or you can just Tera Blast again, since 252+ Atk Tera Ground Moltres Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Ground Iron Boulder: 144-169 (44.8 - 52.6%) -- 83.2% chance to 2HKO

TLDR: KFC makes quick work of NU Terrakion's future form because of tera

Hawlucha @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Unburden
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Endure
- Reversal
- Acrobatics
- (Move of your choice)

Hawlucha is one of the few pokemon in the entire game that can outspeed Iron Boulder, but only after Unburden has been activated. This means that Boulder can come in on a Swords Dance and proceed to immediately OHKO before Hawlucha can retaliate.

252 Atk Iron Boulder Zen Headbutt vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Hawlucha: 312-368 (105 - 123.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Hawlucha normally uses either Grassy Seed, Psychic Seed or White Herb to activate Unburden. Rarely Weakness Policy. By using Endure, we can guarantee we survive the Zen Headbutt, and proceed to double both our speed and attack in one turn. Afterwards, Reversal easily kills Boulder.

+2 252+ Atk Hawlucha Reversal (200 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Boulder: 678-798 (211.2 - 248.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

As you can see, we don't even need to run Weakness Policy. Any consumable item will do, such as a berry. But a +2 Hawlucha does pretty well against the enemy team once we get that Weakness Policy boost.

For the Tera type, I'd recommend Ground for two reasons. Firstly, it grounds Hawlucha, which means (with Psychic Terrain support) it can be immune to incoming priority. Outside of terrain, it is still immune to Raging Bolt's Thunderclap, which is a common move to run into, as Raging Bolt is rank 6 in OU right now.

Alternatively, you could run Tera Fighting for even more damage, and then run Upper Hand in your last slot. This requires the ability to predict, but it shuts down all attempts to revenge kill with priority. If you feel you can pull that off, I'd give it a try.

Some calcs against other threats:

+2 252+ Atk Hawlucha Reversal (200 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Great Tusk: 448-528 (103.2 - 121.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Hawlucha Upper Hand vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kingambit: 628-744 (184.1 - 218.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Hawlucha Upper Hand vs. 92 HP / 0 Def Raging Bolt: 199-235 (48 - 56.7%) -- 39.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Hawlucha Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Unaware Clodsire: 232-274 (50.1 - 59.1%) -- 78.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Hawlucha Reversal (200 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Gouging Fire: 478-564 (136.1 - 160.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

TLDR: In one turn we become a nigh unstoppable force by baiting Iron Boulder into attacking

Tera Type: Flying/Ground/Rock/Fire/Defensive tera of your choice
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Shell Smash
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide/Tera Blast
THE METEOR ITSELF HAS ARRIVED
Turn 1: Da Cleave from Boulder, 252 Atk Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Minior: 444-524 (170.1 - 200.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO so sash is burned. Da Meteor shell smashes.
What is the meteor's speed now? 678. Minior>Boulder.
Turn 2: Earthquake from Minior. +2 252+ Atk Minior Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Boulder: 476-562 (148.2 - 175%) -- guaranteed OHKO.
Now, :minior: will sweep your team, with base 110BP flying moves, base 100BP ground moves and... rock slide... (tera rock tera blast avoids missing, which I hate so I actually run that, but you can run tera fire tera blast to hit corv/skarm) with a speed which beats EVERYTHING unboosted. Slowking-Galar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 228 SpA / 16 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Future Sight
- Sludge Bomb
- Flamethrower
- Hydro Pump

:assault-vest: :slowking-galar: is a well known special wall, especially in Gen 8. In Gen 9 however, :assault-vest: sets are still common but with Chilly Reception, :heavy-duty-boots: is a more popular pick. With that bring said, I am submitting an offensive biased :assault-vest: :slowking-galar: set to not only tank special attacks but to also dish out huge damage with its coverage. :iron-boulder: resists both of its STAB moves; Future Sight and Sludge Bomb, and is free to set up a Swords Dance as :slowking-galar: may seem like fodder. Coverage :assault-vest: :slowking-galar: sets might run are Surf, Flamethrower, and Ice Beam, however even with a super effective Surf, :iron-boulder: is tanky enough to sponge one and still set up on it. This set with Tera Water is guaranteed to OHKO :iron-boulder:, allowing a huge threat to be neutralized.

228+ SpA Tera Water Slowking-Galar Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Iron Boulder: 324-384 (100.9 - 119.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Tera Water is also a great defensive typing on :slowking-galar:, being able to switch in on mons such as :walking-wake:, :gholdengo:, and :volcarona:. It also helps if :iron-boulder: wants to simply Tera Ground and Earthquake :slowking-galar:, if it feels like it can sweep your team without use of a Swords Dance.

252 Atk Tera Ground Iron Boulder Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 16 Def Tera Water Slowking-Galar: 183-216 (46.5 - 54.9%) -- 62.9% chance to 2HKO

Hydro Pump isn’t just for :iron-boulder: though. Against a :Gliscor:, you can Tera Water against an Earthquake and OHKO it with Hydro Pump. The same can be said for mons (but to a lesser extent) such as :heatran:, :skeledirge:, :great-tusk:, and Tera Ground :Volcarona:.

228+ SpA Tera Water Slowking-Galar Hydro Pump vs. 244 HP / 12 SpD Gliscor: 432-510 (122.7 - 144.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

228+ SpA Tera Water Slowking-Galar Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 212+ SpD Heatran: 248-294 (64.2 - 76.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

228+ SpA Tera Water Slowking-Galar Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Skeledirge: 300-354 (72.9 - 86.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

228+ SpA Tera Water Slowking-Galar Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Great Tusk: 570-672 (131.3 - 154.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

228+ SpA Tera Water Slowking-Galar Hydro Pump vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Ground Volcarona: 218-260 (70 - 83.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

4 Atk Great Tusk Headlong Rush vs. 248 HP / 16 Def Tera Water Slowking-Galar: 193-228 (49.1 - 58%) -- 96.9% chance to 2HKO

+1 252 SpA Tera Ground Volcarona Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 248 HP / 16 SpD Assault Vest Tera Water Slowking-Galar: 123-145 (31.2 - 36.8%) -- 77.4% chance to 3HKO

Even though :assault-vest: :slowking-galar: isn’t the most common as of right now, it can be a powerhouse of an attacker, luring in and killing mons like :iron-boulder:.

Blaziken @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk/4 SpD/252 Spe
Adamant Nature
Tera-Type: Fire/Fighting
- Flare Blitz
- Close Combat
- Swords Dance
- Agility

Let's face it, Protect is one of the most predictable moves in all of competitive Pokemon. It's especially the case for Blaziken, as its Speed Boost ability allows it to outspeed most Pokemon next turn and safely secure a KO. However, Iron Boulder's signature move, Mighty Cleave, is specifically designed to break through Protect, giving Boulder a clean 2HKO against Blaze.

252 Atk Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Blaziken: 196-232 (65.1 - 77%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Of course, that's not the only option. In truth, it's Boulder's riskiest, as chances are, it had switched straight into an SD on Blaze's end. And it won't appreciate taking a CC that it doesn't have to, as even without a boost or an offensive item, CC still hurts

252+ Atk Blaziken Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Boulder: 244-288 (76 - 89.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

But it can OHKO first. Zen Headbutt OHKOes cleanly, but comes at the risk of missing. Whereas EQ has hazards or Tera-Ground to help secure the KO, and even if it low-rolls, Blaze can finish itself off if it had a Life Orb on at the time

252 Atk Tera Ground Iron Boulder Zen Headbutt vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Blaziken: 332-392 (110.2 - 130.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Iron Boulder Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Blaziken: 276-326 (91.6 - 108.3%) -- 50% chance to OHKO/guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock/1 layer of Spikes
252 Atk Tera Ground Iron Boulder Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Blaziken: 414-488 (137.5 - 162.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

All that is possible because Booster Energy Boulder can outspeed Blaze at +2. Even a Jolly Blaze gets outsped by 3 points, and it only takes 1 to go first.

...

Clicking Agility on the switch changes things, however. With it, Blaze ultimately ends the turn at +3, giving Boulder an ultimatum. Either it switches back out, making the Booster Energy go to waste, or faces a very real threat of being destroyed by Life Orb CC

252+ Atk Life Orb Blaziken Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Boulder: 317-374 (98.7 - 116.5%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

As you can see, unfortunately Boulder does have a chance to survive, as miniscule as it is. But since that involves getting the absolute lowest roll in all of low rolls, I'd consider it worthy as a pass. After all, hazards can fix that easily, and we can reasonably expect it to take damage from them because we prepared for Booster Energy specifically.

Tera-Fire is the Tera-Type of choice, as physical attacks really don't want to be burned, but Tera-Fighting can be ran if you want to protect yourself against Kingambit's Sucker Punch, or have a real good reason to boost CC over Flare Blitz.

Congrats to dunderguy for winning week 32! The set will be added to the Hall of Fame shortly.

Week 33 - Bulky SD Kingambit!

:sv/kingambit:

Kingambit @ Leftovers
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Kowtow Cleave
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head

Kingambit is the "King" of setup sweepers, with its ability making its moves 1.5x stronger when all the chips are down. Its typing is useful offensively and defensively, with its STABs complementing each other well, and serves as a good Ghost and Dragon resistance in the tier. It can brute force past resists, and Tera past checks like Iron Valiant and Great-Tusk. SD boosts its attack stat to crazy levels, Kowtow Cleave for big STAB damage, Iron Head for more coverage like Faries, and Sucker Punch ignores its low speed, being able to outspeed things it normally can't and is great for picking off weaker threats. Tera Flying flips its Fighting and Ground weaknesses, and Leftovers for more longevity. With all these great traits, how does one lure the King of the OU tier?

(Remember this is a LURE not a check. Things like Bulky Pivot Cinderace and Low Kick Kingambit will NOT be counted.)

The deadline for submissions will be January 19th at 2:59 AM EST!

Your opponent chuckles to themselves, pushing up their glasses, a flash covering the lenses. "Yes," they think to themselves, "my opponent is backed into a corner. This game is mine!" A Draco Meteor from their Choice Specs Dragapult has just killed your Cinderace, leaving their Kingambit to reign his holy terror on the rest of your OU game. All that's left on your team is a Gholdengo who hasn't hit the field yet, and a chipped AV Slowking-Galar. If you go Ghold, they can go hard Kingambit. If you go Glowking, they sacrifice Dragapult to get Kingambit in for free. It's foolproof. I mean, you haven't used your Tera yet, but judging from team composition, it's probably Tera Fairy Gholdengo and Tera Water Glowking, which a +2 Gambit should handle fine.

Right?

You bring in Ghold and your opponent chuckles. "choke", they say in chat. "u needed to go glowking there idiot". You don't respond. Your opponent takes this as a sign of surrender. They hard swap to Kingambit. You click Substitute. This makes them frown. Sub Ghold? Who runs that? They suppose it's a solid tech option. Doesn't matter; it's definitely dual STAB, Substitute, and either Nasty Plot or Recover. Doesn't change things. They click Swords Dance.

The opposing Gholdengo has Terastallized into a Fighting-type!

Shit! Well, maybe it's just a defensive Tera! Not all Tera Fighting Gholdengos run Focus Blast or Tera Blast.

...
... what the FUCK.

176 Atk Tera Fighting Gholdengo Focus Punch vs. 236 HP / 0 Def Kingambit: 400-472 (100 - 118%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Your opponent slams their desk as they lose their Kingambit to the worst move ever put onto a Gholdengo set. They don't even play the rest of the turn by bringing Dragapult in; they forfeit on the spot. Behold, the glorious set beholding your victory:

HAIL TO THE VICTOR (Gholdengo) @ Leftovers
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 76 HP / 176 Atk / 252 SpA / 4 Spe

Now, dear reader, I hear you asking: is this not strictly inferior to a special Fighting-type move, such as Tera Blast or Focus Blast? My answer to that is no, for twofold reasons. First, it has uses into Pokémon that may otherwise beat Gholdengo. Against Roaring Moon, for example, one can procure this same strategy; Focus Punch is a stronger move than Tera Blast Fighting. In addition, it cripples the rare Blissey.

That said, dear reader, this thread is Lure That Threat. In order to count, the Pokémon in question must lure and cripple the opposing Pokémon. While I may be a first-time poster to this library of lures, I am no fool. This set, against all odds, does its job of luring and destroying opposing Kingambit.

There is one more thing, however. One final reason that this set stands above the rest. You see, to truly lure a threat, one must not just simply defeat a Pokémon that typically threatens yours. No; you must also crush the soul of your opponent doing so. No "damn ggs" here. Your opponent must stare at the screen in shock or rage; preferably both, before forfeiting. This set does so, because by luring that threat...

The fable of Lure Clefable
Once upon a time, a :kingambit: hard switched into a :clefable:. Expecting the :clefable: to run away in terror, having seen it was Magic Guard due to its switching in on rocks, the evil king(ambit) chuckled-it would use the helpless fairy as fodder. However, something surprised the Gambit. It stood its ground against the evil king, and donned an epic hat. Wearing its magnificent hat with a giant fist on top of it, the :clefable: pounded the evil king. It did what surprised even the two omnipotent overlords watching over their battle. It clicked Tera Fighting Tera Blast. Suddenly, power rushed through the fairy as it realised its offensive training, scorned by its defensive brethren, had come in useful. It realised its crucial sacrifice-11 stat points of HP, which made it lose all its tests to its friends, and its non-fountain-shaped hat which was a source of endless laughter, had been worth it to topple the mighty king by barely reaching the threshold-those 44 SpA EV's-that had made it able to topple the king. The king ran away to its Pokéball kingdom, defeated. The :clefable: had done the unthinkable. It had saved its whole city.

When any of its friends were later given the scenario, they all failed.

Our heroic Clefable's calc: 44 SpA Tera Fighting Clefable Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Kingambit: 400-472 (100 - 118%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Its brethren's calcs: 0 SpA Tera Water Clefable Moonblast vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Kingambit: 112-133 (28 - 33.2%) -- 89% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
And no, the gambit can never outspeed and kill with Iron Head: 252+ Atk Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Kingambit Iron Head vs. 212 HP / 252+ Def Tera Fighting Clefable: 195-229 (50.7 - 59.6%) -- 83.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
So the moral of the story? Wear a magnificent hat with a fist on it.

I am not accepting this submission, as Gholdengo already commonly runs Focus Blast on some of its sets already as a lure to Kingambit. Your set is just physical Focus Blast and is too similar to an existing set. You can still submit things, but not this submission. Sorry for that, and I hope you can find something else :D

Fun fact: The only move of Galarian Moltres that Kingambit does not resist is a non-STAB neutral U-turn coming off an uninvested, below average base 85 attack stat. Furthermore, as a dangerous setup sweeper, Kingambit's Sucker Punch (though resisted) is a vital move that the opponent will turn to in order to bring down the bird.

It's a little bit basic to go for the funny "haha Tera Fighting Tera Blast ez lure" but I think Moltres pulls it off very well because it not only lures Kingambit, but also decentivises it from Terastalising. As a Kingambit user, why would you give up your resistance to every attack Goltres has (all for a resistance to U-turn)?

252+ Atk Kingambit Iron Head vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Moltres-Galar: 162-192 (42.2 - 50.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO
I really can't be bothered to grab the calc for a standard max speed-max special attack Goltres, but we can evidently see that Kingambit can expect to 2HKO that thing. We don't need that much investment though.

4 SpA Tera Fighting Moltres-Galar Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Kingambit: 400-472 (100 - 118%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Nice OHKO, allows us to take it down without needing a Nasty Plot, which means we can afford to play safer, able to Fiery Wrath as the Kingambit comes in instead of being forced to make a prediction.

I've changed my mind; I can be asked to remove the 248 from the damage calc:
252+ Atk Kingambit Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Moltres-Galar: 162-192 (50.4 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

There's your proof. While I'm here, I'll throw in the standard Goltres calcs.
252+ SpA Moltres-Galar Fiery Wrath vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Kingambit: 77-91 (19.2 - 22.7%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Moltres-Galar Hurricane vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Kingambit: 94-111 (23.5 - 27.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

It seems like the most popular Tera type is Fairy, which makes sense since that allows Goltres to run Double Dance, with Tera Blast over Hurricane. That set loses, however, to Kingambit. Even after a Nasty Plot.

+2 252+ SpA Tera Fairy Moltres-Galar Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Kingambit: 273-322 (68.2 - 80.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Kingambit Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Fairy Moltres-Galar: 324-384 (100.9 - 119.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I'd have liked to have used Double Dance, but Fighting/Dark coverage is walled by Fairies (the most common Tera type) and Fighting/Flying is walled by Zapdos (not hugely relevant I suppose) and Gholdengo (same can't be said here).

Since I'm running max speed and max bulk, I elected to use Nasty Plot over Agility because base 100 special attack is completely insufficient by every definition, whereas max speed Timid can at least pick off the multiple slower threats in the tier with our unresisted coverage (excluding Dedenne, watch out for that counter). We may not be a sweeper, but we get several switch in opportunities and the potential to chunk some threats on the enemy team.

TLDR: Galarian Moltres is by no means the rarest UU mon to appear in OU, due to it's threatening status as a sweeper. It also serves as the perfect Kingambit lure, since all of its attacking moves are resisted. This set may be Tera reliant, but given that our opponent is Kingambit himself, the ultimate Tera abuser after Volcarona, I think we can let it slide.

Deoxys-Defense @ Expert Belt
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 108 HP / 200 Atk / 156 SpA / 44 Spe
Quirky Nature
- Superpower
- Ice Beam
- Taunt / Psycho Boost / Knock Off
- Spikes

Isn't this just a worse :deoxys-speed: ? Yes...and that's the point... You want to bluff to your opponent that you are running a defensive set because why else would you normally be running :deoxys-defense: instead of :deoxys-speed:? The plan is to turn 1 Spikes as normal to not set off any alarms to your opponent and then smack :kingambit: with a 4X Superpower as it tries to set up on you.

The EVs are teched so that you guarantee a KO on offensive :kingambit: without needing to sink your Tera and can KO bulky variants handedly with Tera if you so choose. Ice Beam allows you to still 1vs1 if :kingambit: goes Tera Flying even after the defense drop and it can also be effective for other meta staples such as :gliscor: and :great-tusk:. The speed EVs means it always outspeeds any :kingambit: including max speed whilst also getting the jump on standard :gliscor: and knocking it out with Ice Beam. The rest of the EVs are dumped to HP to increase your bulk and help you get more layers of spikes up. Taunt is preferred to maintain the illusion that you are a defensive set and prevent opposing Spikes but Psycho Boost still hits hard and can nab KO's on mons like :great-tusk:. Knock Off can also be ran for utility and so that you aren't walled against most ghosts and psychics but don't expect it to be doing too much damage. EDIT Knock Off also allows you to beat your :deoxys-speed: brethren in the lead matchup so it might edge it over Psycho Boost.
