One of the item I feel particularly neat on Gallade was Scope Lens. Because slashing moves have high critical hit ratio (namely Leaf Blade and Psycho Cut on the set), running Scope Lens give you 50% crit rate on either of those moves, which helps in breaking past Iron Defense users.
Ayyy that’s the same tech I love running on Leaf Blade/Triple Arrows Decidueye-H, nice. I love crit builds.

It's kinda like how in regulation A VGC, hydreigon would use scope lens focus energy to get a guarenteed critical hit on every move to spam draco meteor without suffering from the sp.A drops. I would love to see something that is critical hit based become meta, not flower trick because that is cheap critical hits.

Maybe it's just me, but I find this especially funny because you're saying guaranteed crit is cheap and fishing for it isn't, when it's usually the other way around with RNG mechanics.

It's more because you have to earn it. You have to use an item slot and a move just to set yourself up, which is a big commitment. Flower trick is just clicking the move to get a crit. I still think it's funny when I think about it, it's sort of like fishing for something like zap cannon or ancient power omniboost, they may be so unreliable, but when you hit it oh, the amount of joy I get is unrivaled.

Hey everyone, I'd like to share some unique set options that I've been teching around with for a hot minute now. These sets in particular fulfill some unique and at times critical roles in OU. Several of you stated that my OU Lucario analysis didn't have the same kind of creative feeling and felt off compared to my other essay posts. So in the meantime while I continue to test :furret: on different OU archetypes, I wanted to quickly share some of the more unique sets that I've been developing and working with as of late to make up for my lack of Morkallion polish on that previous analysis.

Tera Type: Grass

This has been an interesting set that I've been using as a makeshift emergency check to Iron Boulder, being able to live +2 from any of its most used moves thanks to Tera in addition to being able to OHKO it in return. Access to powerful moves like Sharpness-boosted Leaf Blade alongside its two STABs allows it to cut through some of the most potent Pokemon in the tier like Archaludon, Clodsire, Dondozo, Heatran, Kingambit, Kyurem, and more. With Agility, Gallade reaches a great 518 speed tier outpacing some serious threats after just a single boost.

Ability: Filter
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shift Gear
- Iron Head
- Temper Flare
- High Horsepower

Revavroom has very unique tools that allow it to function as a great cleaner in OU; thanks to a unique combination of the superb boosting move Shift Gear alongside Iron Head, Temper Flare, and High Horsepower further boosted with STAB. Revavroom can lure Gouging Fire, live an Earthquake thanks to the combination of Filter and Shuca Berry, then boost to clean up a weakened Gouging Fire or Terastallize to get a clean OHKO from full health on offensive DD variants. Additionally, Air Balloon Gholdengo can be capitalized on thanks to High Horsepower activating the boost for Temper Flare. Revavroom can also handle additional problematic threats like Iron Valiant and Raging Bolt thanks to Shift Gear +2 speed bringing it to a fantastic 558, outpacing Jolly Booster Iron Valiant's 546. The combination of STAB Steel with Fire and Ground coverage whomps a large portion of the metagame for super effective damage.

Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Ice/Dark/Ground/Fairy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Triple Axel
- Knock Off
- Drain Punch

Mienshao occupies a critical niche as the only Fighting-type Pokemon in the game with Regenerator, allowing it to fire off powerful life orb boosted attacks off of its base 125 attack stat (five points higher than both Iron Boulder and Weavile, btw) without worrying about continued recoil from Life Orb or chip damage. Mienshao's power is impressive, chopping down critical OU threats while additionally utilizing its workable base 105 speed stat to zoom around some of the most critical threats in OU. STAB Drain Punch allows Mienshao to have further longevity alongside the utility of Knock Off and U-Turn. Triple Axel is incredible tech, allowing Mienshao to OHKO Pokemon like Great Tusk, Clodsire, and more.

Made a Bulky Balance or Offense team on an alt that I think is pretty good. Got to 1300 ELO. What do y’all think?

Playing with this team makes me think Roaring Moon is a bit broken. You really just have to swap into something like Clodsire and set up. Putting it on a timer doesn’t matter too much since all Moon needs is a Dragon Dance.

Kyurem seems a little problematic too especially under Snow. Swapping into the Spec set takes a lot of prediction to survive. Then there’s Sub Leftover Freeze Dry / Ice Beam which I’ve tested out. You just Sub and fish for a Freeze, then Sub and continue to chip apart the opponent.

Knock Off is better on Roaring Moon

My Opinions, :Gallade: is funny, but just funny, I generally use Knock Off instead of Leaf Blade
What if :Gouging Fire: uses Flare Blitz/Raging Fury instead, or just clicks Burning Bulwark, because if you hit a Burning Bulwark protected :Gouging Fire:, you will get burned fun fact
:Mienshao: is a nice sidegrade to the Scarf Sets, trading speed for a bit more power and longevity!

Fun fact fire moves are x2 super effective and ground is x4 SE against revavroom (and Burning Bulwark isn't even on the smorgon samples)

On the topic of Future mons, actually, Electrics have it super rough this Generation. We have two of the best Ground Types ever to see OU play in Great Tusk and Ting-Lu, and neither of them are really fragile enough to the point that they'll be OHKOed by a Tera Ice / Grass / Water Blast unless you're attacking them from their weaker defending stats. Nevermind the fact that Clodsire's returned to OU, Excadrill is still a prominent threat and Gliscor is as agitating as ever, even if the latter is x4 weak to Ice.

Thundurus-Therian does quite a number on all ground types. Nasty Plot, Grass Knot, Tera Blast Flying, Weather Ball Water / Ice, Psychic…

A tech I’ve been using is Tera-Fairy. It completely blanks Raging Bolt.

have you considered slotting tera blast on that tera fairy set? it doesn't have the raw power of tera flying, but the coverage is much better—the only relevant or semi-relevant things that wall electric/fairy are amoonguss, clodsire, excadrill, and iron treads (magnezone and rotom-heat and a couple other mons too, but none of them are relevant). not sure whether it's worth giving up the moveslot to, but i feel like it could be neat, especially with the number of dragon-types and dark-types running around right now

side note for 1LDK: laugh-reacting any set idea that isn't meta doesn't make you as cool or clever as you think it does. it's just annoying. i noticed you doing this to morkal too and it just rubs me the wrong way

I'm betting 1000 of my Yugioh life points that Pecharunt drops because its type is kinda ass

You can say Tera all you want, but needing a mon to Tera most of the time is a problem, being weak to Earthquake, Knock Off, Shadow Ball, etc. with only a few actual resistances. Garganacl is IMO a better investment for a Tera reliant wall, and it's in UU right now. Garganacl doesn't have a pivot move, but it clicks a move that for a lot of Pokemon immediately forces switches, and makes for insane chip damage.

Pecharunt has 88 Special Attack, I do not believe in literally any offensive set, and every gen it feels like it's easier and easier to have 2+ Toxic immunities on a team.

It has Toxic and can pivot sure, but for example the Sample Teams have (in order) this many switch ins to Toxic: 3, 2, 1, 3, 3, 3, 4, 3, 4

Ferrothorn has worse bulk but it also has an amazing typing that covers more. Leech Seed actually helps its entire team pivot more, Stealth Rocks (Pecharunt doesn't even get TSpikes), and a better ability. Ferrothorn is not in the game, but I'm saying it to show that you can do way more with way less if you just have a good defensive typing. And Pecharunt doesn't.

That’s not a bad idea. However, I haven’t been able to build teams that are any good with the “Tera captain” approach. There’s so much dangerous stuff running around that require defensive Tera just to not lose. Also, Electric / Flying with Volt Absorb is godly typing as it is. I will definitely test this though!

Tbh I'm not sure many people think Pecharunt is gonna be any good regardless, the rest of its stats are too mid to be pretty usable tbh and having common weaknesses as it does

If pincurchin didn't have 48 hp, and even as small a buff as to 60, it would be so much better. It has decent stats apart from hp and speed. Plus, it has recover, sucker punch, scald, spikes and toxic spikes. It has such a great movepool, but it is ruined by its hp stat.
I think pincurchin would still be bad even with 60 base hp, but I do agree that a buff like that would make it better than it is currently

Morkal's Technical Sets

Gallade

:gallade:

Gallade @ Expert Belt
Ability: Sharpness
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 152 Atk / 104 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Agility
- Sacred Sword
- Leaf Blade
- Psycho Cut

Mienshao @ Life Orb

I'm gonna put my chef hat on and cook some stuff for my favorite pokemon in a little bit. Morkal is unironically inspiring me to make sets. Teambuilding on the other hand, someone's gonna need to do that for me but I can certainly make sets

Tbh I'm not sure many people think Pecharunt is gonna be any good regardless, the rest of its stats are too mid to be pretty usable tbh and having common weaknesses as it does
THANK YOU. HOLY SHIT. People are hyping up pecharunt as the "next coming of stall" but good lord the only stat it has that isn't marginally better than fucking glalie is defense. I genuinely think it's gonna be super low tier with maybe like a tiny niche in every sub ubers tier it's legal in. It's not OU material and anyone who claims it is is coping harder than me when I build a team with hisuian zoroark

I think a lot of people forget how fat Pecharunt is. 88/160/88 is insanely fat and I wouldn’t call ghost poison a *bad* type. It also helps that parting shot pivoting just seems good. This thing looks like it will be a great sidegrade to Slowking Galar. You trade Future Sight for absurd bulk and Parting Shot. Sure, FuturePort is great, but part of what makes Glowking as good as it is is its ability to be an emergency check to a ton of stuff like Valiant, which Pecharunt does too. Even if Kingambit comes in, a no investment Pecharunt outspeeds a max investment adamant kingambit, so you can just parting shot out.

I see value with the peach, I think it’s a lot better than people think.

The thing is, I don’t think it even needs to Tera.

0 SpA Pecharunt Hex (130 BP) vs. 244 HP / 12 SpD Gliscor: 157-186 (44.6 - 52.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Poison Heal

This thing has better physical bulk than Toxapex coupled with the ability to function as a pivot. Let’s also not underestimate how good base 88 speed is in the tier for a defensive poke. Right off the bat, you outspeed Tusk, Ghold, Glimm, Rilla, Hamu, and Rbolt. Since you are physical Blissey, you’re free to run speed evs and outspeed those threats without losing out massively of your physical bulk.

I don’t think it will be a top threat, but it shows promise.

ok but the reason toxapex is so good as a wall is because of regenerator + being a pseudo pivot of its own. Pecharun is bulky yes, but physical blissey it is not.
